Passionate of Rock, Blues, Jazz and classical music since my not-so-quiet teenage years, I have been listening to music every single day for almost 50 years now. I did not fall into that musical pot just by pure chance : Muddy Waters, BB King, Jimi Hendrix guitars... Miles Davis, Chet Baker, Dizzy Gillepsie trumpets… Iggy Pop, Ella Fitzgerald voices… John Bonham, Art Blakey, Billy Cobham drums… Charlie Parker, Stan Getz, John Coltrane saxophones… Stéphane Grappelli, Yehudi Menuhin violins… Serge Gainsbourg, Jacques Brel, Bob Dylan songs… I instantly succumbed to all of them. They opened my ears and showed me the way. In this boiling pot where one could smell the Missisipi barbecues, the Detroit loud decibels, or the sexy Chicago Los Angeles and Huston Soul music, I went to feed my soul like a desert survivor who eventually found his oasis. Lost in an austere world, where egoism, obscurantism an violence rule like masters, many of us chose music as ultimate elixir, food for the soul and body. We meet at concerts, record shops, we chat on the web… Made of funk, swing, soul, adagio or allegro, music is now part of humanity inheritance. She’s about to get into this 21st century full of pride and joy. With much serenity too. No wonder why we sent as a peaceful message the good old “Johnny B Good” on a space ship around the universe. I often try to understand the reasons why I am doing what I am doing : working with cameras, lights, mixing boards… I feel linked to the direction just like a baby is linked by an umbilical cord. The process is “almost” as important as the final result. It’s been almost 25 years since I am paying homage to music. Not to mention times where filming a concert was more a priesthood than a way to earn a living, I will take as a starting point the TV show Megamix produced by Martin Meissonnier.
