Managing Endometriosis Endometriosis is a unique GYN condition that is hard to manage
medically. Analgesics and hormonal suppression are used to treat symptoms, but do nothing to improve fertility, treat adhesions, or resolve endometriomas.
A diagnostic laparoscopy can determine how far the endometriosis has spread. Once identified, CIGC surgeons use minimally invasive surgical options for treatment, with the fastest possible post-operative recovery.
Laparoscopic resection of endometriosis refers to the excision (removal) of endometriotic implants. This is a type of conservative management of endometriosis and its goal is to improve symptoms while preserving the uterus, tubes and ovaries as much as possible.
Hysterectomy with or without removal of the ovaries is definitive surgery for women who do not desire fertility or for women for whom conservative surgery has failed. Of all of the methods to treat endometriosis, a hysterectomy with removal of both ovaries results in the best long-term pain control.
Endometriosis is a painful and complicated condition, that is why getting diagnosed and treated early by a fellowship trained laparoscopic specialist is important to ensure a complete procedure with a full recovery.

Diagnostic Laparoscopy
If the patient has endometriosis, other diagnostic tools like CT, MRI or ultrasound may not be able to detect the condition, or the severity. During a diagnostic laparoscopy, a small thin camera is inserted into the abdomen and the entire pelvis can be inspected.
Diagnostic laparoscopy, when used by minimally invasive specialists, can help identify the type and scope of GYN conditions.
