    Fourth Sunday of Advent

    VOL. 3 DECEMBER 17-18, 2011 ISSUE 50

    Welcome to Good Shepherd Chapel

Scripture- I will fix a place for my people Israel; (2 Samuel 10)- I will give you rest from all your enemies. (2 Samuel 11)- For you have said, My kindness is established forever (Psalm 89:3)- To him who can strengthen you, according to my gospel and the proclamation of JesusChrist, (Romans 16:25)- May it be done to me according to your word. (Luke 1:38)

Reflection - Are you able to say without reservation, be it done to me according to your word? - How is it possible to act with so much faith?

When is this simplicity of spirit possible that recognizes of the gifts of Jesus and thecorrect path to follow?

Each of us has his own path to tread and it is more beautiful if it is offered by God. It is foolishness to wantanother one, and we incur pointless suffering if we insist on things that do not exist or on paths not made for us.

To accept the Kingdom of Heaven within us means to accept the vocation that God prepares for us throughthe reality in which we live. 1

Our Parish celebrated a Spanish Mass last Sunday, December 11, 2011 at4pm in honor of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Feast Day. The celebrationstarted with a video at 3:35pm that explained the miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe which led to more than nine million natives toconvert to Christianity. Father Joseph Lea celebrated the Mass in Spanishwith a local Deacon Rey Morales who delighted the 68 attendees with a

beautiful homily. St. Michaels Choirs performance harmonized andaccompanied the celebration with Spanish songs typical of this festivity. We would like to give our special thanks to Deacon Morales, the Choir (musicians and singers), ushers, Eucharistic ministers, lectors and altar

servers. Thank you also to Sherry Wodicka, Laura Pizzi, Maria Colon and Noemi Maya for setting/cleaning up. This was a successful 2011 Our Lady of Guadalupe Feast Day! THANK YOU!!!

The Beatitudes: Blessed are the Pure in Heart In the Sixth Beautitude Jesus Says that the Pure in Heart will See GodThe Beatitudes are a collection of promises recorded in the book of Matthew. They present seven differ-ent attitudes of the heart that come with a promise of blessing. Jesus spoke these promises in His Ser-mon on the Mount, to a multitude of followers who needed more than just physical healing and deliver-ance. Jesus was giving them an opportunity to seek an intimate relationship with God through a rightheart.

Each beatitude, which simply means supreme blessedness, begins with the phrase blessed are. These words im- ply that whoever participates in that right heart attitude will benefit from being in a perpetual state of receiving God'sfavor. It was this continual blessing that Jesus knew was going to fulfill the needs of His followers. The sixth beatitudeis for those who are pure in heart. Jesus said, Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

The heart represents the inner man. It is referred to as the seat of thought and emotion, the center of the character of the individual. God, through King Solomon, warned His people to guard their hearts. The New Living Translationstates: Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. (Proverbs 4:23) It is out of the heathat sin and obedience, rebellion and submission, hatred and love can all come.

God was instructing His people to watch what enters into the heart, because what comes out of it can either make or break one's destiny in Him. A heart that is seared by sin, or bent on rebellion, or even clouded with doubt, cannotopenly receive all that God has to offer. And a heart that is closed to Him will not only miss out on His blessing, butalso will not be able to fulfill the things that He wants to do through them.

Those who keep their hearts pure have the promise of seeing God, that is, the promise of truly knowing and under-standing who He is and what He wants to accomplish through them. To them,God will reveal Himself and make His presence known. They will be a vessel thatHe can use to draw others to Himself. They will benefit from seeing the hand of God move in the lives of those to whom they minister. They will see the sick healed, the lost saved, the broken restored. All of these are evidences of the

power of God, and those who endeavor to keep themselves in right standing withGod will be a witness to His presence at work in their lives. Written by AmyMiller. Retrieved from http://www.sharefaith.com
