based around options that work for your whanau. This
device will be “white gloved” ready to go with all
learning applications, insurance, and a protective case.
The opportunity for you to either purchase outright or
pay off over 1-3 years is enabling access to student
learning anywhere, anyhow. We have the 20/20 trust
set up which enables us to offer this amazing
opportunity for you to access.
Our focus continues to be LEARN, CREATE, SHARE.
You will see our goal is to continue to have blended
learning where our students are doing a range of
activities continuing with art, health and PE, drama, and
bookwork. These devices are merely another aspect of
our goal of learn, create, share.
If you have any queries or questions, we would love to
hear them, so come in for a chat with your child’s
teacher or myself. Watch this space for more updates.
KAPA HAKA
I am thrilled to be able to announce that we have finally
secured a tutor for kapa haka to support our students.
We welcome Wiremu Smith who was a previous
student. Wiremu will be working with our students and
we look forward to sharing our learning at Praise Giving
at the end of the year. This kapa haka group will be
voluntary for our students to opt into, so we hope that
your child will take this opportunity.
FAMILY MASS
This Sunday we celebrate with our school/parish Family
Mass this weekend. We celebrate as a school once a
term and ask that all of our whanau and community
come along to support your child in their faith journey
with us. As part of Family Mass we run the ministries of
music, readings, prayers altar service and morning tea.
We would love some helpers in the kitchen to serve tea
and coffee and wash the dishes afterwards. Please bring
along some food to share with our wonderful
parishioners. Come along and meet some new people
and introduce yourselves. Mass begins at 9.00am, and if
your child/ren have a role, please arrive at 8.45am.
Hope to see you all there.
Have a wonderful and safe weekend full of many
blessings.
Kathryn Carey (Principal)
Greetings, Kia Ora, Talofa, Bula Vinaka, Konnichi wa, Dobrodošli, Sawa dee, Failte
Mid way through term 3 and it is a chance for me to
thank those of you who have supported us as teachers.
Your kind words and encouragement are uplifting. We
hope that we can get some change to ensure that
education in New Zealand is valued to retain and
encourage the best teachers to support our kids!
CROSS COUNTRY
We had such fabulous fun at our annual PCS Cross
Country at the Cutler Farm. A huge thanks to the
Cutler family for preparing the course, setting up the
safety barriers and allowing us on their beautiful
property. The kids were promised lots of mud, and
they certainly got that! It was fantastic to celebrate our
students who have a gift of running. We were so
impressed with the students who participated and ran
with smiles and great sportsmanship. Our winners are
further in the newsletter and we congratulate them.
MANAIAKALANI
Our involvement in the Manaiakalani outreach
programme is continuing to gain momentum. The
learning by our staff is extremely exciting as they are
creating their own google sites, pages, contracts and
teaching our students some solid skills for their learning.
This term we are processing the paperwork to begin our
“roll out” ready for 2019. The paperwork will begin in
term 4 for the opportunity to purchase your own
devices for year 5 to 8 students. The community hui we
had last term showed an overwhelming consensus for
our students to have access to digital learning as 21st
Century learners across the school. To sustain this, the
opportunity to purchase your own learning device will
be available for our whanau.
The roll out will start with our year 5 to 8 students and
you can choose to purchase your own chrome book

White bread, baguette, Sourdough, pita, riwana, and many
more, Perhaps no food comes in as many varieties as bread.,
Because bread is so basic to our life, God was wise to nourish
us with divine life in the form of bread, the Eucharist.
Jesus foretold this marvel when he claimed, “I am the bread
of life….I am the living bread that came down from heaven;
whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that
I will give is my flesh for the life of the world” (John 6:48,
51). This was not just a figure of speech. Jesus meant the
words literally. At the Last Supper the night before he died,
he held bread in his hands and said to his friends, “This is my
body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me” (1
Corinthians 11:24). Ever since then Christians have been
celebrating the breaking of the bread. We come together to
share a meal and be fed with the bread and wine that is
Jesus. The Eucharist is a gift of Jesus' love through which we
remember his death and resurrection and share in them.
When Jesus called himself the bread of life, his listeners no
doubt thought of Moses. Through Moses God sent down
manna, bread from heaven that fed the chosen people for
40 years before they reached the promised land. Jesus
explained, “Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but
they died; this is the bread that comes down from heaven so
that one may eat it and not die” (John 6:49-51).
God prepared us for the mystery of the Eucharist in several
ways. Jesus was born in Bethlehem, a town whose name
means “House of Bread.” His mother laid him in a manger, a
feeding trough, a hint that someday he would be bread for
the world. All four Gospels tell the story of the miraculous
feeding of crowds, which foreshadows what happens at
Mass. Jesus fed thousands of people by having the disciples
distribute five barley loaves and two fish. After everyone had
enough to eat, there were still 12 baskets of leftovers (and in
some accounts seven). Even the time Jesus gave us the
Eucharist was a clue to its meaning—the time of Passover. At
this feast the Jewish people celebrate their salvation from
death in Egypt by a meal that includes unleavened bread and
wine.
When we partake of the Eucharist, Jesus feeds us with his
body and blood. We enter into communion with him and
with one another. Unlike other food, which becomes part of
us, Jesus in the sacred bread and wine makes us more like
him. Therefore we, too, are to be bread for the world.
The living bread sustains us and prepares us for that day
when we will come to the heavenly banquet. It is a pledge
of future glory. It is the means by which Christ fulfills his
promise, “I came so that they might have life and have it
m o r e a b u n d a n t l y ” ( J o h n 1 0 : 1 0 ) .
God Bless, Phil.

Ice Skating Tour We have an exciting opportunity to be involved in “The Ice Skating Tour” in Kaitaia!!! The session will be held on Fri-day 31st August 2018 and each class will take part in a supervised lesson for one hour. The lessons quoted from the tour page as follows: “Our lessons are developed to give kids from year 1-8 a unique and fun introduction to ice skating. We teach them the basics of balance, coordination and ice skating and always aim to have them all skating by the end of the session. We have the philosophy that kids learn best by falling and getting up themselves “ If you would like your child to take part it will cost $8 per child (please make payment to the office asap) This includes the lesson, and all equipment including a helmet and ice-skates during this time. We encourage your child to offer to help out at home or do extra chores towards the $8. There are 5 weeks to save. It will be fabulous fun!! The ice-skating schedule for each class will be: Lesson 1: 09:10am - 10:00am Kiwi (help with transport and supervision will be appreciated) Lesson 2: 10:00am - 10:50am Tui Lesson 3: 10:50am - 11:40pm Pukeko (help with transport and supervision will be appreciated) Lesson 4: 11:40am - 12:30pm Te Kahu Lesson 5: 12:30pm - 1:20pm Kakapo Lesson 6: 01:20pm - 2:10pm Kea The younger children would benefit with help tying skates and putting gear on, so if you are able to assist, please notify the teacher. All adults need covered in shoes for safety purposes. All children to wear mufti that day—long pants and socks are recommended. They are welcome to wear their own helmets and gloves if they prefer. Please notify the school if you do not want your child included. PCS Staff
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!!
To all of our wonderful Dad’s out there,
have a very special Father’s Day.
Every year we have nominations for our
Duffy Award and we are pleased to
announce that Abe Wells was the lucky
winner! Thanks Abe for supporting our
school.
Transition
It was fantastic to have our past students
Trent Buckingham and Shannon Edwards come
and meet with our year 7/8 students as part
of the transition programme to Kaitaia
College. They are fantastic leaders and were
encouraging and full of great advice for our
senior students. Looking forward to watching
them all continue to grow in their
achievements!
PLEASE NOTE!! Can all drivers enter and leave our carpark from Dominion Road, so that our walkers are safe down the hill on to Eden Terrace. We are aiming to keep our pedestrians safe.
Whanau, let us always remember to show whanaungatanga at Pompallier. Help us to promote our values of
atawhai (mercy), aroha (love), pono (truth), and tika (integrity). Encourage our children to use these in all of their
actions with others.
Together we can create a school community which is positive, helpful, caring, joyous and strong.
This calendar gives you an idea of what is coming up during the term. Put the dates somewhere important to remember them. Dates can change at times, so please check this calendar each newsletter. If there are last minute changes we will notify you by text, and add comments onto our school Facebook page. Make
sure you contact Helen in the office to ensure you are part of our “phone tree” and get the “Skool Loop” App for your phone with updates too!
A reminder, for safety of our children,
please drive slowly in the carpark. No child
is to leave the gate area unsupervised.
Please do not park in the yellow lines.
