Early Sixties... In the early sixties, there was a vibrant bunch of teenagers who roamed the nooks and corners of Paco Catholic School, then comprised of 2 buildings (one for boys and another one for girls) and two large quadrangles (again, one for boys and another one for girls). PE classes with girls wearing “bloomers” were held in these grounds, as well as school events, like graduations or school fests, where students danced the “itik-itik” and “maglalatik”. Separate facilities did not, however, prevent the teens from getting to know one another. On reflection, it seems to have heightened their curiosity about life and the world beyond classrooms. As they left the school portals on graduation day, these kids took with them unforgettable memories of their high school days. Separately pursuing their dreams and raising their own families, these young “once”, have now been reconnected and have formed PCS Batch ’62. For the past two years, members have been meeting in lively camaraderie to bring together classmates with whom they have shared values and experiences gained during their formative years at Paco Catholic School. They have welcomed classmates from abroad – like Ninit Lopez Wijangco, Myrna Ricasa Geronimo, Rebecca Viray Malasmas, Jimmy Tullo and Rene Hidalgo. Efforts are being intensified by the Golden Jubiliarians to contact all classmates to persuade them to attend the PCS Grand Centennial Homecoming on 15 December 2012. Recently, the batch approved Grant for Mentors, the class project for its Golden Jubilee, which will be rolled out early next year. The project is designed to benefit teachers who have served during their high school years (1958-1962) who are now aged, in poor health and needing assistance.

Winning is sweeter the second time around for the back to back champions of the 3rd Director's Cup Alumni Basketball League last October 16, 2011. The champions for Group A is Class 1991 and from Group B is Class 2003. Coming from the bottom four of the series with 2-3 record, Class ’91 believing to win it all took each step to victory. They fought hard during the semis versus Class ’94. Now at the championship game for the second time, Class ’91 had done it again over the competing team of Class ’92. The game was very intense from the start. The point guard, Allan Jose of Class ’91 was given two technical fouls for an automatic thrown out or ejection from the court as early as the second quarter. Another technical for the bench players during the last few minutes of the game. This made the team ’91 led by Arman Yango talk to the committee and cleared issues with the calls of the referees. The band and the drums were also stopped by the Officers-in-charge to lessen the pressure between the teams and to hear the whistles of the referees. Most players were exhausted that at some point, committee time outs were called due to most players were over fatigued and had cramps. Three (3) players from Class ’92 graduated during regulation. The heat was much felt when scores were tied at regular time and making it more exciting during the overtime period.

The officers and members of Paco Catholic School Class of 1990 headed by President Ian Suanino and Vice President Darlene Guasa recently held a free medical-dental mission, dubbed as “Good Deeds 2011“ at the elementary grounds of the school on October 23, Sunday. This project was held for the first time in the school premises in coordination with Father Luke and his organization, St. Luke Reach Out Foundation for the benefit of around 200 indigents. The mission (consists of free medical consulation and medicines and free tooth extraction) was spearheaded by doctors and dentist who are also alumni of the school namely Adolfo Asturiano, MD, Rommel Imbuido, MD, Aileen Rotor, MD, Merlin Ordinanza, DMD and Christina Rivera-Santiano, DMD. Also present were medical doctors Allan Angelo Raymundo, MD and Jason Balita, MD and volunteer nurses headed by Didith Javier Remono, RN, a Class of 1990 graduate. Free medicines were provided upon the effort of some graduates of PCS who are in pharmaceutical companies. Rotary Club of Manila provided free bread for the beneficiaries. This annual project of PCS Class of 1990 is meant not only to serve the less fortunate members of the

community but also to ignite the bayanihan spirit of the members of the class both here and abroad

in preparation for the hosting of the PCS Alumni Homecoming in 2015.

An exciting and rewarding program, starting December 13 through December 19, has been planned to entice classmates to attend the 2012 Grand Homecoming. Included in the program are: welcome cocktails and dinners, a night out in Manila, an out-of-town trip and the opportunity to share blessings in an outreach project. As life turns full circle, there are many opportunities for social interaction, service, community involvement and spiritual upliftment. We believe that these values have been inculcated in us by our dear Alma Mater, Paco Catholic School. We, in PCS Batch ’62, have thus committed to share our time, talents and blessings to honor our Alma Mater and to glorify God.

Resulting from a very successful fundraising “raffle tickets” project last February 2011, B82s provided a Scholarship Grant by sponsoring two (2) students at Paco Catholic School for SY June 2011–March 2012. Both scholars, Khariza Mae Sabater Flores (Senior high school) and Trisha Renee Leandicho (Junior high school) are children of graduates of Class 1982, Ms. Anna Lyza Sabater-Flores (1V-1) and Mr. Rene Leandicho (1V-8), respectively. Aside from this Scholarship Program, B82s gave Medical Assistance to two (2) of its members.

In a recently concluded Bowling Tournament, Class 1982 won another trophy as 2nd Runner up in Class B of PCSAAI’s 10th Bowling Friendship Games last 22 October 2011 that was held at Paeng’s Bowling & Billiards Room in Robinsons Place, Manila. Last May 2011, B82s has already won a trophy as 1st Runner up in Division 2 of PCSAAI’s Summer Bowling Games that took place at Paeng’s in

Makati City. Both tournaments were organized by the Paco Catholic School Alumni Association, Inc. and Class 1987, next year’s Silver Jubilarians and Host Class to the PCS Centennial Grand Alumni Homecoming. Kudos to the members of the B82s Bowling Team for their selfless participation: Noel Abano, Malou Candelaria, Beck Castillo, Paul del Rosario, Elmer Jose, Jun Macasaet, Raymond Manansala, Raymond Queddeng, Benjie Reyes, Sylvia Saludes-Reyes and Roman Roxas who was on a summer vacation!!! Another fundraising project will soon be announced in preparation for the Pearl anniversary of Class 1982 as well as giving additional Scholarship Programs, Medical

Assistance, and Bereavement Assistance to more of its members who are in need of help, as we continue to live in our hearts what our Alma Mater has taught us…“Noblesse Oblige… your nobility, your dignity is great, and great, therefore, is your responsibility.”

The program proper started with a Doxology led by Gen. Hernando SJ Lopez ‘59 followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Special guests from PCS, led by Dr. Loida Hilario (Grade School Principal) and Mrs. Dina Abariso (High School Principal) together with Mrs. Helen S. Orbino (HRMD Officer) as well as some Alumni Class Representatives and friends of PCSAAI were welcomed by Mr. Melvin S. Semera ’91, as the Immediate Past President of the PCS Alumni Association. Our beloved School Director, Msgr. Rolando R. Dela Cruz, shared his inspiring message to all those present and subsequently inducted the new officers and members of the Board of Trustees of the PCS Alumni Association. Messrs. Joselito M. Ladaban ’83 and Alex R. Capili ’80 delivered their Inaugural Address and Closing Remarks as the chairman and president respectively. Of course, this special gathering among Paconians won’t be complete without the singing of the PCS Alma Mater Hymn! Immediately after the program, all guests were treated to a sumptuous lunch as they were assisted by the program’s Master of Ceremonies, Maria Socorro S. Lacerna ’81 together with Maria Luisa F. Candelaria ’82. Congratulations and good luck to all the Officers and Members of the Board of Trustees of the Paco Catholic School Alumni Association, Inc., as we carry on the spirit of “NOBLESSE OBLIGE…your nobility, your dignity is great, and, great, therefore, is your responsibility!!!”
