What’s happening at Arc Gateway? MEMBERSHIPS & CONTRIBUTIONSJoshua kicks off ‘Pennies for Pearl Nelson” for its fourth year!

Joshua Wilhelm is holding his fourth annual “Pennies for Pearl Nelson” fundraiser! Joshua received therapies from Pearl Nelson Child Development Center when he was two years old. To date, Joshua has raised over $5,000 for the Pearl Nelson Center. Please donate your “change” to help Joshua support Pearl Nelson Center’s life changing work. Please contact us if you would like a collection jar for your business! Also, Joshua has once again used his creativity to make stationery with his artwork to raise additional funds. Please contact the Pearl Nelson Center at 434-7755 for details.

Aktion Club gets a visit from the Pensacola Blue Wahoos “Kazoo”! *Starting June 11, Aktion Club will meet at Pollak Training Center*

The Arc Gateway loses two great friendsGreg Hobbs lived in one of the first Group Homes of The Arc Gateway on Forsythe Drive. He was a dedicated worker at Pollak Industries for over 20 years. Greg was a great performer and actor as he loved to play ‘air’ guitar, and even performed in several Red Wagon Revue shows.Kim Weston worked at the plant nursery for several years, and was one of the fastest ‘pluggers’ the nursery has ever seen. She had the natural ability to make people laugh. Kim never met a stranger and everyone became an instant friend.

You will be missed dear friends!

PALS Students “Get to Work” with Summer Internships and Career ExplorationIn May, PALS students started their first of three summer internships on campus at Pensacola State College. For Micah, he is practicing his graphic art skills at the PSC Foundation. For Josh, he’s trying out two career areas, culinary arts and public safety. By the end of their summer term, PALS students will be able to better plan their future career and focus their studies in those areas this fall. In addition to the internships, PALS students gain experience in a variety of job opportunities each week during their community career exploration. PALS students were “flying high” as each individual got the chance to personally fly an aircraft in simulators at the National Flight Academy. After their flights, students received tours of the amazing facilities, enjoyed an IMAX movie, and learned about our rich history and job opportunities at the Naval Aviation Museum. A special thanks to Chip Yarborough for leading the way through this special day!
