Baptism Baptisms are celebrated on various Sundays throughout the year at 1:15 p.m. You are encouraged to register for the baptism BEFORE YOUR CHILD IS BORN, so that it is easier to attend the required Baptism Preparation Class. Please call the Center and we will be happy to set up an appointment. Many parents also use this opportunity to register in the Parish as a new parishioner. Information about Godparents is available on the website.
Marriage We are happy to arrange for your wedding. First, we have the marriage interview and then we can set the date for the wedding. More information is available on the website. Please call the Center for an appointment and we will be happy to help you!
Reconciliation Confessions are heard in our Church Reconciliation Room (in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel) on Saturdays from 4:00 until 4:45 p.m. You are also welcome to call the Center and make an appointment to celebrate the Sacrament.
Anointing of the Sick We encourage all those eligible for this Sacrament to be anointed after the Noon Mass on the first Sunday of the month or by calling the Center. Those eligible are those who are about to undergo an operation; are suffering from serious illness and the condition has worsened; or are enduring the weakening effects of advancing age and it has been one year since they were last anointed.

Ascension Thursday

The Ascension of Christ, which traditionally falls on a Thursday, may be celebrated on a Sunday in certain parts of the world. The Ascension originated as a Thursday celebration because of the story of the event from the opening of the Acts of the Apostles. There, Luke says that Jesus rose from the dead, appeared to believers for 40 days and then ascended to the heavens. Even though the accounts of the ascension in the Gospels suggest it took place after a shorter period of time, the liturgy of the church has honored the chronology from Acts by celebrating the Ascension on Thursday of the sixth week of Easter. The Solemnity of the Ascension is one of 10 days that may be a holy day of obligation. Not all countries have the same holy days. In those countries where the Ascension is not a holy day, the solemnity is transferred to the following Sunday. The United States is so large and its needs so varied that Rome has granted it permission to decide by region on the date of this one solemnity. It is possible within the United States for Ascension to be on a Thursday in one state and on a Sunday in another. Travelers are expected to honor the custom of the place where they are that week. Those celebrating Ascension on Sunday will miss the Mass texts of the Seventh Sunday of Easter, filled with anticipation for the Spirit of Pentecost. The second reading and the Gospel of the Seventh Sunday of Easter may replace those usually heard on the Sixth. Those attending weekday Masses may notice that the responsorial psalm on Friday and Saturday of the Sixth Week of Easter is a seasonal psalm for the Ascension, even if their community will not celebrate the solemnity until Sunday.

The Sisters of Life were thrilled when we delivered 60 gift bags to them for the Spiritual Motherhood Luncheon they host each year for their post-abortive women. Thank you so very much, Claire Spencer and the Catholic Daughters, especially Barbara and Angela for your donations, time and effort in helping us with this project. We also greatly appreciate those other parishioners in our own parish, as well as Church of St. Patrick in Huntington and Church of St. Matthew in Dix Hills who very generously provided Metro cards and crocheted items for some of the women. Without everyone’s help, we as the Respect Life Committee would not be able to help the Sisters. Sister Veronica feels that the increased number of women reaching out for hope and healing is due to the passage of the N.Y. Reproductive Health Act. In her words, “God is calling His children.”
The Sisters are in need of Prayer Shawls for the women. If you crochet or knit and would like to help in this endeavor, please contact Kathy or Bob.

Through websites, social networks, television, radio, and print, the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) helps the Church spread the Gospel message through the media locally and nationally. Half of all donations to the CCC collected in our diocese stays in our diocese to support your local communications needs, such as radio and television programming and diocesan publications. The CCC collection provides seed funding and an updated mobile-friendly design for the For Your Marriage website. CCC also funds email delivery of the daily scripture readings. CCC funds facilitate live streaming of events such as the USCCB General Assemblies, V Encuentro. and Pope Francis' 2015 Apostolic Visit to the United States. The CCC provides ongoing support for www.usccb.org. USCCB video productions including reflections on the daily readings, and content development for many of the USCCB's media platforms. Catholic Communication Campaign funds have also made possible media campaigns supporting marriage, family communications, service to others, and \ reconciliation that reached millions on radio and television. Other projects have included the acclaimed public television documentaries Picturing Mary and The Face: Jesus in Art.. . CCC funds also support communications projects in developing areas of the world where the Church is growing but lacking in resources. The CCC supports the Cardinal Foley Scholarship program which provides funds for training Catholic communicators from those areas of the world so that they have the tools necessary to spread the Gospel message in the 21st century. The Catholic Communication Campaign helps connect people at home and abroad with Christ. Please be generous when asked to give.

First Reading: One of the most pressing issues
for the earliest Christian community (and, indeed,
the subject of the first church “council” as Acts
of the Apostles tells the story), pertained to
Gentile Christians. Jesus, His disciples and
Apostles and the first members of the Christian
community were all Jewish. Now the new community
has to decide: must Gentiles (who come to have
faith in Jesus) also become Jews (that is, be
circumcised according to the law of Moses?) We
hear today the decision of the Apostles and elders
of the community: what is asked of Gentile
believers is observance of dietary laws, avoidance of
idolatry and prohibition of marriage within certain
degrees of kinship, but not circumcision.
Responsorial Psalm 67: This joyful hymn of praise
acclaims God’s salvation for all the nations
(Gentiles) in each stanza and, indeed, in almost
every line.
Second Reading: The universal theme is likewise
found in the description of the glorious, heavenly
Jerusalem, whose gates, marked with the names
of the ancestors of Israel, open in every direction,
toward all peoples. The walls of the city are
inscribed with the names of the Apostles. Jesus,
who brought salvation to all, is the fulfillment of
the promises first made to Israel. The city gleamed
with the glory of God, who was its light and the
Lamb, who was its lamp.
Gospel: The strong connection, almost identifica-
tion, between loving Jesus and keeping His word is
stressed. Jesus and his Father come to us in, and
through, this loving obedience and dwell within us.
Jesus tells his disciples here, the night before he
dies, that the Father will send the Holy Spirit, an
Advocate on their behalf, just as he had sent
Jesus. The Holy Spirit will teach them and help
them to remember all that Jesus told them.
Jesus’ farewell gift to them is deep and abiding
peace. His return to the Father should be a source
of great joy. He has accomplished the mission for
which he was sent. They will not be left alone.

MEMORIAL FOR UNBORN BABIES
In partnership with St. James Church in Setauket,
St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center will hold the
3rd Annual Memorial and Burial Service for babies who
have died before birth. The prayer service will be held
in St. James Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 15
followed by the burial in St. James Parish Cemetery.
This service is open to anyone in the community who
has suffered the loss of a baby. There is no
restriction on the timeframe of the loss. For further
