SAINT AUGUSTINE CATHEDRAL PARISH SAFETY PROTOCOLS

1. Communications with Parishioners Recalling that communication and engaging in reasonable practices that minimize health risks are the keys to building trust, we are going to use the means at our disposal, including the parish website, the parish Facebook page, the parish electronic bulletin and other means of communication to share with our parishioners the following:• Certification by the rector that the Church

is ready to open• Common Good: Parishioners will be

informed that the Diocese of Tucson is following the recommendations of the Center for Disease Control and others with expertise in public health as communicated through public sources on the national and local levels.

• Protection of the Vulnerable: Our goal of protecting all people, but most especially those from the populations made more vulnerable due to age or secondary health issues, must, and will remain firm.

• Fluidity of Approach: We are all aware that circumstances evolve quickly - we will update the community immediately if there are any changes to the safety protocol.

• The Sunday Mass Obligation is suspended indefinitely for all persons living in or visiting in the Tucson Diocese.

• Those in the vulnerable classifications (age 65+ or with a chronic health condition) are strongly urged to remain at home and not come onto parish property.

• Note clearly that there is an inherent risk, regardless of age or health, in attending any public event. This includes religious services. While we are working to reduce the risk, there are no risk-free situations. A parishioner’s presence at a public event constitutes his or her understanding and acceptance of this essential level of risk.

• Those who are feeling ill in any way are urged, in the strongest sense, to remain at home and not come onto parish property.

• Please respect any sign posted at the Church entrance including the church is full and that you need to return for a later-scheduled Mass.

• Please make us of a mask. The use of a mask is a sign of our desire to do our part in helping to prevent others from potential contagion.

• To allow for smaller congregations and the proper cleaning of the church building used for Mass, Sunday (weekend) Masses may be celebrated as early as the preceding Friday afternoon and as late as the following Monday afternoon.

• The church will be entirely closed on Tuesday through Thursday to allow any contagion left behind on a surface to die. However, we may open in case we have to hold a funeral Mass on one of these days.

• There will be no public celebration fo quinceaneras while we remain in Phase One.

2. Safety Protocols at Saint Augustine Cathedral Property• Social Distancing: We have taped off every

other pew for spacing the congregation. We have also designated areas where attendees may sit, keeping a minimum of 6 feet apart.

• Ushers will be trained on proper protocol.• We will provide Ushers masks, gloves

and hand sanitizer at each Mass.• Ushers will escort attendees to available

seating areas.• Maximum attendance will be 208. Pews

will be spaced, every other pew will be taped off. Families may sit together at certain pews specifically marked by tape.
