People Build a Tower (Genesis 11:1-9)

God saved Noah and his family from the great flood. God blessed them. Many many years later they increased in number. At that time, they spoke same language.

They were proud of themselves. They thought they could do anything without God. They disobeyed God and didn’t want to scatter all over the world.

They decided to make a tower to reach to the sky and to make a great city. It was to make a name for themselves, not praising God.

They made bricks and hardened them with fire. The tower got taller and taller and the city got bigger. People were very proud of themselves.

God saw this and it made Him angry. God thought people did so because they were united and they all spoke the same language.

To stop them from building the tower and the city, God confused all the people with different languages. People spoke different languages.

The tower is called Babel (meaning confusion) because God confused the people with different languages.

People built the tower to praise themselves. They didn’t depend on God anymore.

God doesn’t like when we act like this. We should always depend on God and His power.

They couldn’t understand each other and so couldn’t work together anymore. Finally, they stopped building the tower and the city.

They also left the city. The people who spoke the same language gathered together and spread out over the earth as God ordered.

Tower of Babel

2. Keep placing windows and clouds all along the sides.

Supplies: from the craft packet, paper cone, foam stickers

1: Curl the paper in a cone shape. Use the double-sided tape to secure. Place the foam clouds on top of the cone. Place windows along the sides.

The tower of Babel tells us the story of disobedient and prideful people. We can do many things on our own. But we can't do anything without the help of God. We should always be thankful to God and depend on Him. Put the tower of Babel somewhere in your house and think about the lesson you learned today.
