Ceramic, porcelain, granite, marble, mosaics and other composite materials are widely used as floor and wall coverings, both internally and externally, in a multitude of different places and applications. Tiles are used extensively as a decorative finish in hotels and resorts, airports and other facilities of public transport, schools and universities, hospitals and medical clinics, shopping malls, high rise condominium, private residences and swimming pools. In many instances specifiers require performance driven construction materials to meet their design criteria.

When it comes to redecorating an existing structure, architects, interior designers and contractors alike, require products with specific performance characteristics. For example, when upgrading or redecorating a hotel room, a rapid setting tile adhesive and grout is often required in order to allow the contractor to return the room to the hotelier sooner for occupation.

Forming part of the extensive range of construction finishing materials offered by Terraco is an exciting range of high performance Tiling Adhesives and Grouts, manufactured in compliance with European Standards EN 12004 / EN 12002 (adhesives) and EN 13888 (grouts).

These architecturally specified performance products are available under the Terrafix, Terrapaste, and Terragrout brands. Terraco offers a complete range of cementitious adhesives, acrylic paste adhesives, additives, primers and coloured grouts for both wide and narrow joints.

Terraco’s Technical Centre situated in Ireland, has been at the forefront of developing this extensive range of eco-friendly tile adhesivesand grouts. They have been formulated with specific performance characteristics and our fragile environment in mind.

Classification of Performance Tiling Adhesives & GroutsTerraco is pleased to offer a comprehensive range of tiling products for most installations, on any scale, which comply to European Standards EN 12004 / EN 12002, the international norm for tiling adhesives, and EN 13888, the international norm for tile grouts. These EN standards set the parameters by which a tiling product is classified when it complies with certain specific performance criteria.

When a product complies, it is then classified depending upon the composition of the material, by being given a specific symbol. The product is then either cementitious(C) or acrylic based(A), and depending upon the quantity of polymer used in the formulation, of a normal grade(1) or of an improved grade(2). Furthermore, along with other additives for giving the product specific performance characteristics, such as fast setting(F), non-slump(T), extended open time(E), good flexibility(S1) or improved flexibility(S2), a symbol is used to donate each performance characteristic.

Architectural Specification

Prepare by removing all loose and friable matter. Ensure that surface is dry, sound and clean. Remove all traces of mould, oil and curing compounds.

When necessary, depending upon the substrate onto which the tile adhesive is to be applied, roller apply one coat of suitable primer as specified by the manufacturer, and allow to cure. Using Terraco Terrafix... (Specifier to select product that meets EN classification required), according to manufacturer’s application instructions, fix the specified tile to the substrate.

Performance Tile Adhesive - TERRAPASTE (Acrylic Ready Mix Range)A range of easy to apply high performance modified acrylic adhesives for bonding various types of tiles to walls, for interior and exterior use. Terrapaste is not suitable for prolonged saturation areas such as floors, swimming pools, and basins.

Performance Tile Grout - TERRAGROUT (Cementitious Grout)A range of easy to apply high performance polymer modified cementitious grouts for filling thin joints (5 mm and less) and wide joints (5 mm to 20 mm) in exterior and interior floor and wall tiles. The Terragrout range does not curl up during application and gives a water- and weather-resistant joint with no shrinkage cracks. All colours are light and lime fast.

Once tile adhesive has set, prepare by removing all loose and friable matter in the joints, ensure that all tiles are adhering soundly to the substrate.

Using Terraco Terragrout... (Specifier to select product that meets EN classification required) , according to manufacturer’s application instructions, apply to the tile joint.
