Everyone would agree we were unfortunate not to get

something from last weeks game against Illogan, showing

much improved form, it took a controversial goal right on full

time to rob us of any rewards our play deserved.

Today’s game against St. Day will be no easier, they are on a

fine run with former striker Shane Richards back amongst the

goals.

Talking of former players, ex Perran player of the year Scott

Kinge who made an appearance last week, sadly dislocated his

shoulder that needed prolonged hospital treatment; we wish him

all the best and hope to see him again soon.

As the light evenings are upon us I wish to remind you of the

evening games, which are on a Tuesday, the first being away to

Falmouth Athletic next week, kick off 6.15pm.

Hope to see you there.

Name: St Day Founded: 1949 Ground: Vogue Park Colours: Yellow and Black Illogan RBL 0, St Day 2

THIRD placed Illogan were left stunned after two late goals gave St Day their first league win at Oxland Parc in a competitive local derby. Just as the game looked destined to end 0-0, up popped Shane Richards who scored twice in the final five minutes to give the away side a well earned victory. It was St Day's fourth straight win in all competitions, a run which manager Matt Harris hopes can continue. He said: "It was a great team performance and I just think we wanted it more. That was the difference. "They're a good side so it was a brilliant win for us and hopefully we can carry on our good form." The result put a serious dent in Illogan's title aspirations, but manager Neil Jeffree said after the match his team are not giving up hope yet. He added: "Credit to St Day, they took their chances and we didn't. We've got to put it behind us and keep going." It was a closely fought first half which saw St Day control the majority of possession but the best chances fall to the home side. Danny Williams volleyed over after good work from Lewis Ellis, before the Illogan striker was played in again, this time forcing a good save from keeper Ryan Gendall. Then on the stroke of half-time, Sam Emery found space in the area after a corner but could only guide his header over the bar. After mainly being reduced to long range efforts during the first half, the visitors found a creative spark in the second, and were much better for it. Nathan Taylor was unlucky to see his effort from just inside the area fly over the bar before Richards had a great chance to put the visitors 1-0 up when he was put through one on one, but couldn't beat the keeper. A rare Illogan chance fell to Dominic Pullen, who should have done better with a free-header from a corner. The away side continued to threat, and after good build up play, Joe Crossman had a great chance with 15 minutes remaining, but his shot was straight at Barrie-John Wyatt in the Illogan goal. Jeffree made two changes but could not find a way to stop St Day, who were applying more pressure in the closing stages. And their efforts were finally rewarded with five minutes remaining. Illogan were adamant Danny Ford committed a foul in the build up to the goal, but referee Jon Barnicoat waved play on and Richards finished superbly, finding the bottom corner from the edge of the area. It was no more than the visitors deserved, and the victory was sealed in the last minute of normal time.Ford was played in behind and unselfishly squared the ball to his strike partner, who tapped in to the empty net, sparking jubilant scenes from the players, coaching staff and travelling supporters. (West Briton)

Perranwell will have to keep a close eye on former striker Shane Richards in what promises to be a hard fought game from two teams at the wrong end of the Jolly’s Combination League table.
