Message from the Rector – Saints Sports Festival 2017

On behalf of our College of seven schools, I welcome the St Stithians community and all our guests to a remarkable and memorable festival of sport. We welcome players, coaches, managers, parents and supporters from schools across southern Africa.

We say a special welcome to our alumni and past parents who have come back to meet up again and to enjoy the Festival.

The Saints Sports Festival is a major highlight in our calendar and an opportunity for the St Stithians community to live out our intent to ‘inspire excellence’ and to ‘make a world of difference’.

This year we have re-branded our event as the Saints Sports Festival, enabling us to include in one concept the Prep Sports Festival which takes place from 6-8 April and the College Festival which takes place over the Easter weekend (13-17 April). Through these two events, we offer a sporting bonanza!

The Prep Sports Festival, initiated in 2015, has grown and developed and will have an added vibe this year. The new Girls’ Sports Pavilion at the courts brings added value, and the hosting of the rugby on the Prep fields will further enhance the festival atmosphere.

Over the Easter weekend we are proud to host the oldest and largest schools sports festival in the country, an event which began in 1984 and involves rugby, hockey, netball, tennis, basketball, squash, and cross country. We are excited to have added soccer this year, planting the seed for future growth.

Alongside the sporting action, the Saints Sports Festival is a community event in our College of welcome and wonder, with evening entertainment, warm hospitality, festival vendors and a controlled play area for young children. A time to be enjoyed by all.

St Stithians College is a Methodist school and amidst the festival of sport we are mindful of the centrality of Easter for Christians commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Our Easter Sunday Service in the Chapel at 09:00 is a Saints Family Service and we invite our Festival visitors and guests to join us.

The Saints Sports Festival can only happen through many, many people and organisations pulling together in one team. On behalf of the College, I say a warm thank you to our staff and parent organisers and volunteers, to our sponsors and particularly our major sponsor Standard Bank, and to our suppliers and service providers who combine to create this spectacle.

● To make sure that this year’s Festival is safe for everyone, it will be a ‘cashless’ event with the help of our sponsor, Standard Bank.

● If you don’t have a contactless ‘Tap & Go’ card (from any bank), Standard Bank will issue prepaid contactless chip and PIN MasterCard branded cards at the Festival every day.

● When you buy something with your Standard Bank prepaid card, you will get a receipt, showing the remaining balance on the card. You can use the remaining balance on your Standard Bank prepaid card to pay for purchases at any merchant that accepts MasterCard, but you cannot withdraw cash.

● You can load up to R1 500 at a time, with a limit of R3 000 for every 30-day period. The maximum transaction value is R200.

Note: All credit and debit cards will be accepted for payment at the FestivalImportant to knowThe Standard Bank pre-paid card issued at the festival will not have your name on the card, but it is still subject to regulatory limits and conditions. Please remember that:

● you cannot use your card to draw cash from an ATM ● when a cashier puts your Standard Bank prepaid card into a payment terminal to do a chip transaction, you must enter the correct PIN (the PIN you got or changed at the Festival)

● the maximum transaction value is R200 ● the maximum amount you can load at a time is R1 500, and ● the maximum balance you can have on your card for every 30-day period is R3 000
