HOME AND CONTENTS SECTION

The Home and Contents Section of the PDS is divided

into the following two sections:

Section 1 - Home and Contents

Section 2 - Legal Liability

Page 8: Personal PDS Module - findit.eiua.com.au

SECTION 1 - HOME AND CONTENTS

When you are insured

The Policy Schedule indicates whether home and contents are insured and the sums insured.

The total contents sum insured consists of a sum insured for:

1. unspecified contents; and

2. specified contents.

There are two types of cover available under Home and Contents subject to limits, conditions and exclusions, these are:

Insured Events

If the insured has selected Insured events cover:We will indemnify the insured up to the limit shown in the Policy Schedule or any applicable sub-limits in respect of physical loss of or damage to the home, contents, or both, directly caused by any of the Insured events at the site during the period of insurance.

Accidental Damage

If the insured has selected accidental damage cover:The insured is insured against accidental loss or damage to the home, contents, or both at the site during the period of insurance. This includes cover for any of the Insured events.

Note: Building and Contents must have the same cover type. For example, they cannot select Accidental Damage cover for Contents and Insured Events for Home.

The cover must be either Insured Events or Accidental Damage on both Home and Contents.

Page 9: Personal PDS Module - findit.eiua.com.au

EXCESS

We will deduct the excess shown in the Policy or in the current Policy Schedule from the amount of the claim.

Where a sublimit is applicable, the excess will be applied to the claim prior to applying the sublimit.

For example: if the insured has selected accidental damage cover with a $100 excess, and they claim for an unspecified ring worth $6,000 that was stolen from their home, we would:

1. apply the excess ($100) to the claim amount ($6,000) reducing the claim amount to $5,900;

2. apply the jewellery sublimit of $5,000 to the claim because the ring was not specified; and

3. pay the insured the lesser of the sublimit ($5,000) or the claim amount minus the excess ($5,900). So in this example, we would pay the insured $5,000.

Page 10: Personal PDS Module - findit.eiua.com.au

EXCESS

Earthquake or tsunami

The insured must pay the first $250, or the excess amount shown in the Policy Schedule, whichever is greater, in relation to claims for damage caused by earthquake or tsunami. All loss, destruction or damage occurring within a period of 7 days of the earthquake or tsunami is regarded as the one event.

When you will not have to pay an excess

The insured will not have to pay an excess if we agree to pay a claim for the total loss of the home, contents or both.

Page 11: Personal PDS Module - findit.eiua.com.au

INSURED EVENTS QUESTION?

Theft or attempted Theft

Lightning or Thunderbolt

Malicious acts

Damage caused by fire

Spoilage of food caused by a refrigerator breakdown

Breakage of glass or ceramic cook-tops - Stove tops that contain in-built heating

Page 12: Personal PDS Module - findit.eiua.com.au

BASIS OF SETTLEMENT

If we agree to pay a claim under the Policy, at our option we will settle claims as shown below:

Basis of Settlement – Home

(a) repair your home; or

(b) replace your home to a condition substantially thesame as, but not better than, when new; or

(c) pay the reasonable cost of its repair or replacement to a condition substantially the same as when new; or

(d) pay up to the sum insured shown in your PolicySchedule.

Basis of Settlement – Contents

(a) repair the damaged items; or

(b) replace the items with items substantially the same as, but not better than when new; or

Page 13: Personal PDS Module - findit.eiua.com.au

BASIS OF SETTLEMENT -

HOME

If part of the insured's Home is damaged and we agree to pay the claim, then as outlined in the Policy, we will pay only for the part or parts of the insured's home that actually sustained damage. We do not pay to replace any undamaged materials.

However:

Matching materials

If part of your home is damaged or destroyed by an Insured Event and we agree to pay your claim, or one of our suppliers has caused damage during exploratory work to locate the source of escaped water or other liquid, we’ll match existing materials if they’re commercially available in Australia when we repair, replace or rebuild the damaged property.

If not, we’ll use the nearest equivalent materials that we can source locally.

In this case, if the damage is inside your home, we will also pay up to $1,000 to replace undamaged parts of the same room, hallway or stairwell (to the nearest doorway, archway, or other opening) so that it matches or complements the materials we’ve used. We’ll consider a combined lounge/dining room as one room if the opening between them is more than 82cm wide (this is a common width of a doorway). If you’re not satisfied with the nearest equivalent materials we source, we will pay you what it would have cost to repair, replace or rebuild with these materials.

Page 14: Personal PDS Module - findit.eiua.com.au

SPECIAL BENEFIT - HOME

Further to the basis of settlement, there is also a special benefit calledhome sum insured safeguard.

It is vital that you familiarise yourself with all the criteria around when the Special benefit applies – Please refer to the PDS for this

Home sum insured safeguard

If we agree that the cost to repair or replace your home is greater than your home sum insured, then we will pay up to 30% more than your home sum insured to:

1. repair your home; or

2. replace your home to a condition substantially the same as, but not better than when new; or

3. pay the reasonable cost of its repair or replacement to a condition substantially the same as when new.

This special benefit only relates to your home. It does not apply to any other insured property, Policy section, “additional benefit” or other Policy feature.

BASIS OF SETTLEMENT -

CONTENTS

There are a number of sections under the Basis of Settlement - Content section, below is one example, however ensure you refer to the PDS to review all sections.

How the amount we’ll pay is determined if the item can’t be replaced

If we can’t repair the item, or it can’t be replaced because of its antiquity or rarity, we’ll pay the lesser of:

the standard policy limit or, if it’s a Specified Contents item, the specified limit noted on your Policy Schedule; and

the fair market value based on enquiries made to independent and appropriately experienced or qualified professionals.

If your contents sum insured is inadequate, we will only pay up to the sum insured or any applicable standard

policy limits.
