Why was this created?

In 1974 Philadelphia Eagles player Fred Hillsdaughter was diagnosed with Leukemia.

During Hills time at the hospital he met manyfamilies who had to commute to see their childrenin the hospital because they could not afford hotelrooms.

Hill rallied his team mates, coaches and generalmanager Jim Murray to raise funds for theChildrens Hospital of Philadelphia.

- With the teams funds and support Dr. Audrey

How Did McDonalds BecomeInvolved? While raising funds General Manger of the

Philadelphia Eagles Jim Murray enlistedMcDonalds advertising agency to help with the

campaign.

They created a St. Patrick's Day green milkshakethat all proceeds went to buying the first houselater called the Ronald McDonald House after thefounders love for children and donations.

Today Mc Donalds Franchise Owners and

operators help support and fund the RMHC.

What They Do? Provide a home away from home for

families who have children staying for anextended time in the hospital (1 month- asmuch time as needed) that is an uncommutable distance from their home.

They provide food, shelter ( PrivateRooms) and support for the children and

families. Including support groups for families and siblings Education programs

The charity believes strongly that childrenwill heal better with their family at theirside.

How Much Does This Cost?

The houses are ran mostlyby donations .

- However families areasked to donate $25 a day if

able if not the stay will comeat no cost.

Quick Facts

First house was opened in 1974

Now over 300 houses are operatingglobally.

They have expanded past housesto now have a care mobile that

travels world wide to help childrenin need.

To date RMHC has helped over 3.7

million children.

Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte In March 2011 the Ronald McDonald House of

Charlotte is scheduled to open and running onMorehead Street. across from the CMC LevinesChildrens Hospital and close toPresbyterian'sHembysChildrens Hospital.

- The decision to put a house there was becauseof the new Levines Children Hospital opening up

$11.695 million is needed
