1 Purpose of this Course
This course is specially designed for those persons already in or planning to embark on a career in pest control. This is a distance tuition course (correspondence) presented and facilitated by the Pest Control Industries Training Academy (PCITA)
2 The Pest Control Industries Training Academy (PCITA) 2.1 The formation of the Pest Control Industries Training Academy was formed by the Pest Control Industry as a result
of the lack of proper skilled training in the Pest Control Industry; the need of such training and apprenticeship having been brought prominently to the fore by section 12 of the Manpower Training Act, 1981 (Act no 56 of 1981).
2.2 The Pest Control Industry has made this training and apprenticeship available to enable Pest Control Operators to
reach and achieve Artisan Status. 2.3 The Registrar of Manpower Training (Department of Labour) has accredited the PCITA in terms of
section 12 B of the Manpower Training Act. 3.1 The student has to do a theory examination as well as a practical assessment for each module. The module cost
includes a theory exam and practical assessment. The Pest Control Industries Training Academy (PCITA) will inform enrolled students when and where the theory
and practical assessments for all Modules will be held. Once you have done all the theory exams on all 10 required modules, the student must enrol for the practical assessment and send their workbooks to PCITA offices.
3.2 The PCITA will issue a Statement of Results to every student that has successfully qualified theoretically as well as
practically in a certain field of pest control.
3.3 The student will then be able to apply for permanent registration as a Pest Control Operator with the Registrar of Act 36 of 1947. He/she will then receive a "P" registration number from the Department of Agriculture.
3.4 His/her permanent ("P") registration with Act 36 of 1947 will be subject to renewal on a three yearly basis.
4
3.5 Thereafter, a student can enrol for any other module of Phase Two if he wants to. A Statement of Results will then
be issued with only the new module/s on it. If a student has a P-registration certificate, he/she must fax a copy to PCITA office.
4 Admission requirements
Standard 10 (Grade 12) or an equivalent qualification (RPL) is required. Contact the Pest Control Industries Training Academy (PCITA) for approval and admission. The student must be a minimum of 18 years old to be able to enrol for this course
5 Duration Each student has 3 years to complete the course but it is preferable that the modules of Phase One are to be completed in one year and those of Phase Two in a second year.
