Brinjal – Fact
Brinjal is one of the important vegetables in India and India is the 2nd
largest producer of it after China.
Brinjal is prone to attack by many pests and by far the most damaging is Fruit & Shoot Borer
Brinjal Fruit & Shoot Borer causes significant crop lose upto 50% to 60%.
F & S Borer causes damage in two ways.
• It infests young shoot reducing the potential yield
• It bores into fruits making it unmarketable
To control F & S borer farmers use to spray lot of insecticides sometime twice a week
Farmers spray 15 to 25 rounds of insecticide in Brinjal for F & S Borer control
Brinjal F & S borer able to built fast resistance to any insecticide if used uninterrupted.
Alanto 123 strategy
1st visit – Spraying of Alanto in BCS Plot vs Farmer’s practice
Selection of same no of plants from both the plots
Take out of damaged shoot & fruit from both plots
Spray of Alanto in BCS plot against farmer’s practice at his plot.
2nd visit – 5 to 7 days after 1st spray
Take a count of damaged shoot and fruit from both the plots
Spray 2nd round of Alanto in BCS plot, Farmer take up his own spray
3rd visit – arrange a field day– after 2nd spray on next harvesting day
Take a count of damaged shoot from both plots
Harvest the fruits from both plots and separate good and damaged fruits
To show the comparison to all the farmers in the field
