Peter

Peter 2Matthew 3:1-6 (Read)In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea 2and saying, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near. 5People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region of the Jordan. 6Confessing their sins, they were baptised by him in the River Jordan.Question: Who was there? Crowds! But who?

Peter 3Matthew 3:13-17 (Read)13Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptised by John. 16As soon as Jesus was baptised, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17And a voice from heaven said, This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.Question: Who witnessed this?

Peter 4Acts 1:16-22 (Read)Judas committed suicide Peter said another needed to take his place of leadership (v 20)120 in the room but only two fulfilled the criteria. What were the criteria?21 Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us, 22beginning from Johns baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection.Question: So was Peter and the 11 there?Peter 540+ days after John baptised JesusJohn 1:19-28 (read)V 28: Bethany on the other side of the Jordan (from Jericho)KJV has Bethabara identified by some as Makht-Ababarah a place near Jericho, but texts have Bethania. However, this took place at the bottom of the Jordan, near Jericho

Peter 640+ days later: John 1:28-39 (Read)John 1:40-42: (Read)Andrew, Simon Peters brother, was one of the two heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, We have found the Messiah (that is, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas [Aramaic] (which, when translated, is Peter [Greek]).

Peter 7John 1:43-45 (Read)The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, Follow me.Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida. Philip found Nathanael and told him, We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

Peter 8John 2:1-2: On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. John 2:11: What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.1:29 the next day1:35 the next day2:1 on the third day

Peter 9Mark 1:16-18 (Read)As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. At once they left their nets and followed him.Vs 19-20: (Read)James and John likewise ; without delay.See also Matthew 4:18-22(Read): at once & immediatelyPeter 10At Capernaum:Mark 1:29-31: As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there,as well as the cloth that had been wrapped round Jesus head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. Question: Believed what?

Peter 66Acts 15:7 is the last mention of Peter except:1 Peter 1:1: Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To Gods elect, exiles, scattered throughout the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia 2 Peter 1:1: Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:Peter, in harmony with the agreement of Galatians 2:9, wrote to the dispersed of Israel.

Peter 67

When did Peter write these two epistles?Common view is AD 64-66, but that is too late; after Acts 28:25-28.No positive mention of Gentiles;1 Peter 4:7: The end of all things is near.2 Peter 3:3-10: The second coming and the day of the Lord1 & 2 Peter have much more in common with Pauls earlier letters as well as the letters of James, John and Jude.

Peter 682 Peter 3:14-16: (Read)So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.Bear in mind that our Lords patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote to you with the wisdom that God gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

Peter 69Two points:Note 1: What things were hard to understand in Pauls earlier letters; i.e. hard for Jewish Christians?CD: Things that are hard to understandNote 2: See how Peter supports Paul and links Pauls letters with the Scriptures.
