Introduction

For more than 136 years the Indian stock markets have played a central role in translating our capital into

a variety of goods, services and jobs that have steadily improved the standard of living in the country and

contributed to our economic growth.

The Indian stock markets with a turnover of over US$4 trillion, is growing at a rapid pace. Inclusion of varied

asset classes commodities, currencies, power, etc is set to impart scale and depth to the industry. The

industry turnover is expected to reach US$10 trillion by FY14.

The rapid growth of the stock markets and the increasing range and complexity of products and services offered

has resulted in the creation of many exciting job opportunities. There is a need for talented, motivated and

PGDSM is a Distance Education Program with 2 semesters spread across 1 year.

Certication

The program consists of two term - end examinations and a project. On successful completion of

both exams and project, students will receive the Post Graduate Diploma in Stock Markets jointly

from BSE Institute Ltd. and IGNOU [UGC Circular No. F.1-8/92(CPP) dated February, 1992]

Application

To work with a big organization, it is essential

to understand the basic functions of the

management and behavior of the organization.

This module will help students to understand

the basic roles and responsibilities of a

manager.

Quantitative Analysis for Managerial

Application

It is highly essential for students looking

forward to a career in the stock market to

have knowledge of mathematics and have an

inclination towards quantitative analysis.

Capital Markets

In this module, students will study how the

capital markets have evolved to their present

condition while understanding the purpose

and functions of the stock market and other

regulatory bodies.

Quantitative and Statistical Techniques

for Financial Markets

Under this module, the students will learn

statistical and mathematical tools & techniques

with reference to the capital markets.

Economics for the Financial Markets

In this module students will learn to apply

economic theories to the nancial markets.

They will learn nancial economics including

the ideas, scope and tools of nance. Further,

they will also understand the fundamentals of

company investment decisions.

Economic And Social Environment

In order to work in the nance industry, it is

highly essential for professionals to be aware

of the economic and social environment in

which they are working. It is important to be

aware of the theories of economics, sociology

and politics and how they inuence the

business decisions.

Corporate Finance

Corporate nance is a separate domain within

nance. For professionals looking forward to a

career in the stock markets, it is important to

have an understanding of corporate nance.

Students will learn about fund raising, mergers

and acquisitions, and investment decisions of

the company.

Derivatives

Derivatives are an important tool for hedging

risk. It is one of the instruments that are used

in all markets within the nance industry

be it capital, commodity, stock or currency

markets. In this module, students will learn

about the principles of derivatives, credit

derivatives and the applications within the

various markets.

Debt Markets

Debt market is where both, the company

and the government borrow funds from the

market to fund their venture. This is one of the

biggest markets in the country. Here students

will learn about the bond market, gilt edged

market and the future of these markets.

Forex Markets

Forex markets will cover the currency market

in detail starting with the evolution of these

markets upto the functions and operations.

Fundamental & Technical Analysis

In this module, students will cover both, the

Fundamental & technical analysis to Forecast

market trends. The principles will be covered

along with its applications.

InternationalStock Markets Dynamics

In this module students will learn about

the major international stock markets and

their interactions. They will develop an

understanding of the inuence of these

markets, their interplay and the effect it will

have on the Indian stock markets.
