PHILATELY

• Through Philately one can understand interesting details of politics, history, prominent personalities, national and international events, geography, flora and fauna, agriculture, science, monuments,  soldiers,     warriors, scientists,  arms  and ammunition, modes of transport etc. depicted on stamps

• Learning becomes delightful by visuals and brief write-ups 

• Philately helps to   make friends across boundaries and age limits

Types of Stamps• Commemorative     and  definitive• Commemorative- Issued  to commemorate

important events, prominent  personalities, aspects of nature, flora and fauna, environmental issues, agricultural activities, national/ international issues, games   etc.,

• Definitive - Issued  for   day to day  postal  mailing    purposes & available in various denominations at all PO counters

Philatelic material includes • Mint stamps (unused stamps)

• Commemorative stamps.• First Day Covers (FDCs, which are issued with

every commemorative stamp )

• Brochure (Information sheet accompanying each commemorative stamp )

• Collectors' Packs, year-wise

• Catalogue of stamps released since 194711.1.4

Philatelic Bureau & Philatelic Deposit Accounts

• 68 HPOs at  Circle   Head Offices or in major district towns have philatelic bureau

• Commemorative stamps   are   only available at Philatelic Bureau and counters or under the Philatelic Deposit  Account  Scheme.

• Philatelic Deposit Accounts can be opened at  these Bureaus with minimum deposit of Rs. 200/- in cash/MO/DD/Cheque .

• Customer selects types & quantity of philatelic items & reflect in Application

• Bureau supplies each issue of new stamps automatically

Philatelic counters

• Philatelic counters supply all philatelic items but are   not   authorized  to  issue the Special Cancellation that accompanies each commemorative stamp

My stamp

• A new initiative by India Post to obtain personalised sheets of commemorative stamps

• Personalisation is achieved by printing photograph of any of the following alongside selected commemorative stamp– Customer images– Logos of institutions– Images of artwork, heritage buildings, famous tourist

places, historical cities– Images of wildlife, other animals, birds etc.,

• Introduced during World Philatelic Exhibition – INDIPEX 2011

• Can be issued during important philatelic exhibitions

• Facility available in all Philatelic Bureaux and important counters
