6th Sunday of Easter ~ In the letter of John there is perhaps the only definition given for ‘God’ in the Bible. It is, simply stated: “God is love. He (she) who lives in love, lives in God, and God in him (her). Wherever

there is love, there is God.” That having been said, it makes even greater sense of today’s gospel. Jesus says to his disciples: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments I will not leave you orphans; I will

come to you. You are in me and I in you.” Apart from the language of total intimacy, there is a kind of functional spirituality being described. If you ‘do’ this, then ‘this’ will happen to you. Living Jesus’ words (commands) and following his example (way) brings us into a relationship of love and intimacy that makes us one. In this love we will never feel abandoned or orphaned, but rather will ‘know’ his presence, peace, love, care, healing, life, strength, power, spirit? always growing more deeply within us. A further piece of this functional spirituality is the connectedness we will experience with God our Father and Creator by being in union with Jesus the Christ: “On that day you will realize that I am in my Father and you

are in me and I in you.” All of this suggests the need for ‘surrender’ to Jesus’ words (commands) and his example (way). The surrender suggests that ‘trusting’ and ‘living’ his words and example will bring about peace and new life. It is functional: do it, trust it, and something will change in you. Something will begin to happen. You will discover new life – a new spirit. Or to put it once again in Jesus’ own words: “On that day you will realize that I am in my Father and you are in

ONE DAY FIESTA CELEBRATION

This year, St. Bernard Church will begin with a community multi-

cultural one day fiesta to kick off the week-long celebration. We

will have multi-cultural food, games, and entertainment. During

the week, there will be a variety of liturgical celebrations which

are to be announced. The week – long celebration will culminate

with our annual St. Bernard’s Luau on Saturday, August 19. The

Luau will feature for your palate delicious Hawaiian food,

Hawaiian Dancers, prizes and an evening of Dancing under the

Hawaiian stars. Please plan to join us for these festivities.

6º Domingo de Pascua ~ En la Biblia, en la carta de Juan se nos ofrece tal vez la única definición de la palabra 'Dios'. Simplemente se dice: "Dios es amor. El (Ella) que vive en amor, vive en Dios y Dios en él (ella). Dondequiera que hay amor, existe Dios". Dicho eso, el evangelio de hoy tiene aún mayor sentido. Jesús dice a sus discípulos: "Si me aman, cumplirán mis mandamientos ... No los dejaré desamparados,

sino que volveré a ustedes, yo permanezco vivo y ustedes también vivirán". Aparte del lenguaje de la intimidad total, se describe una especie de espiritualidad funcional. Si usted 'hace' esto, entonces, 'esto' otro le sucederá. Vivir las palabras de Jesús (mandamientos) y seguir su ejemplo (el camino) nos lleva a una relación de amor e intimidad que nos hace uno. En este amor nunca nos sentiremos abandonados ni huérfanos, sino que conoceremos su presencia, paz, amor, su cuidado, sanación, vida, fuerza, poder, y espíritu ... creciendo siempre más profundamente dentro de nosotros. Una parte más de esta espiritualidad funcional es la conexión que experimentaremos con Dios nuestro Padre y Creador al estar en unión con Jesús el Cristo: "En aquel día entenderán que yo estoy en mi Padre, estedes en mí y yo en ustedes". Todo esto sugiere la necesidad de ‘rendirse’ a las palabras de Jesús (mandamientos) y su ejemplo (camino). La rendición sugiere que el ‘confiar’ y ‘vivir’ sus palabras y su ejemplo traerán consigo la paz y vida nueva. Esto funciona: hazlo y verás, confía en Él, y algo cambiará en ti. Algo comenzará a suceder. Descubrirás una nueva vida: un nuevo espíritu. O, para ponerlo de nuevo en las propias palabras de Jesús: "En aquel día entenderán que yo estoy en mi Padre, estedes en mí y yo en ustedes".

UN DÍA DE CELEBRACIÓN — Este año, la Iglesia de San Bernardo comenzará con una fiesta comunitaria multi-cultural de un día para dar inicio a la celebración de una semana. Vamos a tener comida multicultural, juegos y entretenimiento. Durante la semana, habrá una variedad de celebraciones litúrgicas que serán anunciadas. La celebración de una semana culminará con el Luau nuestro San Bernardo anual el Sábado,19 de agosto. UNCIÓN DE LOS ENFERMOS Este sacramento es un poderoso sacramento de sanación que se

administra a los enfermos durante su enfermedad. NO deben esperar a las últimas horas pues ya no se piensa que es ni se refiere a él como

"extremaunción". Este sacramento comparte el don sacramental de Jesucristo con el propósito de fortalecer, alentar, y sanar a la persona

en lo profundo de su espíritu. Aún si uno muere este sacramento nos prepara y nos regala la paz sanadora. Las siguientes son algunas sugerencias para que las compartan con los miembros de su familia:

• Llamar al sacerdote al comienzo de una enfermedad grave o de una estancia en el hospital

• Educar a la familia para que entiendan que este sacramento es de sanación

• Invitar a los miembros de la familia a participar en la celebración de este sacramento

• No esperar a los últimos momentos, puede suceder que no encuentren un sacerdote disponible

• Durante los últimos momentos, reúnanse alrededor del moribundo con la presencia, el amor y la oración de su familia
