VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTION Resource fees for 2019 cost $45 per student. These fees go directly to providing every day resources for all students in the classroom. Please send payment in an envelope with your child’s name, class and “Resource Fee” written clearly on the front and place envelope in the silver tin at the school office. You may also pay online via the school website. Please enter “Resource Fee” under the payment description. SCRIPTURE will start this Wednesday, 6th March, 2019. Kinder—Yr 2 @ 12:25pm to 12:55pm. S Holt Scripture Co-ordinator CAMP QUALITY PUPPET SHOW This Wednesday, 6th March, Camp Quality will be presenting a puppet show to our students. The puppet show will highlight important facts regarding cancer and how to support some-one who has cancer. More information is included in this newsletter. YEAR 6 TO YEAR 7 EXPRESSION OF INTEREST forms have been sent home with all Year 6 students to-day. Please complete and return these forms to the school office by Tuesday, 19th March, 2019. MATHLETICS Ashtonfield Public School has invested in the wonderful mathematical pro-gram Mathletics. Mathletics is a well structured online learning platform where students log in and complete as-signed tasks that are set by their classroom teacher. The activities set will provide students with extra practice and revision of content that has been taught in class. As well as completing assigned activities, students may compete with other students around the globe in Live Mathletics. Here students are matched randomly with other students of a similar ability to complete safe, se-cure online maths games. Mathletics can be accessed through any computer with internet access or you can download the app via the App Store on Apple devices or Google Play on Android devices. Students will receive their unique login details from their classroom teacher.

Library News Last week saw all our Kinder students borrowing a book from the library for the first time. It was very exciting for all and involved a great deal of decision making. The good news is they get to do it again this week on their Library day. The students were all provided with a school library bag to help protect these books on their travels to and from the library.

Library books are not home readers and there is no expectation for students, particularly K-2, to read them independently. The aim is for students to develop a love of books and reading so books borrowed can provide an opportunity for students to share these books with their family.

This term Library days are as follows:

The 2019 Premier’s Reading Challenge commences this week and will conclude August 30th. The chal-

lenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition, but a challenge to each student to read and to read more widely.

The Challenge will be completed by students in years K-2 during school time, through students listening to stories read by their class teacher and during Library lessons. Students in Years 3-6 can use class DEAR, library time as well as reading at home to complete the Challenge. The students in years 3 to 6 will be pro-vided with a Personal reading to record their Challenge books.

Library Monitors

It has been wonderful to have so many Year 6 students apply for a position as a library monitor. These students have been undergoing a training program, helping out in the library at lunchtimes over the past few weeks. It is a big commitment for the students that will be ongoing throughout the year.

The enthusiasm of these students and their willingness to help out has been very impressive. Unfortunately there

is only a limited number of positions available and I thank all those who have given up their time. The successful

students will be presented with their Library Monitor badges at the senior school assembly on Friday.
