THE EXOTIC ELEGANCE OF THEBULGARI RESORT IN BALI was theinspiration for the design and detailing of anew and very private estate on the slopes ofDiamond Head. Award-winning architectJim McPeak has created a truly unique res-idence that blends Asian and Europeanmotifs in both the dramatic architectureand interior finishes.

Three structures – the main home, a separate“guest house,” which is also a complete home, and a caretaker’s quarters – occupy a 16,027square foot parcel at the top of a private driveand bordered by the protected acreage of theDiamond Head Special Design District.

The main residence is a four bedroom, four bath, two story home with a separateone bedroom, one bath quarters ideal for acaretaker, home gym, office, or studio. Theexpansive main living area flows seamlessly

out to a landscaped courtyard with an infin-ity pool as the centerpiece and a custom-made Balinese cabana and spa. Upstairs bed-rooms open to a covered deck overlooking

the gardens and ocean. The “guest house,”also two stories, with three bedrooms, twobaths, and a spacious living/dining area, overlooks its own pool deck and gardens.

Although the Bulgari Resort in Bali was the

primary inspiration for the architecture, thekitchens, baths, and landscaping reflect theexpertise of various prominent designers fromGermany, Italy, Asia, and Hawaii. Materials, art objects, and furnishings were flown infrom all over the world to create this master-piece where no detail has been overlooked.

The pavilions and gates, hand-made in Bali, are constructed with Bengkirai hardwood. The yellow Palimanan stone on the lanais, theblack Andesit stone at the entrances, and theParas Kerobokan lava stone used as a veneeron various sections of interior and exteriorwalls and columns are all imported from Bali. These surfaces provide rich contrasts withbroad expanses of plate glass, stucco exteriorwalls, hardwood trim, and copper. The infin-ity edge swimming pool and plunge pool, tiled with Sukabumi green stone, gleam likeemeralds when lit at night.

Designs and materials from allover the world have been

harmoniously integrated in asingle estate…this is what

makes it truly unique.

“Designs and materials from all over theworld have been harmoniously integrated ina single estate...this is what makes it trulyunique. And the location is ideal…on theslopes of Diamond Head, within walkingdistance of some of Hawaii’s best beaches, private clubs, and other luxury homes. Ifyou take a walk around the neighborhoodwhere so many of the new homes are start-ing to resemble each other, you can reallyappreciate the fact that this residence is one-of-a-kind. It definitely makes a statementand raises the bar for the design and creationof future luxury homes in the Islands.”
