Recap -The Rose Period represented…

The Rose Period of Picasso lasted from1904 to 1906 This period signifies thetime when the style of Pablo Picasso'spainting used cheerful orange and pinkcolours in contrast to the cool, sombretones of the previous Blue Period.

During these few years, Picasso washappy in his relationship with FernandeOlivier whom he had met in 1904 andthis has been suggested as one of thepossible reasons he changed his style ofpainting. Harlequins, circus performersand clowns appear frequently in the RosePeriod and will populate Picasso'spaintings at various stages through therest of his long career.

What is Cubism?

From 1907-1917, Pablo Picasso pioneered the Cubism movement, a revolutionary style of modern art that Picasso formed in response to the rapidly changing modern world. In collaboration with his friend and fellow artist Georges Braque.

Picasso challenged conventional, realistic forms of art through the establishment of Cubism. He wanted to develop a new way of seeing that reflected the modern age, and Cubism is how he achieved this goal.
