Abir Chatterjee, whodepicts the detective, was quick to respond,“There’s a limit, Arindamda. Even Saty-abati is yours? Let her be happy as Byo-mkesh’s wife! But then, she’s your ghorermeye. Had I been late you would have made

a big hue and cry.”Such banter was a one of the

high points of the eveningwhere everyone was dres-

sed in Indian clothes. “Mydirector is always so

well dressed that I hadto buy a kurta to makesure Byomkesh canmatch up to him,”Abir quipped. At theadda over tea and cof-
