These academies were known for providing ex- cellent education and sending hundreds of their grad- uates to leading universities and colleges and into the larger arena of community and professional life. Currently, Pine Forge Academy (PFA) is one of only four historically Black boarding schools remaining in the Unit- ed States, holding true to the aforementioned mission. Wagner envisioned a board- ing school in the North where African-American high school students could attend without the racial chal- lenges faced by Blacks in Southern schools. News spread that 575 acres of land near Pottstown, Penn- sylvania was for sale. President Wagner and Dr. Grace Kimbrough visited the Rutter Estate. Immediately upon seeing the property they knew their prayers had been answered. The boarding school would first be called Pine Forge Institute and it opened its doors on September 9, 1946 with 90 students. Pine Forge Academy is a priceless heritage and en- during legacy. The Academy has a rich history of de- veloping today’s students and tomorrow’s leaders by focusing on building Christian character and a com- mitment to service! We are dedicated to the harmo- nious development of a student’s heart (integrity and character), head (intelligence), hand (practical skills). Our Mission: Pine Forge Academy, a co-educational Seventh-day Adventist school, serves grades 9-12. It is committed to providing a Christ-centered curriculum in a safe, caring environment, to prepare students spiritually, in- tellectually, physically, and socially for service to God and man.

Our School History

Pine Forge Academy is a leader in providing academic excellence to African American students from across the nation and the Caribbean. The school has a yearly gradu-ation rate of 100%. Of its 3,500 alumni, 98% have gone on to enter and finish college. Established to provide a holis-tic approach to learning, Pine Forge Academy focuses its education on the heart, the head and the hand. “Pine Forge Academy saved my life,” Samara, class of 2016, declares: “My grandmother sends me to Pine Forge on a pension and a prayer. She sacrifices for me and the teachers of Pine Forge Academy meet her sacrifice with blood, sweat, and tears of their own. They pour themselves into me so I can become the young woman I know I can be.”

Our Campus: After the Civil War, nearly 100 African-American

boarding schools existed across the United States, according to St. Petersburg Times columnist Bill Max-well. These academies were known for providing ex-cellent education and sending hundreds of their grad-uates to leading universities and colleges and into the larger arena of community and professional life.

Currently, Pine Forge Academy (PFA) is one of only four historically Black boarding schools remaining in the Unit-ed States, holding true to the aforementioned mission.

PFA is located on historical property once owned by Thomas Rutter, an abolitionist iron miller, whose proper-ty was deeded to him by William Penn in the early 1700’s.

Our Learning Community: In the 1940s John H. Wagner envisioned a board-

ing school in the North where African-American high school students could attend without the racial chal-lenges faced by Blacks in Southern schools. News spread that 575 acres of land near Pottstown, Penn-sylvania was for sale. President Wagner and Dr. Grace Kimbrough visited the Rutter Estate. Immediately upon seeing the property they knew their prayers had been answered. The boarding school would first be called Pine Forge Institute and it opened its doors on September 9, 1946 with 90 students.

Pine Forge Academy is a priceless heritage and en-during legacy. The Academy has a rich history of de-veloping today’s students and tomorrow’s leaders by focusing on building Christian character and a com-mitment to service! We are dedicated to the harmo-nious development of a student’s heart (integrity and character), head (intelligence), hand (practical skills).

Our Mission: Pine Forge Academy, a co-educational Seventh-day

Adventist school, serves grades 9-12. It is committed to providing a Christ-centered curriculum in a safe, caring environment, to prepare students spiritually, in-tellectually, physically, and socially for service to God and man.
