Pinellas County4.9GHz High Speed Data

Communications Project UpdateFebruary 6, 2007

• Project Funding: US Army Armament Research, Development, and Engineering Center (ARDEC)

• Long-Term Objectives/Phased Approach:– Phase 1: Interoperability of local first responder network

• 18 month effort with completion scheduled in June ’07• Provided funding for equipment, lab facilities, contractor support

and in SOSSEC integration efforts for ARDEC– Results to Date:

• Technology selection: SkyPilot and PacketHop baseline• Technology feasibility demonstration for proof of concept• Modeling and simulation of 4.9GHz baseline• 4.9GHz Systems Integration Lab and Test Bed for comparative

performance analysis utilizing 4.9/2.4/5.8GHz combinations – Preliminary recommendation: portable incident area network

• Relatively high data bandwidth• Relatively limited range and penetration

Project Update

• Mission Needs– Stakeholder Requirements– SAFECOM Requirements

• Technical Assessment– Standards– Investigative Trade Study– Lab Evaluations– Field Evaluations

• Operational Gap analysis• Characterization Through

Modeling & Simulation• Technology

Demonstration & Evaluation

• System Evaluation for Technical and Cost Feasibility

• Operational Transition Plan
