RudyPresident of the Board

Dear Pine Lake Members,

Summer is certainly in full swing at PLCC. Our new playground is open, the pool continues to draw lots of members and guests and our cart path project is nearly complete. Membership continues to be an area of fo-cus for the club. Our current member total count is 523 compared to 535 last July. If you know of prospective members who might like the oppor-tunity to visit with us and experience “Pine Lake for a Day” have them contact our main office and we’ll be happy to show them around our facilities. In April, our new Board of Directors agreed to share our quarterly financial informa-tion with our membership on an on-going basis.

Our First Quarter Summary

Balance Sheet and Summary Income Statement are enclosed in this newsletter. Upon review you will find that our club is in good financial standing. Here are a few of the highlights:

Summary Balance Sheet

- Capital Cash is up primarily due to member assessments. - Lifetime Cash is up due to new member enrollment. - Deferred Liabilities is up primarily due to increases in the Lifetime Memberships.

Summary Income Statement

- Revenue is down primarily due to usage at the club. - Payroll and Benefits are over budget due to retention of F&B positions and increased costs of health care. - Operating Expenses are under budget due primarily to cost control efforts.

Should you have questions regarding the financial info please ask.

Thanks for your continued support of PLCC!!

Rudy Turnage, on behalf of PLCC Board of Directors

It’s hard to believe summer is half over. After starting with a string of days over 90 degrees, several breaks of mild temperatures have given our bentgrass greens a much needed relief from stress. The bermudagrass is growing aggressively and providing quality playing conditions. We should move into the fall tournament season in excellent condition. Tree removal on several holes was recently done to improve playability or protect the cart paths. A new tree planting on the 9th hole will further pro-tect the tennis courts from errant golf balls as well as improve aesthetics. The new playground area was sod-ded with a few loose ends remaining. Sodding was also done in areas throughout the course as needed. The

biggest challenge in the near future will be reestablish-ing the cart path edges once paving is complete. Ray Helms our golf course mechanic of over 36 years retired in July. His position carries great responsi-bilities in keeping our area running efficiently. He per-formed his duties with much dedication and will surely be missed. Our new hire is Doug Dench. Doug brings over 12 years of golf course experience, with his latest being at Charlotte Golf Links. Our next greens aerification will be on Tuesday, September 2nd. The smaller 3/8ths coring tine will be used to ensure the greens recover in time for the busy fall tournament schedule. I still enjoy fall the most with its crisp mornings and warm bright days. I can’t wait!

To date the weather this year has been so much better then last year, as a result of this rounds are up, the golf course and range are busy and we have a great deal going on at the club. In an effort to stay updated on activities, keep an eye on your incoming emails from Pine Lake and please use our website to make sure that you don’t miss out on the fun events and competitions. If you haven’t been by the Golf Shop recently, come by and check out our latest selection of Nike, Adidas, Foot-Joy and Antigua clothing lines, along with Titleist, Taylor Made, Cobra and Mizuno woods, irons, hi-brid, wedges and putters. It is my goal that you can get all of your golfing needs at Pine Lake, safe in the knowledge that it is at a competitive price and that you have a Golf Professional that can fit you and share with you their extensive experience and knowledge to help you improve your game and make your time at the club more fun. August already and school is not far off. Where has the summer gone? The cart paths are great and walkers have it somewhat easier to maneuver the course. The Nine Holers have been enjoying the summer. Our member guest was a picnic affair with good food, beautiful weather, and cart paths (yippee) and best of all sharing the experience with friends. Proud member of PLCC and Mint Hill Chamber of Commerce I can help with sciatic pain management, rotator cuff issues, pain when golfing or participating in sports, arthritis, low back pain, all types of conditions that cause

discomfort and affect your quality of life.

Don’t Fight Yourself ! In a tennis match there will be obstacles to overcome

and many battles to win. Don’t make things tougher on yourself with internal struggles. These struggles can include negative self talk, a bad attitude (anger, tanking, etc.) and a lack of confidence. As with your forehand or volleys you can improve these “mental muscles” with practice. Here is something to work on; take responsi-bility for your actions and re-actions. You will then realize you are in control and can respond in a more positive and constructive manner. So stay positive and win this battle from within and you will play better and have more fun!

2014 Men’s Golf Member/Member Event Results

This year our Men’s Member-Member had the best turn out that we have had in many years.

120 men (60 teams) competed in cooler tem-peratures then we would usually experience in late June. The format was Better Ball of the Two-some (Net & Gross), played over two days.

The golf course saw some heavy rain overnight on Friday, which made it long, and heavy under foot. The team of Gene Lee & David Rose got off to an electric start and shot 58 net in the first round and held on with a very strong finishing round of 63 and a very fine total of 23 under par, including an Eagle 2 on hole #9 from Mr. Rose.

In the Gross Division the Father-Son Team of Barry & Scott Burnett started as they meant to go on and shot 65, only to follow it up with a 9 under par gross 63, for a total of 16 under par for the two days!
