Procedure

Time Required: 1 class period(s) of 40 minutes.

Materials and Resources used by teachers and students:Paper, pencils, erasers.

Preparation for Teacher:Review lesson plan.

Pull up the websites and know what to do with them once they are launched. Run through how the lesson plan will go with the websites and how students may react.

Create a Wiki page with links to the websites. This will enable students to have simple access to all the websites that are necessary for the lesson plan.

Have worksheets printed and prepared for students to complete. Read through the worksheets to check for mistakes or misprints. Complete the worksheets yourself so that we know it works out well.

Make a checklist of all materials needed for lesson plan activities. Fulfill the checklist and be prepared for any possible failures

Have extra worksheets ready to go just in case.

Fully practice lesson plan routine and anticipate difficult questions and technology failures.

Step-by-Step Teacher Procedure:Explain rhyme definition – address the definition while presenting examples and learning activities. Write the examples and learning activities on the whiteboard for all the students to see. Write different rhyme groups on the board and connect corresponding groups using circles, squares, triangles, etc. Hand out the worksheet to be completed by the students. Concentrate on each

individual student, particularly those struggling. Read the Dr. Seuss book, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish. Instruct the students to clap whenever they hear a rhyme scheme. Pass out the cards with sentences and instruct students to find their partner, who has a sentence that rhymes with yours. Explain the websites that students will access and use. The websites are

To get to the websites go to wiki.

Pass out the candy poem, and explain that the word bank has all the correct answers. Then, have students fill out any other possible words that may have worked within the poem. If time allows, play a rhyming game where all the students sit cross-legged and rhyme in a circle with single words, no phrases. If a student does not say a word that rhymes or waits longer than three seconds, they are out and a new round begins.

Assessment Type(s): Writing Samples, Teacher-made Test, Self Assessment Assessment Plan:We will have students circle words that rhyme with specific words. This will truly test if the students can identify rhyme in poetry.
