Sep 2014 Platform for Translational Research on Transgenic Crops [PTTC] Department of Biotechnology An ICRISAT-DBT, Govt. of India Initiative Mission • To translate transgenic technology and harness its products to meet the needs of agricultural growth. Concept Objecves • To act as a clearinghouse for technology inputs, transgenic research leads/prototypes with proof of concept derived from Indian research instutes and universies (other sources could be considered) • To “evolve” the technology to a point where a praccal applicaon can be demonstrated and transfer this “evolved” technology to the private or public sector for advancement. • To carry out detailed examinaon of IPR issues associated with the transgenic events selected for product development and develop biosafety dossiers for commercializaon of the product based on selected event. • To idenfy partnerships for sharing mechanisms for seed registraon and markeng of the final “product”. Product Development Roadmap Acvies • Independent evaluaon of trait-specific transgenic events • Examine IPR issues in transgenic product development • Develop product dossiers for commercializaon • Create specific projects with defined milestones and end-points • Coordinate and conduct the evaluaon of transgenic events for biosafety studies • Introgression of the desirable transgenic events • Idenfy partnerships for sharing mechanisms for markeng of the final “product” • Conduct awareness programmes and capacity building on translaonal research, biosafety evaluaon, etc. and general awareness for various stakeholders including sciensts, students, policy makers, media personnels, etc. Approach Services Network
