The Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, Ms Pamela Tshwete (far left in photograph), had this message to give to the people of Ga-Motodi near Burgersfort on Tuesday during Water Week Celebrations in the village.

Part of the clebrations was the handing over of a media centre to Marota Promary School for winning last year’s Poetry section of the Department’s Baswa Le Meetse, project, which is run with the Department of Education and the MTN Foundation. The school also won an amount of cash. She told her large audience “water still remains a key commodity in the develop-ment of our communities and our county. Twickenham furnishes Taxi Associa on’s offi cesDruta receives dona on

Twickenham Mine has donated offi ce furniture valued at R115,000 to Druta Taxi Associa on in Burgersfort. This includes tables and leather chairs for the boardroom and offi ces, execu ve cabinets and a desk and couch for the recep on area. “Anglo American Pla num is happy to partner with its stakeholders and assist in any way it can,” says Lebang Gaobepe, Social Plans Manager. “The minibus taxi industry transports over 60% of South Africa’s com-

muters and remains the cri cal pillar of the country’s public transport sector. Not only is it the most available mode of transport, it is also the most aff ordable.”

Caring for communities

Tubatse SUPERSPAR came to the rescue of Apiesdoorn resi-dents who were affected by a severe thunderstorm on Sunday afternoon. The company donated 126 blankets to the commu-nity. Mr. Jackson Tjatji came to collect the blankets on behalf of the residents. Ms. Phindiwe Mnisis from Tubatse SUPERSPAR handed them over. She said: “We care about our communities. They are also our customers and we are happy to be able to assist in this way”. Mr. Tjatji thanked them, encouraging commu-nities to support the store.

Stay away from this street lightElectricity and water do not mix well. An unattended water leak (although it was re-ported last year) and a street light that is not properly insulated resulted in a family losing

a beloved pet. “We are terribly sad about our pit-bull, but we also feel that something should be done as this could have been a child being electrocuted,” said Ms Carien

Purcell from Leop-ard’s Bush. Apparently work-ers from Lepelle Northern Water came to repair the leak last year, but they could not work on it because Eskom fi rst had to come and repair the pole releasing its cur-rent. Nothing was done since and on 3 March the family’s

dog dug himself out of their premises and strayed into the water where it was shocked. “My husband tested the current and it was 151V running through the ground and the pole,” Purcell added. They reported

everything again. In the mean time Eskom has switched off the electricity to the pole. The leak has been worked on but is still not completely fi xed. “Who do we blame?” Pur-cell asked. “What if this was your child and not my dog?” (Photographs: Carien Purcell).

“Somebody at Opel has fl icked a switch. And the ensuing surge of power has produced a fresh new generation of machinery, like the Adam and the Mokka, which easily match the youth-oriented cars being made by Citroën, Renault, Audi and Mini. Even the Corsa, a stalwart of the range since 1982, has been reinvented to better take the fi ght to its old enemy, the Volkswagen Polo”.

The paragraph above is not our own, we plagiarised it from the internet, because we agree with it, and what is said, is the truth and said in a nice way.

Because some customers of the newspaper are always way behind schedule (do we see a government building in the distance?) Platinum Gazette’s normal test driver could not make it in time to Westvaal Steelpoort on Tuesday to drive the new Opel Corsa Essen-tia (1litre 3 cylinder Ecofl ex Turbo, fi ve doors, Intelliink infotainment, park assist, fi ve doors, R185 500, goes like hell).

BUT, great joy in the Advertising Department. Big (no, not big, very big) smile from the imcumbent of this department when she returned from Steelpoort.

“This is a girl car” she exclaimed “There is a mirror on the driver’s side in the sun shade and not on the passengers’ side” she bubbled, “ and the boot is big enough for all my stuff (stuff you know), and I passed a truck and it goes to 160 like this” (fl ick of a fi nger).

It apparently also “sits on the road, and you can adjust the power steer for city or open road driving and I did not bump it when I took it back because it also has the park assist thing”. Yea.

According to the ‘report’ the little car have ‘lekker’ seats, has exemplary build quality and have all sorts of curves, making it very attractive, following Opel Design’s theme of wings in fl ight.

And from what can be gleaned from the photographs that came back to the offi ce ... (Just let us cut it here, dear reader. Me and you should phone Westvaal Steelpoort at 013 230 9230 and ask them when we can come and see for ourselves).

Vote for HencoeSteelpoort’s own Mr South Africa fi nalist needs your vote to help push him through. The organisers of the competition says that they are essentially looking for a model male to represent the coun-try. Contestants are also active in com-munity projects.Hencoe Beukes (21) from Steel-poort is one the 2015 contestants and the public can vote for him by sms MRSA002 to 47439.This will be R3 per sms.
