Kyle Panning led off the game with a single, moved to second as Nolan Lepel reached on an error, and was driven home on an RBI dou- ble by Chris Odegaard as Plato took the lead for good before Fergus Falls’ initial at- bat. Odegaard took to the mound as starting pitcher for the second time in as many games and was dominant once again. After opening with a 1-2-3 first inning, Odegaard struck out the side in the second in- ning and held a no-hitter into the sixth inning. The Hurri- canes not only struck for their first hit in the sixth, but also logged their first run in the frame. However, by that point, the Blue Jays had already scored eight times. Panning, Chris Odegaard and Lepel tied for the team lead with two hits apiece. Plato Continued from page 1B

Bruins Continued from page 1Bhitting in the first and thirdinnings to seize a 4-0 leadover what appeared at thetime to be a demoralizedSartell squad.

Deryk Randt’s RBI singledrove home Spencer Glaeserin the top of the first inningto give Brownton the open-ing edge at 1-0.

In the third, the Bruinstacked on three more two-outruns as Randt and TaylorSchuette singled beforeRandt scored and MattSchwichtenberg reached on aMuskie error.

Hot-hitting Jason Rosenau, who went 5-for-8 at the platein this year’s tournament, drove home both Randt andSchwichtenberg on a two-run single to put Browntonup 4-0 on the Region 1champions.

The game appeared well inhand for the Bruins, withstarting pitcher Dylan Mc-Cormick cruising throughthe first four innings.

    However, Sartell drew

even in the fifth by convert-ing a bases-loaded, no-outscenario into four runs andresetting the contest at 4-4.

Undaunted, Brownton bat-tled back to score two runs inthe seventh to re-take thelead at 6-4.

Ryan Grams led off theframe with a single, whichwas followed by a walk toJosh Dietz. The pair weremoved to second and thirdon a sacrifice bunt by Randtbefore Schuette reached andGrams scored on anotherSartell error.

The Bruins’ second run ofthe game came in a mannerfamiliar to many Browntonfans as Rosenau laid downthe bunt with Dietz barrelinghome from third base. Thesuicide squeeze play workedto perfection to give the Bru-ins a two-run advantage.

The edge did not last, however, and theRosenau/Dietz fireworksproved to be Brownton’s lasthurrah of the 2016 season.

Sartell promptly evenedthe score at 6-6 with a pair ofruns in the bottom of the sev-enth before the roof caved inon the Bruins in the eighth.

Three walks to begin thestanza were followed by fourhits and other assortedBrownton miscues as theMuskies brought home sevenrunners against three differ-ent Bruins pitchers to turn anailbiter into a rout headedinto the ninth inning.

Dietz gave Bruins fans abrief glimmer of hope bydoubling to lead off histeam’s final turn at bat, butthe optimism was fleeting asBrownton proceeded to godown in order on a pair ofstrikeouts and a fly ball toend its summer.

Grams took the loss as oneof six Bruins pitchers – in-cluding draftees Mark Ulrichand Mike Mueller – to pitchin the contest.

Brownton closed out itsseason by winning five of itsfinal eight games.

    Weight Gain

The Department of Natural Resources official, wearing a headlamp and peering at the scale, announced in a clear, loudvoice, “One-hundred sixty-five pounds! One-hundred and sixty-five pounds! One hundred and sixty-five pounds!” Thecrowd of orange-clad hunters gathered around the hoisted buck applauded the announcement of the eight-pointer'sweight.

It was the opening of the deer rifle season, and this particular weigh-in was taking place at a gas station. I finished filling mygas tank, and followed the hunter whose whitetail had just been weighed into the convenience store. The happy hunter asked thecashier if he could use the phone to make a local call. I listened as he told the person on the other end, “I got a nice eight-point-er that weighed one-hundred and eighty pounds!”

In less than five minutes his dead deer had somehow managed to gain fifteen pounds! Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if,by the next morning, this same buck tipped the scales at two-hundred pounds - or even more!

Now, what difference does fifteen pounds really make? And, where do such lies come from? According to the Bible every lie that has ever been told can ultimately be traced back to the devil. Regarding the devil Jesus

stated, “When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44b). We need to realize that lying is completely contrary to Christ's character. On one occasion Jesus declared, “I am the way and

the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). If we know Christ as our Savior, we have aresponsibility to be truthful.

Paul told the believers in Ephesus, “Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, forwe are all members of one body” (Ephesians 4:25). May God help us to speak “the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15).

This weekly message is contributed by the following concerned citizens and businesses who urge you to attend the church of your choice. To be added to this page, contact us at 320-864-5518.
