Community VCA is the most important element to build strong DRM/CCA
• Hazard Identification– Disaster History, Seasonal Calendar, Food
Calendar, Key Changes, Health Issues, Identify Key Hazards
• Vulnerability Mapping– Vulnerabilities/Impacts, Coping Mechanisms,
Causes, Resources/Capacity, Early warning systems
• Identification of preparedness/mitigation activities, and timeframes

Focus on addressing root causes of vulnerability (Health, Environment, Education,

Conduct CBHFA (Community Based Health and First Aid) program which empowers the vulnerable community to be able to conduct first aid in accidents or injuries and respond to other health problems.
Activate Health Cadre to carry out various activities to support healthy lifestyle, such as health promotion, environmental and waste management.
Initiate community-based psychosocial support programmes to help affected people cope with their situation, seeking to restore their hope, dignity, mental and social well-being, and sense of normality.
Strengthen Adaptive Capacity via Health Sector
Strengthen Adaptive Capacity via Environment Sector
Green and Clean Project : bio-pore, solid waste management (composting), recycling, tree plantation,
Cash Transfer Programming Financial preparedness as part of the
efforts to reduce continuous poverty and build community resilience: Microfinance activities, savings and loans coperatives, Household economic trainings, Home Industry Trainings

Alternative livelihoods during disaster
Strengthen Adaptive Capacity via Livelihood Sector
• Mobilization of Youth Red Cross’ Life Skill Education approach – harnessing Children and Youth’s potential and protection
• Comic Books about disaster for children (WV) – accessible relevant information
Strengthen Adaptive Capacity via Education Sector
Challenge: Traditional coping mechanism are
inadequate for the changing climate and changing natures of disasters
