Lately I have had a desire to go back to the basics and read many of the books I read in college that are considered business standards. Having an extra 20 or so years of ex-perience has helped me glean new lessons from these classic books. For example, when I first read Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People I had a hard time finishing it. I got the principles, but it seemed so complex and dry. Now, I practice the habits every day—I have my own thoughts on them and I seek out different ways to apply them. I get so much more out of it now than I did when I was younger and less experienced.

The same applies to our project management skills. Are we taking the time as project managers to continue to learn and grow? Is the world still the same place? Is the environment we work in still the same? Are there different ideas and tools to deal with? Stephen Covey said “All things are created twice; first mentally; then physically. The key to creativity is to begin with the end in mind, with a vision and a blue print of the desired result.” What a great thought for project managers!

Thank you for being a part of the chapter and building the profession and each other. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you be more successful.

Adam Tidwell, President, PMI Northern Utah Chapter

He is also Chairman of a dy-namic 3D Online education and training company started by his PhD wife. Linda, - the VIEW- Virtu-al Immersive Educational Worlds.

A core part of Bradford’s career was as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Novell, Inc. Volunteer and Community Outreach with PMI-NUC

Giving Back to Our Communities in 2015

On March 28th the Northern Utah Chapter helped to support

the Make A Wish Foundation Annual Easter Egg Hunt. The

hunt includes games, crafts and snacks for the wish kids and

their families. This year it was held at the pavilion at Fort Douglas near the University of

Utah campus. This was a wonderful and rewarding way to give back to the community!

If you are interested in volunteering for future events please email

Liz Price at [email protected]

On May 14th (the Wednesday following the Professional Development

Conference) we will be returning to the Ronald McDonald House to prepare dinner for

the families staying there while their children receive much needed medical care. Dinner

preparations will begin at 5PM and service is at 6PM. All volunteers will help prepare the

meal, eat with the families and then clean up afterwards.

Be sure to check “yes” to participate in the service project

during your PDC registration process.

If you have any questions please email

Liz Price at [email protected]

If you have the time and the inclination, please, come jon us

as we serve those in need within our community. Helping hands are always welcome and always needed.

2015 Board of Directors Elections: April 2015

The PMINUC board of director elections will open April 6th. Please visit our website to vote for your favorite candidate.

The open positions this year are: President; Secretary; VP Membership; VP Community Outreach; VP Programs and VP Volunteers. All positions are open to any members in good standing. The President must have served on the board

within the last two years to be eligible for that role. The elections will be held from April 6th to April 19th and the selected candidates will begin shadowing in May and officially take office July 1, 2015.

Thank You! The PMI NUC Chapter Makes a

Difference!

Thank you for your willingness to serve within the chapter as well

as within the communities that we live in.

We look forward to continuing to provide opportunities for service

to our members wherein you can continue to share your skills, tal-

ents and expertise within our communities.

Chapter Book Club

We have created a list of books for our members based on the feedback we received at the luncheons.

Most of the people we talked to are interested in learning more about leadership and how to positively

influence team members when costs are cut and more is required with less resources.

On our current list you will find 20 book recommendations that cover a variety of topics including

leadership, communication, project management, personal development, team work and how to over-

come obstacles and disadvantages. Take a peek, there is something here for everyone.

Please provide your feedback and let us know what else you are interested in learning at the luncheons

or through the book (or e-book) club by sending an email to:

Elena Balasa at [email protected].
