• The research conducted through the Job Task Analysis validated that today’s project management practitioners work in a variety of project environments and utilize different project approaches. Accordingly, the PMP certification will be reflective of this and will incorporate approaches across the value delivery spectrum. About half of the examination will represent predictive project management approaches and the other half will represent agile or hybrid approaches. Predictive, agile, and hybrid approaches will be found throughout the three domain areas listed above and are not isolated to any particular domain or task.

• Past editions of the PMBOK® Guide used Process Groups and Knowledge Areas as the organizing concept. In the Seventh Edition we are shifting the focus to Performance Domains.

• …Performance domains … are outcomes focused. Notice that outcomes are different from outputs… in previous editions of the PMBOK® Guide the processes culminated in an output, such as a scope statement, risk management plan, stakeholder register, etc. Outputs … are not the same as outcomes. Outputs enable outcomes.

• 3 new Domains: People, Process and Business Environment

• Several new Tasks / Enablers currently not supported by the PMBOK Guide Version 6

• 50% of the test questions based on Waterfall/Predictive, 50% on Agile/Adaptive or Hybrid approaches

• No update to the PMBOK Guide to align with the new ECO until 2021 with new focus on performance domains

• 8 new references (4,000 pgs) cited + PMBOK Guide & Agile Practice Guide

• Possible changes to the multiple choice answering options

REP Changes

• Every existing REP will have to reapply in accordance with new guidelines (still under development).

• Must use PMI’s new class content being developed by a third party (not named/no date).

• PMI will implement a “Train the Trainer” (no details to date).

• New per-student fees in addition to REP costs (no details to date).

• They “anticipate” being able to share more info in “early 2020” (no date).
