3. Test Purpose:
POC-W211 will phase in 2 PCI-E x1 cards, Uptech UTB-100 2-Ports 1394a PCI-E x1 card and Uptech
UTB310 2-Ports RS-232 PCI-E x1 card, in order to extend these two kinds of ports and functions
separately. The detail test methods and criteria are described as below.
4. Verification:
IEEE 1394
Basic Function Test
1. Plug the s1394 device in DUT.
2. Check the DUT can detect 1394 device.
3. Check the DUT has list 1394 device in device manager.
4. Use passmark burn in test program to test read/write for 1394 HDD.
Hot Plug Test
1. Plug the 1394 device in DUT.
2. Check the DUT can detect 1394 device.
3. Check the DUT has list 1394 device in device manager.
4. Hot plug the 1394 device for 5 cycles.
Passmark Burn-In test
1. Install Passmark Burn-In Test Pro V6
2. In main screen please click Configuration then choose Test preferences. There will pop up a dialog of
“BurnInTest Preferences”.
3. Select Disk and make sure all disk drives’ “Test this drive” has checked. Adjust the File size to 15 (%
of disk space).
4. In main screen please click Configuration then choose Test duty cycles. There will pop up a dialog of
“Test configuration and duty cycles”.
5. Select the Disk(s) tests to perform and the duty cycle set to Max load (100).
6. Fill the test period in “Auto Stop after 720 Minutes.
7. Close all power schemes and start test
File Copy Compare test (HP Fill Disk v3.01):
1. Install HP Fill Disk v3.01
2. Double click HP Fill Disk v3.0.exe
3. Choose file source and select all files.
4. Select which Destination will copy to.
5. Choose running mode in Loops or Duration.

6. Click File then save configuration.
7. Start testing by pressing Run Test button.
ACPI Test
1. Connect 1394 device to all available 1394 port.
2. Let DUT go to S1/S3/S4 mode separately.
3. Wake up the DUT and check the 1394 device can work properly.
4. Repeat the test at least 5 times.
Reboot Test
1. Connect 1394 device to all available 1394 port.
2. Reboot the DUT and check the 1394 device can work properly.
3. Repeat the test at least 5 times.
RS-232
Loopback test
1. Install Pcomm Pro v2.0 test program.
2. Plug the RS-232 loopback on each RS-232 port.
3. Perform the test program click StartProgramsPcomm Pro 2.0Terminal Emulator.
4. Open COM port test screen by clicking Port ManagerOpenCommunication Parameter.
5. Choose the port to test in COM Options. Other parameter with default setting.
6. Input some letters.
7. Press DTR button.
8. Press RTS button.
9. Connect the 15 meter cable with RS-232 loopback and repeat the steps 3 to 8.
Null Modem Cable test
1. Install Pcomm Pro v2.0 test program on two platforms. One is on PC1 and the other PC2.
2. Connect two platform’s RS-232 port through the Null Modem Cable.
3. Perform the test program on both platforms by click StartProgramsPcomm Pro 2.0Terminal
Emulator.
4. Open COM port test screen which under tested and connected on both platform by clicking Port
ManagerOpenCommunication Parameter.
5. Choose the port to test in COM Options. Other parameter with default setting.
6. Input some letters on PC1 then will be displayed on PC2. Input some letters on PC2 then will be
displayed on PC1.
7. Press DTR button on PC1 then DSR will be lighted on PC2.
8. Press RTS button on PC1 then CTS will be lighted on PC2.
Function test
1. Plug the RS-232 loopback on each RS-232 port.

2. Install Serial Device Server Configuration Utility v1.01 test program.
3. Perform the test program by clicking ToolsSimple Serial Test ToolSelect test COM portTest.
Throughput test
1. Install Pcomm Pro v2.0 test program.
2. Plug the Advantech RS-232 loopback in each RS-232 port.
3. Perform the test program on both platforms by click StartProgramsPcomm Pro 2.0
Performance Analyzer.
4. Add all RS-232 port for performance test by clicking SetupConfigPortsAdd COM portOK.
5. All RS-232 port set the same parameter to 115200 baud Rate, 8 Data Bits, None Parity, and 1 Stop
Bits.
6. Execute the performance burn in test by clicking RunStart.
ACPI Test
1. Let DUT enter into all supporting ACPI mode.
2. Wake up the DUT and check the RS-232 function.
3. Repeat the test for 5 times.
Reboot Test
1. Reboot the system.
2. Check the RS-232 function after booting to OS.
3. Repeat the test for 5 times.
5. Test Criteria:
IEEE 1394
1. Make sure 1394 device can be detected and work properly without any problem. It can’t have any
caution or question mark in device manager.
2. Verify the DUT can recognize the 1394 devices properly after hot-plugging. The hot-plug test must
pass at least 5 times.
3. Passmark burn in test can’t have any error or problem after finishing the test for 20 minutes.
4. File copy compare test for storage can’t have any error after finishing the test for 1 hour.
5. The function of 1394 device can work properly after resuming from ACPI mode.
6. The function of 1394 device can work properly after system reboot.
RS-232
1. Check typing some letters and it can be displayed what you typed on screen.
2. Check pressing DTR (Data Terminal Ready) button on test platform then DSR/RI/DCD will be
lighted.

3. Check pressing RTS (Request To Send) button on test platform then CTS (Clear To Send) will be
lighted.
4. Check above three items which connect to loopback with 15 meter cable.
5. Check typing some letters on DUT then will be displayed on PC1. On the contrary is the same.
6. Press DTR button on PC1 then DSR will be lighted on PC2. On the contrary is the same.
7. Press RTS button on PC1 then CTS will be lighted on PC2. On the contrary is the same.
8. Check all supported baud rate work properly without error or any problem.
9. Check the throughput of 115200 baud rate can meet the spec and burn-in more than 12hrs.

IEEE 1394
Note: All of the IEEE 1394 functions are on the premise that Windows XPP SP3 needs to install Windows
KB955356. It is to prevent the system stop responding while connected the external IEEE 1394 HDD.

rate, so that RS-232 Function test will be failed. Uptech UTB310 2-Ports RS-232 PCI-E x1 card Baud rate
are generated by OXFORD OXPCIe952 PCI-e Bridge to Dual Serial & Parallel single chip, it can support
at least 3686400 Baud rate.
