Poinciana Delonix regia also Flamboyant or Flame Tree There are seven Poincianas planted in a row along the footpath providing shade and amenity to this section of Boundary Street. They may or may not be removed but their growth and canopies will be impacted.

Originally from Madagascar, this tree is widely grown in the tropics and subtropics, including It is in northern Australia, SE QLD and NSW. It’s genus name 'Delonix' comes from the Greek words delos, meaning conspicuous and onyx, meaning claw.

Mature trees grow up to 9 to 12 metres high as seen by these trees. Their canopy is wider than the trees.

These trees are susceptible to borers and the brown root rot fungus. They should not have mulch within the spread of the canopy.

The totally amount of Carbon stored in these poinciana trees is

estimated as 17,622 Kg of Carbon which is 64,614 kg of C02-e.

These trees will be impacted.

Flame Tree Brachychiton acerifolius Illawarra flame tree

This large deciduous tree is native to tropical and subtropical regions in Australia. It is found in rainforests from southern NSW to far north QLD.

Cultivated trees have a strong pyramid structure and are a mass of bright scarlet flowers over the entire tree in November.

It is a popular tree for streets, parks and private gardens. The seeds and roots of young trees are

edible. Aboriginal people ate the nutritious seeds either raw or roasted. They taste rather like raw peanuts.

It is the host plant for the larvae of the pencilled blue, shining pencil-blue, common aeroplane and tailed emperor butterflies. This tree is approximately 30 years old. Trees remove C02 from the atmosphere and store it. Approximately half the dry weight of a tree is Carbon. It is estimated that this tree has stored 226 Kg of Carbon which is 975 kg of C02-e.

This tree is likely to be removed for Option B

It is the host plant for the larvae for a number of butterflies. This is a young tree

and is probably just slow in leafing up again. Trees remove C02 from the atmosphere and store it. Approximately half the dry weight of a tree is Carbon. It is estimated that this tree has stored 232 Kg of Carbon which is 851 kg of C02-e.

This tree is to be removed with Option B.

Grey Gum Eucalpytus propinqua

The Grey gum occurs through the ranges and near coastal areas from north of Gympie in QLD to the Hawkesbury River NSW and inland to Armidale NSW.

Typically, it grows to a height of 40 m so this is a fully grown Grey Gum. These trees live for over a hundred years.

Its characteristic is smooth grey or cream-coloured bark that is shed in strips.

The timber is very hard and durable,

and used in construction and for railway sleepers.

The grey-headed flying fox eats the flowers, while the leaves form a staple of the diet of koalas.

Trees remove C02 from the atmosphere and store it. Approximately half the dry weight of a tree is Carbon. It is estimated that front tree has stored 1954 Kg of Carbon which is 7165 kg of C02-e This tree is to be removed under Option C.

Moreton Bay Ash Corymbia tessellaris These trees are native to north east Australia where they grow in open forest and woodlands.

Its range is from Cape York QLD south to Kyogle in northern NSW.

The tree is recognized by its dark crocodile scale bark forming a dark stocking at the base of the tree with smooth white bark above.

Aboriginal people used this tree to treat dysentery, wounds, diarrhoea and flu.

The timber was used to make tools.

It is a relatively young Moreton Bay Ash.

Trees remove C02 from the atmosphere and store it. Approximately half the dry weight of a tree is Carbon. It is estimated that front tree has stored 702 Kg of Carbon which is 2574 kg of C02-e.

This tree will be removed under Option C.

Tuckeroo Cupaniopsis anacardioides

Tuckeroos are native to eastern and northern Australia from Seven Mile Beach, NSW to Qld. Usually it is found in rainforests on sand or near estuaries.

It is an evergreen tough hardy tree that grows to 10 m.

It makes an excellent street tree as it tolerates all soils and air pollution.

Its orange fruit attracts fig birds, olive backed orioles and pied currawongs. It is the host plant for

more than 12 butterflies.

This is a healthy mature tree. Trees remove C02 from the atmosphere and store it. Approximately half the dry weight of a tree is Carbon. It is estimated that this tree has stored 342 Kg of Carbon which is 1254 kg of C02-e This tree will be removed under Option C.
