SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR 6x6m & 4x4m INSTANT MARQUEES6x6m Instant MarqueeThe 6x6m rigs basically in the same way as the smaller units, but please bear in mind the following:

• The 6x6 is heavy - always use a trolley to move it into position. Take care when lifting or moving it• Use a crew of min 4 people to open it out. Lift the bottom scissor frames at the intermediate legs to open to 75%.• Get under the canopy to push up each king post in turn, starting with the centre post, till it clicks into the ball pin. It is usually best to raise the king post as high as possible to give maximum tension to the canopy.• Then position one rigging tool under the centre king post while the rest of the crew help to spread the legs as far as possible. The sliders should be near the top of each leg - position the second rigging tool under the sliders then pull down on the frame to push each slider home in turn. At this stage attach all the canopy vecros to taugten the canopy and prevent puddling in heavy rain• To extend the legs, start at the downwind corner legs. Never lift the upwind legs first. Then lift the upwind corner legs before moving on to the centre legs. The best way to extend the legs is to lift the upper leg in one hand, and pull down the lower leg with the other. It is NOT a good idea to stand on the foot because of the angle change when lifting. • Because of its large surface area it is even more important than usual to secure the unit properly in windy conditions. Always attach the ratchet straps to the scissor frames - NOT the canopy. Use 1 strap at each leg. • If using weights on hard ground, base bars should be used to secure all sidewalls except the open section.• NOTE: When de-rigging, the king posts MUST be lowered and canopy velcros released before folding the frame in

4x4m Instant MarqueeAll the same procedures apply to the 4x4m Instant Marquee, except that it only has one king post and 4 legs. DERIGGING - this procedure is basically the reverse of the rigging procedure1. Remove sidewalls and fold. With 2 people, it should be possible to keep the walls off the ground when folding, to keep them clean. 2. Release canopy velcros. NOTE : Frame cannot be lowered with velcros attached.3. Remove base bars where applicable4. Remove weights or ratchet straps as applicable5. Lower legs. In-to-wind legs must be lowered first, or there is a risk the tent will blow away and cause damage or injury6. Release sliders. Push scissor frame up slightly to remove load from ball pin during this exercise7. Fold marquee in by having 2 persons opposite each other lifting and pushing on top centre V struts. Take car not to catch footplate

CAUTION!1. Exercise extreme care in windy conditions. Have extra persons on hand to prevent marquee blowing away.2. Keep limbs clear of frame parts during rigging and de-rigging.3. Only lift 1 part (15kgs) of the weights at one time. Follow H&S lifting guidelines.4. Observe Instant Marquees’ wind & weather guidelines.5. Never store the marquee or walls in the covers if wet. Allow to dry fully before putting in bags or mildew will result. WEATHER LIMITATIONSInstant Marquees are temporary structures for use in fair weather, and should not be used in extreme weather conditions. It is the responsibility of the user to ensure that the unit(s) is taken down if the wind speed exceeds the recommended limits. It is a good idea to check the Met Office or BBC wind forecast before and during events to ensure the wind limits are respected. An outline of the recommended limits is as follows:

Soft ground Max 30mph This assumes properly guyed units with heavy duty pegsHard ground Max 15mph This assumes one 30kgs weight per leg and use of base barsWARNING! Ignoring these limits could result damage to the marquee, and injury or death to persons

In the event of torrential rain the canopy velcros must be fully tightened. The user should also regularly check that the canopy does not “puddle”; puddling can seriously damage both the canopy and the frame.

WARNINGSIt is the responsibilty of the user to check that:1. The site is suitable for marquee erection and free of low-level overhead cables, underground pipes & cables etc2. The marquee is only erected in fair weather conditions (see above)3. Enough suitably qualified persons are on hand to assist with setting up in windy conditions4. The marquee is suitably guyed or weighted at all times for the prevailing conditions5. Failure to comply with these warnings may result in damage and/or injury
