PORTFOLIO

This project documents a journey from the South East coast of England to the North East - Camber Sands to Seahouses. Over a journey of more than three hundred miles, I sought to convey how the concept of the ‘North-South divide’ exists only in our minds; the land, the coast, the country is nothing more than a glorious geological structure. The divide is what we make it.

COAST01

This was a collaboration project between myself and an illustration student, entitled ‘Down and Out in Newcastle and Sunderland’. Images were created using a mixture of photography, observational drawing, and digital illustration. The top image was my submission, featuring an old man I had spent time drawing. Below are two of my photographs from the project.

DOWN & OUT02

Originally drawn as part of a series of bird characters for a book of made up “facts” in a second year university project, this Hitler bird didn’t quite fit in, and had to be cut from the final piece. Hand drawn and digitally coloured., he’s my favourite bird. The birds below him did make the final cut, and were created in the same way.

MEIN BIRD03

During my second year at university I was elected Student Experience Officer. This was my campaign poster featuring another hand drawn, digitally coloured bird.

CAMPAIGN POSTER04

The aim of this project was to produce an image based on an area of London. I chose Covent Garden, and spent a day there collecting photographs and ephemera. This piece was inspired by the market and the Italian history of the area. It takes colours and textures found on the day, and acknowledges decorative features of the architecture. Below is a section of a pge from my project sketchbook.

GRAZIE05

My self-written Minor Project was focused on classic cinema. I created a series of posters to advertise a selection of films in a minimalistic style. They were intended for an independent cinema in Newcastle - the Tyneside Cinema. Along with the posters I produced postcards, badges, stickers and promotional cards. The selection opposite depicts Goodfellas, Jaws, The Wizard of Oz, The Shawshank Redemption, and 2001: A Space Odyssey, as well as a Tyneside Cinema logo.

CLASSIC FILM06

My Final Major Project at university was based around a brand of tea called ‘Rosie Lee’. For this I created a brand identity, a range of packaging, and a series of promotional and gift items. My end products were largely created digitally, but did also involve traditional practices, such as screen printing.
