What is a Zentangle? • Zentangles are miniature pieces of unplanned, abstract, black and

white art created through very simple, structured patterns called “Tangles”.

• The process of creating a Zentangle is a form of “artistic meditation” as one becomes completely engrossed in making each pattern, otherwise known as being in the “Zen”.

• The creativity options and pattern combinations are boundless. And anyone can do it!

How to Create a Zentangle • You can make up any repetitive pattern on your own, or look at

a variety of Patterns already created. (Some will be provided to you)

• Watch the tutorial below to see some examples of patterns you can use.

ZENTANGLE PORTFOLIO PROJECT

Now let’s look at your

Step 1: Position your initials onto your portfolio. (In Landscape orientation)

Step 2: Trace your letters in PENCIL.

Step 3: Outline the letters using a Sharpie marker Regular, fine tip size, BLACK only!

Use a ruler for straight edges

Step 4: Using a PENCIL, divide the inside of each letter into sections. Any size or shape.

Step 5: Using the Ultra Fine marker, start filling in each section with a Zentangle pattern…

And keep filling in……

And keep filling in……Make sure you don’t repeat a pattern within a letter!!

Step 6: Keep going until your letters are all filled in! Now you can admire your work!!

How will your Project be marked? • Both letters are completely filled with zentangles. (At least 5 per

letter) • There are no repetition of pattern within a letter • There is a variety of Zentangle VALUES (some dark, medium,

light) • Overall neatness and care taken with work
