UNCOMMON VENUES

Getting your work out there for other people to see is one of the most important things you can do as an artist. Not a web person? Don’t have a big budge to hire someone? Need a portfolio that’s super easy to maintain that you can build on the fly? Want something a bit more custom? From the most simple drag, drop, and post portfolio services to sites that allow you to go full custom this list has got you covered.

While these may not be the first places you think of as a creative to show off some of your stuff, both Instagram and Tumblr are gaining popularity to get your work out there. They’re easy to use and act more like a record of all of your work versus a polished portfolio site, and are especially good if you do a large volume of work, like dailies. Here’s a couple of examples of artists using these sites to their fullest potential.

You’ll have to be invited post on Dribbble by another user to participate, but this platform is gaining popularity every day and is free to join to check out others work.

Cargo is another popular website building tool for creatives that aren’t into web. It’s very easy to use, and won’t cost an arm and a leg.

Behance.net is in the Adobe Network and totally free if you have a creative cloud subscription. It’s also easy to use and keep up to date.

Squarespace is another popular option with a lot of templates to make portfolio building easy. You can also do quite a bit of customization with their tools.

If you use Behance and have a Creative Cloud Subscription, Adobe Portfolio comes bundled in with that subscription. This is a great way to get a portfolio up and running quick.

Wordpress is great for those who want to go full custom. School of Motion is built on Wordpress, but we have a web team to help us with that. They also have plenty of templates to get you started.
