For most people, renting a car won’t be necessary unless you’re traveling with a large group or exploring outside the city. Portland MAX light rail provides travel from PDX to hotels. International Rose Garden (NW) - http://www.rosegardenstore.org/rose-gardens.cfm Portland is “The City of Roses”. You can visit this garden free of charge. It’s the oldest public rose test garden in the country. There are over 7,000 rose plants to enjoy and on clear days you can see Mount Hood. It’s in Washington Park across from the Japanese Garden (also a great garden to visit).

Portland Japanese Garden (NW) - www.japanesegarden.com/ One of the best Japanese gardens outside of Japan. Alphabet District Food & Shops (NW) - https://en.wikipedia.org Close to the Rose Garden & Japanese Garden, 23rd Street in Northwest Portland has food and shops. Must-visit foodie stops include Salt & Straw ice cream, Blue Star Doughnuts. There are also great cafes and restaurants between 23rd and 21st Streets, including Pope House, Thai Bloom, and Mango’s Italian. Pearl District Food & Shops (NW) - www.explorethepearl.com This is our neighborhood! There are tons of restaurants, breweries and shops to browse. Our favs: Isabel's for brunch or dinner, Verde for Mexican, Deschutes or Rogue for beer tastings, LoveJoy Bakers for breakfast and dog watching, and Bridgeport Brewery for a casual dinner and beer. Lan Su Chinese Garden (SW downtown) - www.lansugarden.org/ One of the most authentic Chinese gardens in the US. Tour the tea house and take in over 30,000 plants. Portland Saturday + Sunday Market (SW downtown) - http://www.portlandsaturdaymarket.com/ This open-air Portland Market has more than 250 booths selling jewelry, art, clothing, houseware items. There are food carts and stations including the Rogue beer garden and the Alexis Gyro stand. It’s in Old Town / Chinatown along the water on Sat 10-5 + Sun 11-4:30.

Bridges (between East & West Portland) - https://en.wikipedia.org 12 beautiful and unique bridges run down the center of the city. Punch Bowl Social (SW downtown) - www.punchbowlsocial.com/location/portland This is a fun place to stop if you’re looking for an activity. They serve local brews, a variety of punches, and gastropub food. Plus you can rent games like bowling, shuffleboard, or ping pong.

Powells Books (NW) - www.powells.com Gigantic and popular book store with multiple levels and a not-to-miss rare books room on the top floor.

Oregon Wine Country (40 min outside the city) - www.oregonwinecountry.org The Willamette Valley is famous for Pinot Noir. You can rent a car or find a tour group.

Mt Hood Adventure Park (90 min outside the city) - http://www.skibowl.com/summer/mt-hood-activities In the Summer, this ski resort turns into a day-long adventure park for couples and families. There are 20 outdoor attractions include zip lining, alpine slides, bungee jumping, mini golf and more.

Voodoo Doughnuts (downtown waterfront) - www.voodoodoughnut.com Patrick’s favorite doughnut shop. The original “voodoo” doughnut is filled with red raspberry jelly and stabbed with a pretzel stick. It’s cash-only and during popular times there is a line out front.

Blue Star Doughnuts (NE, NW, downtown) - www.bluestardonuts.com Jenna’s favorite doughnut shop. Gourmet cake-like doughnuts include Cointreau Creme Brulee, Lemon Poppy Seed, Raspberry Rosemary and Blueberry Bourbon Basil. Doughnuts sell out in the early afternoon.

Salt & Straw Ice Cream (NE, SE, NW) - www.saltandstraw.com Adventurous ice cream flavors include Chocolate Caramel Potato Chip Cupcake, Pear & Blue Cheese, Cinnamon Snickerdoodle, Chocolate Gooey Brownie and Almond Brittle with Salted Ganache. Worth the line.

Commons Brewery (SE) - www.commonsbrewery.com One of our favorite weekend afternoon breweries. They serve French farmhouse-style ales and saisons. Attached to the brewery is a charcuterie and sandwich shop where you can score an Italian grinder or brie and pear melt.

Rogue Public House Brewery (SE, NW, PDX) - www.rogue.com/roguemeetinghalls Rogue serves typical bar food and offers great beer samples. Flavors include Chocolate Stout, Chipotle Ale, Dead Guy Ale, Hazelnut Brown Nectar and Smoke Ale.
