EPICS is a community service learning program that connects interdisciplinary teams of students with a community in need of some type of assistance; EPICS teams then work on a project to meet that need. Some of the EPICS projects have strong sustainability themes. The picture on this flyer is for a series of solar panels developed for a house. Every semester EPICS teams have design reviews. Graduate students are uniquely positioned to offer feedback from a variety of perspectives given their specialized training; thus Advancement works to recruit graduate students for EPICS.

Sustainability Garden - Advancement is currently reaching out to some different partners to gauge the interest in building a sustainability garden at a local elementary or middle schools. The goal of a sustainability garden is to have the students tend to the garden to learn about sustainability and care-taking with the natural environment. Right now this project is in preliminary planning stages, we are seeking out a partner to work with to install the garden on site, with assistance from PULSe Science in Schools Office.

ESE Keystone Lecture series is an annual series of interdisciplinary panels about some contemporary environmental issue hosted by the Ecological Sciences and Engineering (ESE) department graduate students. The talks bring together panelist from the academy, policy-makers, industry and others to discuss the scientific, social, environmental, political and economic aspects of an issue. This year the topic is hydrological fracturing or as it is popularly known 'fracking.' Part of Advancement's budget is dedicated to providing funds to bring one of the panelist to Purdue. Advancement also sends a representative to ESE's meetings to help organize the event.
