Preface
For the last 25 years, I have been reading about Positive
Thinking and Positive Attitude and have passionately lived
each day of my life positively. I have experienced the power
of Positive Thinking and have understood how thought can
control actions, reactions and feelings. Although I have
acutely felt the power of positivity, I initially did not
understand the nature of this power where it came from and
how exactly it worked, and I kept wondering how it could be
understood.
We all know that it is great to be positive, but we cannot
control our thoughts at all times. Thus, a meaningful
question arises can we think positively all the time?
I remember the times when I wanted to be positive but
couldn't be due to some reason; my mind would just wander
toward thinking negatively. However, reading books on
positive thinking, using the power of positive self-
suggestions and various other triggers finally built positive
i
-
energy in me. But despite these efforts, I felt that something was
missing in my understanding of positive behavior and the negative
forces that worked against it. I kept asking myself:
Where does this positive energy come from?
Are people born positive? Is it in their genes?
Why are some people so full of positive energy while others
emit fumes of negativity all the time?
What controls the mind?
What controls our actions and reactions?
These questions have been active in my subconscious for the last
two decades and my curiosity has led me to read up more on the
nature and power of thought.
Finally, I discovered a secret that provided answers to all the above
questions, and I call it PEP Positive Energy Power. The
acronym itself denotes energy, but one has to read this book to
appreciate its use and understand how to remain positive all the
time. Once you understand it, you will be able to influence your
ii
-
thoughts, take charge of your actions, control your reactions, be a
master of your feelings and live a life of your choice. You will be
able to flip over from negativity to positivity.
When you choose positive energy in your life, all the negativity will
disappear because it will be replaced by the power of positivity. Just
as a coin can be flipped over from heads to tails, your thoughts,
feelings and actions too can be easily flipped over with a few simple
decisions and choices. You will be able to distinguish between
thoughts, attitudes, feelings and actions, and this will help you take
charge of your life.
The power of positivity, although a simple concept, has not been
clearly defined and explained previously. It has often been
presented mysteriously. Writers, philosophers and thinkers have
always urged us to Think positively, but have failed to explain
how to think positively always. Authors have emphasized the
power of thought, but have not explained the way in which thought
can be controlled. Aspirants of positive thinking, like me, have
often tried in vain to be directly in command of thoughts, but to no
avail.

This book, Power Your Life with PEP is written to bust several
myths about Positive Thinking. It will help you discover the power
of positivity that will eventually transform your life. It will serve as
a guide for you to take care of your thought and life.
I believe that life comes to us only once and that if we fill it with
negativity, we will lose this valuable gift of life in misery. One can
choose positivity and live positively every moment and every day
or one can choose negativity! It is not something magical, but a
practical choice that one needs to make.
Once you understand the concept of PEP, you will realize how
simple life can be. PEP will fill your life with excitement and
enthusiasm like never before! And that's guaranteed. So let's begin
the journey then... and flip over from negativity to positivity!

1Chapter 1
Understanding Thought and the Mind
Thoughts:
-
What are
The word thought originates from Old English. It means to
conceive of in the mind or to consider, and it refers to an
intellectual or mental activity. Thoughts are impulses that are
broadcast from the mind.
A thought is like an electrical vibration that is produced in our mind
and leads us to feel and then act. A thought happens by itself and is
something beyond our control. It is produced by the mind that acts
as a machine, which I would like to refer to as the Thought
Factory.
Everybody has a Thought Factory. This factory manufactures
thoughts, both positive and negative: thoughts of love, hope,
courage and compassion as well as thoughts of hate, fear, worry and
jealousy. Is it possible to enter this Thought Factory and program it
to produce positive thoughts? Do we have a direct command over
our mind? Unfortunately, we don't! Science is yet to invent a
machine or a medication that can consistently create positive
thoughts. Yet, some people always think positively, while others are

2
Thoughts?
-
filled with negative thoughts. What makes these positive thinkers
always think ever-positive thoughts?
Undoubtedly, it has to do with the Thought Factory that produces
thought. By taking charge of the Thought Factory, we can take
charge of the thoughts it produces. But how does one do that and
think positively all the time? Over the years, philosophers and
authors have optimistically recommended the Think positive
mantra. However, when one is surrounded by negative
circumstances, how can one think positively? The thought process
becomes involuntary, and like impulsive reactions, the mind begins
to emit negative thoughts. Thus, it is very important to understand
the nature and origin of thought.
Where do thoughts come from?
While it may seem that thoughts originate from nowhere, they are
actually born in the mind. Before we understand how we can
control our thought, let us first understand the link between the
mind and the body. The mind perceives or senses the objects of
perception through the sense organs. When the body sees, smells,
tastes, hears and touches, the sense organs trigger thought in the
mind.
3
Thoughts
-
For instance, I see an apple and feel hungry. I smell something
burning and panic. I hear my favorite song and feel like dancing. I
feel the cold breeze and feel like I am in the mountains. I touch
currency notes and feel rich! Thus, whenever our sense organs are
exposed to something, thought is created. This thought leads us to
feel and then act.
We are essentially emotional beings because we are able to feel, and
we do so consistently and naturally at all the phases of our life.

2. Hearing

However, does this mean that we give in to the demands of our
sense organs completely? For instance, I see apples and feel hungry.
But do I eat all the apples? Let's consider another example, I see a
beautiful car that does not belong to me and develop a desire to
drive it. Do I break open the door and zoom away? No, I don't. The
question that now arises is what controls or influences the sense
organs? Our intellect does. My intellect counsels me that the car is
somebody else's and my desire to zoom away with it is unethical. In
such situations, the intellect creates further thoughts and feelings.
Hence, there is an aspect within us that regulates, controls and
influences the sense organs: our intellect.
The mind is known to think, but the deeper question is how does it
choose its thoughts? How does it decide whether it should give in to
the demands of the senses, allow the intellect to govern or allow
something else to take over?
To seek an answer to these questions, let us attempt to understand
the mind. Our mind is structured in layers. These layers can be
differentiated into three: the conscious, the subconscious and the
superconscious.
5
Thoughts
-
Most of us are fully aware of the power of the conscious mind alone.
However, it is only the tip of the iceberg. A few people realize and
actualize the power of the subconscious mind, but the power of the
superconscious mind continues to remain a mystery. The conscious
mind is the active mind that is alive and thinks from moment to
moment. When we sleep, the conscious mind goes to rest and we are
said to be in an unconscious state.
The subconscious is awake even when we sleep. It is a storehouse of
all the information processed by the mind during the day. Pictures,
sounds, feelings and circumstances, amongst other things, get
automatically stored in the memory of the subconscious mind. We
may not consciously register certain things, but the subconscious
mind grasps and registers all these things in detail, which are
otherwise invisible to the conscious mind. Thus, it is very powerful.

7The superconscious mind is that domain of the mind which is
responsible for intuition, sixth sense, creativity, hunches,
imagination and telepathy. It functions as a powerful receiver and
transmitter of thoughts from and into the Universe. While the study
of the power of the superconscious is still in its infancy, the
superconscious mind is said to have tremendous powers, yet
unknown to man, but capable of strengthening both the conscious
and subconscious mind, ultimately making man a genius.
We now know that the mind is a combination of the conscious,
subconscious and superconscious. We also know that thoughts are
constantly produced in the mind, the Thought Factory. Before we
can take charge of our mind and the thought it produces, we must
understand how the mind is formed.
Let us imagine the mind of a newborn child. Is the newborn already
full of thoughts and habits? Does it have a character or is its mind
like an empty board spotless without thoughts? A newborn lacks
thoughts, habits or character; therefore, it is obvious that the
newborn's mind is empty. Then, how does a newborn's mind
develop thoughts, feelings and habits?

Each newborn is naturally born with the five sense organs, that is,
sight, smell, hearing, taste and touch. These sense organs trigger the
mind when they come in contact with any stimulus. The conscious
mind of a young child will react while the subconscious mind will
register and memorize all that it hears, sees and feels. A child that
grows up in an environment of anger and violence, where the
parents are screaming and fighting most of the time, develops a
mind filled with negative emotions like anger, hatred and tension.
Whereas, a child that grows up in a nurturing environment of love
and understanding develops an uncomplicated mind that eventually
-
leads to positive personality traits and emotions. The subconscious
mind of an infant is believed to be more dominant until the
conscious mind develops adequately.
There is a global debate on the influence of nature vs. nurture. The
question debated is, Is a child's life capable of being nurtured or are
a child's genes preset by nature and incapable of being molded and
changed? Scientists, philosophers and doctors have more or less
agreed that while a child's genes determine its physical appearance
and health, the genes do not influence the child's thoughts, habits
and character. Upon further study, they have realized that the
subconscious mind of a young child will definitely absorb whatever
it sees, hears and feels, and this will influence the child's character
as it grows up. However, if the same child was brought up in a
different environment, the subconscious mind of the child would
absorb a different character and culture the one that it is exposed
to. This has, by and large, laid to rest the debate on the role of nature
and genes in influencing the mind and thoughts of a child.
The mind is born with empty thoughts like a blank slate. Every
impression influences the conscious mind and is registered in the
9

subconscious mind, leading to the formation of our character. Thus,
a large part of a child's mind and character is formed during its
youthful years.
If a mind is already formed and if its character is already set, can it
be changed? The good news is that the mind of a child is still in the
process of formation and is capable of being molded as the child
matures into a teenager and an adult. The experiences of a
youngster growing into an adult are instrumental in creating its
character. Once the mind is formed, it can be visualized as
constructed in cement, stone and steel, difficult to break and
change. This realization gives further hope and possibility for an
individual to take charge of their mind, thought and life.
As the mind grows, various constituents are responsible for its final
formation. The five sense organs, of course, respond consciously to
the stimuli, creating impressions on the subconscious mind. The
subconscious mind absorbs impressions from the environment and
helps build the structure of the mind. As an individual grows up, the
mind thinks, leading to feelings and actions. These repeated actions
become habits, and they further influence the mind. The mind, by
10
-
its nature, reacts and responds. These behaviors also influence the
thought that the mind produces through the Thought Factory.
Since the mind has so many sources that influence the thought it
produces, is it possible at all for us to control our thoughts? Is there a
way to strategically build a mind of our choice or does our mind
evolve on its own as we grow up? Is it possible to take charge of our
mind, our Thought Factory and thus our thought; or is this beyond
our control? Since circumstances influence our habits, do we
become creatures of our habits and thoughts, or is there a way to
take charge of our habits and thus our mind and thoughts?
Since our mind is already conditioned to react in a particular way, is
it possible to control our reactions and responses or is our behavior
involuntary, based on the state of our mind? Is the mind so deep-
rooted that its shoots and roots are predetermined? Has our
childhood crystallized our mind into a character that is irreversible
or is there a way to change? Is the mind already programmed
permanently or can it be reprogrammed to think the way we want it
to?
11
Thoughts
-
Power Your Life with PEP
While it seems possible for a mind to change its thought patterns,
we haven't scientifically studied how to do it. We spend much time,
money and energy learning to program and reprogram our
computers, but we are yet to discover how to perfectly program our
mind to think positively all the time. I believe it is possible to
reverse the conditionings of our childhood! But unfortunately,
science has not invented a device to directly reprogram the mind to
think positively. If such a machine were invented, it would be a
global best-seller; one could plug into it and be able to think
positively all the time!
However, while there is no such device to directly control the mind
and thus the thoughts, there is definitely a way to influence the mind
and take charge of our thoughts and hence our life. If only we learnt
how the mind functions and how we can program and reprogram it
to think the way we want, we would be able to control our feelings,
our actions, our habits and our destiny! Let us understand how this
is possible by understanding what I call The Thought Chain,
discussed in Chapter 2.
12
-
13
Chapter 2
The Thought Chain
-
Science has shown that thoughts are electrical vibrations and that
they have power. They are a source of energy that lead to feelings
and actions. They can make us happy or sad. Thoughts create
beliefs and habits that strongly influence all our choices in life,
which ultimately create our destiny.
Something as simple as a thought is actually amongst the most
important ingredients of our life. James Allen, acclaimed to be the
founder of Positive Thinking, wrote, As a man thinketh, so is he.
Norman Vincent Peale, known as the Father of Positive Thinking,
elaborated on the power of Positive Thinking and its impact on
human life. He said, When I get up in the morning, I have two
choices either to be happy or unhappy, and what do you think I do?
I just choose to be happy, and that's all there is to it. Henry Ford
said, Whether you think you can or can't, you are right. Many
successful people have, through a study of their experiences,
vouched for the amazing potential and the power of thought.
Is there any doubt about the power of thought? Ask someone who
has used creative thinking, intuition and imagination to create
dreams. I have done it, and these inspirational thoughts have not
just created my dreams but have also pushed them into becoming a

14
-
reality. Not just once, but every time a creative thought has
crystallized into a powerful dream, success followed.
While there is no doubt about the power of thought and its
connection with feelings, actions, habits, character and destiny, one
must understand the role of thought in the Thought Chain before
one can take charge of their own thought and life. As we grew up,
we may have pondered over things like what came first - the
chicken or the egg. But we may not have bothered to study the chain
that rules our life. We know that there is a connection between
thought, feelings and actions. But what creates thought? What
controls our feelings? What leads us to act? Where does this chain
start from and where does it end? If only we discover the source of
this chain or the life chain, so to speak, we could take charge of
our destiny by controlling our thought!
The Thought Chain
The Thought Chain begins with a thought that leads to feelings. If
the mind thinks of a happy thought, we feel happy. In the Thought
Chain, therefore, feelings follow thought. Some people however
question this. In their view, while a happy thought may lead to a
happy feeling, they believe that a happy feeling creates a happy
thought, and hence, feelings don't follow a thought, but precede it.
15
The Thought Chain
-
While their argument is correct, a simple logic puts thoughts before
feelings in the Thought Chain. This logic pertains to the nature of
thoughts, that is, if there were no thoughts in the mind, there would
be no feelings. Thus, all feelings are created by the electrical
vibrations produced by thoughts. Science has also shown that
failure in the functioning of the mind directly results in the absence
of the corresponding feelings. Thus, while feelings do influence
thoughts, the rightful link in the Thought Chain is that of thoughts
preceding feelings.
Just as thoughts produce feelings, what do feelings produce?
Feelings produce actions. A happy thought leads to a happy feeling,
which in turn leads to happy actions. The Thought Chain has three
links in it so far. Again, some people are of the opinion that actions
lead to feelings. Some philosophers have prescribed that if you
want to feel happy, you should act happy. They are absolutely right
because, if you dance, this happy action will make you feel happier.
Power Your Life with PEP
16
THOUGHT FEELINGS
-
We now have thoughts, feelings and actions in the Thought Chain.
The next link is habit. Repeated actions create habits and this forms
the fourth link in the Thought Chain. While most people agree, a
few have a different but valid argument: Aren't habits responsible
for creating actions? If one had the habit of becoming angry, then
one's actions would be full of anger. Therefore, should not habits
precede actions in the Thought Chain? Before delving into this
further, we need to know where habits come from? None of us is
born with habits. Our repeated actions result in forming habits.
Thus, while habits do influence actions, habits are actually formed
from actions, and they follow actions in the Thought Chain.
17
FEELINGSTHOUGHTACTION
However, while this is true, I believe actions follow and not precede
feelings in the Thought Chain. This is because if there are no
feelings, there would be no actions. Just imagine, is it possible for
you to dance joyously without actually feeling like dancing from
within? Certainly not! Thus, feelings lead to actions.
The Thought Chain

CHARACTER
HABITS
FEELINGSTHOUGHTACTION
HABITS
The Thought Chain now has thoughts, feelings, actions and habits.
The next link in the chain is character. Repeated habits build our
character. While an individual's character may create habits, it is
actually habits that form one's character in the first place; therefore,
in its rightful order, character follows habits in the Thought Chain.
-
Finally, the last link in the Thought Chain is our destiny or life. Are
we born with a predestined life or is our life in our hands?
Philosophically, we may have several answers for this. But
practically, we all know that we create our own destiny. Therefore,
the important question is does our destiny create our character or
does our character lead us to our destiny? If you read the
autobiographies of great men and women in the world, you will
discover that many of them were born in ordinary families. Some
did not receive any formal education, yet they worked their way to
the top and became successful. They weren't born successful, but
something made them successful. Their success didn't happen
entirely by chance. It was more a result of their hard work and the
choices they made. More importantly, it was their actions, habits
and character that led them to their destiny.
We now have a clear picture of the Thought Chain. Thoughts create
feelings, feelings create actions, actions create habits, habits create
character, and character leads us to our destiny or life. Therefore, to
take charge of our destiny and life, we need to take charge of our
19

thought. But the big question is, how can one take charge of their
own thought? The next chapter provides an answer to this question
by revealing the raw material that manufactures thought.

Raw Material for Thought
Attitude:
-
22
Although we have reviewed thought and the mind and have
understood that thoughts lead to feelings, actions, habits, character
and our destiny, we are yet to understand how thoughts are
produced in the mind.
Earlier we discussed that the mind is like a Thought Factory. This
factory keeps producing thoughts but we have no direct control
over it. However, the factory needs a raw material to produce its
product Thoughts.
In any production unit, the quality of the finished product depends
on the quality of the raw material. Likewise, in the Thought Factory
too, the quality of thought depends on the quality of ATTITUDE
that we supply to our mind, as raw material. So, let us understand
how attitude becomes the raw material for producing thoughts.
THOUGHT FACTORY

Attitude Thought
Power Your Life with PEP
-
What is
Attitude is the way in which we react, respond and behave. It is a
physical and mental response. The response may be due to our
thoughts, actions, feelings, emotions, others' actions or
circumstances. Our attitude can be either Positive or Negative.
Every day and most of the time, we react and respond to things
happening around us and within us. We react to our own thoughts as
well as to others' actions; this is expressed in our behavior. We react
to circumstances, and in fact, we are actually reacting to life.
Therefore, we are constantly thinking, feeling, acting or responding
with our attitude. While we cannot directly control our thought and
the feelings and actions they produce, we have command over our
attitude.
As we are responding and reacting every day, the conscious mind is
either thinking and following the subsequent links that is, feeling
and acting in the Thought Chain or it is reacting and responding to
somebody elses thoughts or actions. Sometimes, the conscious
mind is reacting to our own moods, beliefs or habits.
23

Attitude
-
Our mood is our state of mind. The mind may be in a good mood or
bad mood, happy mood or sad mood. We thus understand that the
mood of the mind depends upon the kind of emotions that we have
currently chosen to live with. If we choose positive emotions, the
mind is in a positive mood, but when we live with negative
emotions, our mood or state of mind becomes negative. Thus, you
will notice that even though something negative happens, a person
in a good mood reacts positively, while the opposite is also true. A
person in a bad mood will react negatively even in the best of
circumstances.

24
Positive Emotions Positive Mood Positive Reactions
Our mind also reacts to our beliefs. What are beliefs? Over the
years, we are exposed to certain patterns of living and we tend to
-
believe in some of these. These beliefs become our philosophy, our
way of life, our ethos and even our life's constitution. These beliefs
are formed by repeated thoughts or observations, and they stand
like iron pillars in the mind. Therefore, although a particular
circumstance deserves a type of reaction, our mind reacts
differently depending on the beliefs it is attached to. This may not
be logical, but the mind still reacts that way because it believes in
something and its response is based on this belief.
Every time we react, we are choosing a behavior that is depositing a
raw material in the mind to produce a thought. Suppose, we see
somebody doing something that is not as per our expectations, then
it creates an intense disappointment or a feeling of hatred or dislike,
which makes us react nastily and develop a negative attitude. This
negative attitude acts as a raw material and directly influences the
mind to produce a corresponding negative thought and thereafter a
negative feeling and action. However, if we have the willpower to
control our attitude and understand the other person's action, we
will choose to react with patience and compassion. This positive

attitude or reaction to the exact same situation deposits a positive
raw material in the mind that leads to a corresponding positive
feeling and action. Therefore, the type of attitude we choose, either
positive or negative, becomes the raw material for the mind and
produces the corresponding positive or negative thought,
respectively.

What is Habit?
The dictionary defines a habit as a recurrent, often unconscious
pattern of behavior that is acquired through frequent repetition.
Habits are behaviors formed by an individual from repetitive

repeat our attitude, the consistent reactions not only act as raw

actions, reactions, thoughts and feelings that have become the very
essence of a person's life. As are one's habits, so are one's thoughts
and actions. Hence the saying Change your habits to change your
life. Once cultivated, habits are rock-like and difficult to break.
Once we form a habit, the habit in turn forms our life.
How are habits formed?
We are not born with habits. Instead, we grow up forming habits
depending on the environment and surroundings we live in. Our
mind is empty at birth. Once the subconscious mind is formed, it
triggers thoughts, which in turn, lead to feelings and actions. These
actions when performed repetitively get established in the
subconscious mind as a habit. The act of repetition influences the
subconscious mind and leads to the creation of habits.
Habits are created not only by repetitive actions but also by
repetitive reactions expressed in our attitude, behavior and
responses as they crystallize in our mind bit by bit. Each time we
react, not only does the mind get triggered to think a corresponding

29
thought, but also the reaction deposits in the mind an emotion,
finally creating a strong habit.
Habits, once formed, become the pillars of our life. They take
charge of our mind and thoughts, our feelings and emotions, our
attitude and reactions. In fact, habits are responsible for everything
we do in life because our life gets programmed for living in a
particular way depending on the habits we have cultivated. The
foundation of our entire personality, sometimes understood as
character, is based on the habits we form. We think, act and react
with this personality or character until we decide to change.
As a person grows, the mind becomes stronger and stronger with
stronger habits, thoughts, feelings and convictions. Parents,
teachers and mentors influence a child's character as it grows from
an infant to an adult.
Can habits be changed?
Habits take charge of our mind. They become the directors of the
Thought Factory and make it produce their kind of thoughts.
-
Power Your Life with PEP
Positive habits, on the one hand, take charge of our mind to produce
positive thoughts, which then lead to positive feelings and actions.
On the other hand, negative habits will influence the thought
factory to produce negative thoughts. These in turn lead to negative
feelings and negative actions.
To view the process more practically, let us reflect upon our habits.
Many of us may develop the habit of reacting with anger. The habit
of anger will create angry thoughts and will lead us to feel angry and
frustrated. The frustration then becomes a habit and constantly
creates thoughts of anger and frustration. This negative circle will
continue with each negative thought, feeling and action adding a
layer to the habit, thus making it stronger.
Positive or negative habits and traits define ones personality or
character. However, it doesn't mean that if these habits happen to be
negative ones, they cannot be changed.
We can compare a habit to a thick cable made up of several thin
wires that are twisted together. Similarly, a strong habit can be
perceived to result from the cumulative formation of several

actions, reactions, thoughts and feelings that come together. A thick
cable, which is hard to break, can be easily undone wire by wire;
likewise, strong habits can also be broken by dissolving or
changing, one by one, the actions, reactions, thoughts and feelings
that comprise the habit.
Another way to view a habit is to visualize it as the long hair of a
woman. Each action, reaction, thought or feeling is just like one
strand of hair. By itself, it can just be plucked off effortlessly, and it
will easily break away from the scalp. However, just try to hold the
entire plait of hair and pull it from the scalp. It is impossible to break
it free. Habits also behave in the same way.
The only way to change a habit is by dissolving it thought by
thought, feeling by feeling and action by action. And since we
cannot control our thoughts that lead to feelings and actions, we
should control our attitude that leads to our responses and reactions
and influences our thoughts. Is this a lengthy process? Not really.
Changing all negative habits into positive ones may take some time,
Attitude
-

but the change starts the moment we make the decision or the choice
to respond with a positive attitude. The moment we start responding
positively, we start destroying the negative habits. Slowly, but
surely we will change the negative elements in our life to more
positive ones because attitude is a matter of choice.
While moods, beliefs and habits influence our attitude, what is it
that actually controls our attitude?
Our WILL plays a vital role in our choosing our attitude positive
or negative. A waiter in a restaurant may accidently spill water on
us. However, our willpower actually decides whether to react with
anger or forgive him. Therefore, the mind also develops a power,
called willpower, which is responsible for the choice of attitude and
thereafter thought.
At this point, we have discovered several things. So let's sum it up.
We have discovered that thoughts lead us to our destiny through
feelings, actions, habit and character. We have understood the mind
and how it produces thought. We have realized that attitude is the
32
-
raw material that produces thought. In addition, habits also
crystallize in the mind to produce thoughts. The will helps the mind
to choose an attitude that triggers thought and thus influences our
feelings, actions and finally destiny. Moods and beliefs also
influence our attitude, but finally, while all of these influence our
attitude, it is attitude that is the raw material that produces thought.
While we have discovered the above, we are yet to find out what
creates our attitude, and thus our thoughts, feelings, actions, habits
and destiny.
The magical ingredient that creates Attitude is our Emotion. Our
emotions can be positive or negative, and I call them PEP (Positive
Energy Power) and NEP (Negative Energy Poison), respectively.
This PEP and NEP create our Attitude, which in turn, influences our
thought that creates feelings, action, habits, character and destiny.

Chapter 4
Power Your Life with PEP
-
Although the Thought Chain is a very simple concept, people have
not understood how they can control their thoughts, feelings,
actions, reactions, moods, beliefs, will, habits, character and
destiny. All these are part of the Thought Chain, and if the first link
of this chain is positive, the entire chain becomes positive. Begin
with a negative link and you have no choice but to end with a
negative life.
What is the first link of this chain that will determine our life? What
is it that can ensure that the mind produces only positive thoughts?
We know that if the mind produces positive thoughts, then we don't
have to worry about feelings and actions. Once the mind shelters
positive habits, beliefs and will matching its positive attitude, we
can rest assured that the mind cannot be wrongly influenced by
negative attitude. This is because the source of energy for the mind
is so potent that it cannot be misdirected.
What is the original source of this energy for the mind? The energy
in the mind is not static; rather it is in a state of flux and makes the
mind active or creates motion in the mind. This same energy is
Power Your Life with PEP
38
-
responsible for our attitude and also builds our willpower and is
further responsible for crystallizing into habit through attitude.
This energy becomes the life force of the mind. Not only does it
produce the raw material that manufactures thought but also lends
an aura to the mind, which creates the mood that also leads the mind
to manufacture thought. This active energy in motion is nothing but
our EMOTIONS.
What are emotions? Emotions are those powerfully strong feelings
by which we live. They are the Energy in Motion. They are not
mere impulses that follow thoughts but are derived from certain
choices we make; these are choices that each one of us make as we
grow up. Emotions can be either positive or negative and they build
the foundation of our life. They are the source of all the factors that
influence our thoughts, feelings, actions and destiny.
As we grow up, our life is filled with emotions emotions that we
can choose and emotions that we can change at any time. We are
influenced by emotions not just as kids but also as we grow into
39
Power Your Life with PEP
-
adults. We choose our emotions till the last day of our lives. It is this
choice of emotions that controls our life's destiny.
Emotions can be positive or negative. We can choose the emotion
love, and this energy in motion will make us affectionate and will
prompt us to behave in a friendly and warm way. Alternatively, we
can choose the emotion hate, which will create unrest in our heart
and mind, creating negative feelings and thoughts. The good news
is that whether the emotion is love or hate, it is our choice. We can
choose to fill our life with love or hate. The moment we fill our life
with either of these emotions, we choose a source of energy that
creates a motion that will trigger attitude, thought, feelings and
actions.
Let us look at another choice of negative emotion over positive
emotion. When someone does something to insult us in front of
several people, we vow to take revenge, that is, we choose the
negative emotion of revenge. This emotion not only fills our
mind with poison at that instance but also leads to the production of
poisonous and toxic negative thoughts. Once the negative emotion
Power Your Life with PEP
40
-
establishes itself as a source of energy in the mind, the mind begins
to be controlled by it. In fact, we develop negative habits and a
negative mood and our positive willpower gets destroyed. Negative
thoughts are produced leading to negative feelings, actions and
destiny. Instead, if we chose forgiveness, this positive emotion
would create peace and tranquility. The mind would be at rest and
there would be no worries. Positive thoughts will be produced and
this would result in a positive destiny.
So, the good news is that we can choose emotions in our life. We can
overcome negative emotions by making a conscious choice of the
corresponding positive emotion and thus power our life with PEP.
What is PEP?
PEP is Positive Energy Power. It is a power that can lead us to a
positive destiny. It is the choice of positive emotions that can power
our life with positive energy. PEP acts as a source of energy and
nourishes the mind. PEP, which is a combination of positive
emotions, produces positive attitude that manufactures positive
thoughts that build positive habits. PEP also creates a positive mood
Power Your Life with PEP
41
-
that influences the mind to produce positive thoughts. PEP creates a
positive willpower directly and indirectly. PEP is a source that
determines a positive life. If only we understand PEP and accept it,
we would be able to think positively and live positively all the time!
Is it that simple? Yes and no! If you power your life with PEP, you
have discovered the way to a positive life. However, many of us are
unfortunate and have the presence of NEP, Negative Energy
Poison, in our life. Just as PEP can power our life, NEP can destroy
our life. It can create toxins and poisons that can devastate our life
through negative thoughts, negative feelings, negative actions,
negative habits and a negative destiny.
NEP creates a negative mood and a negative aura in the mind. It
kills the positive will that PEP creates and pushes us into the whirl
of negativity. While NEP is so powerful, what is most encouraging
and exciting is that at any given time or circumstance, we can
always change and choose PEP. Yes, you can power your life with
PEP and take charge of your thoughts and life!

Positive Energy Power
PEP:
-
Power Your Life with PEP
44
What is
PEP is an acronym for Positive Energy Power. It is the power
that comes from using positive energy to think, feel, act, respond
and behave. When one chooses to live positively with PEP, one's
life is transformed. While it sounds great to be able to live life only
with PEP, most people don't know how to make this happen. All
around us, we find a mix of both negative and positive energies.
Sometimes people and circumstances force us to respond
negatively. Then, how can we live with PEP all the time?
We cannot control others' behavior and circumstances, but we can
surely control our own reactions to these. When you choose PEP,
you are actually choosing the power of positive energy that then
helps you respond with a positive attitude toward people and
circumstances. PEP will, therefore, make you think, feel and act
positively. If you do not choose PEP, negative people or
circumstances may naturally derive a negative response from you.
But by choosing PEP, you ensure that even the negative is
confronted with the positive. Confronting the negative with the
positive brings you growth and fulfillment in the long run.
PEP?PEP?
-
PEP
45
PEP is a matter of choice. It is a way of life that only you can choose.
PEP is based on the concept of living life with positive emotions
and energy, rather than letting negative poisons consume life. When
you choose PEP, you automatically develop positive habits and
your responses will be positive. While PEP is not directly positive
thinking, a positive attitude or a positive habit, it is a power that
leads to all the three. It is a power that channelizes your life into
being positive by you making positive choices even in negative
situations.
What creates PEP?
PEP is created when one makes a conscious choice to live only with
positive emotions. Emotions are Energies in Motion that flow in our
life through our Thought Chain. The cumulative positive energy
that we choose to live by creates PEP. Once our life is full of PEP, we
become equipped to face the negative and transform our response to
positive.
PEP is a powerful force that takes charge of our attitude, thoughts,
feelings and actions. Many positive emotions cumulatively build
PEP into our life. Some of the positive emotions and attributes that
-
Power Your Life with PEP
46
can create PEP are faith, hope, love, joy, courage, confidence,
passion, inspiration, cheerfulness, compassion, optimism,
appreciation and enthusiasm. Let us understand these emotions that
create PEP.
Faith
The word faith is born from the Latin word fide. It implies
sincerity of intentions and connotes firm belief and trust. People
with faith have strong convictions and inbuilt loyalty. Faith gives
rise to courage, confidence and enthusiasm. Generally, faith is
talked of in relation to God and religion, but can be used in other
contexts too. To me, the word FAITH is best understood as an
acronym for Full Assurance In The Heart.
Faith is a positive emotion. It eliminates doubt and destroys fear. It
suppresses the negative and gives rise to all that is positive. People
with faith naturally respond positively. Their firm belief is the key
to their positive energy. Faith is the foundation of PEP. Without
faith, the negative emotion, doubt, enters our life and creates
skepticism, hesitation and indecision leading to negative reactions,
thoughts and feelings. We must carefully fill our life with faith.
-
PEP
47
Hope
What is hope? HOPE, to me, is an acronym for Having Only
Positive Expectations.
With hope, one is more confident of the future. Hope generates
belief and trust. It makes people's emotions positive and fills their
lives with positive energy. While a person without hope may react
negatively in any situation, a person with hope always responds
positively. Hope creates optimism and influences our emotions and
feelings by giving us the assurance that something positive will
definitely happen. Positive expectations make a person's attitude
positive forever. Therefore, hope is one of the most important keys
to unleash PEP.
When the positive emotion, hope, is absent, the negative emotion,
despair, creeps into our life creating a poison within. This makes us
lethargic and drains us of joy and cheer. Hence, we must choose
hope to live with PEP.
Love
Love has different meanings, but in the context of PEP it implies a
deep sense of caring and being affectionate toward others. Love
-
Power Your Life with PEP
48
builds strong relationships and carries no price tag. In its higher
form, love emerges as a positive emotion. When you love someone,
your attitude toward that person is kind, compassionate and
understanding. That is, love emits positive vibrations that ensure a
positive response toward others no matter what. Love is the energy
that lets PEP take root, bloom and spread positive radiance all
around.
Love is a positive emotion that creates PEP. Love also builds strong
and genuine relationships that can serve us in times of crisis. Love
emits positive vibrations; with love as a dominant emotion, our
thoughts, feelings, reactions and actions will always be positive.
Replace love with hate and the heart is instantly filled with a poison!
The poison initiated from hatred creates anger and hostility that
makes us react with cruelty. Hate kills kindness and mercy and
makes us brutal and ready to inflict pain on others. We are at our best
when we love and feel loved. Living a life rich with love is a wise
choice, which will fill us with PEP.
Joy
Joy is a positive emotion that fosters happiness and bliss. It is a state
of being wherein one smiles, has a twinkle in the eyes and feels the
-
PEP
49
heart dancing with excitement. One is filled with joy if one is
continuously cheerful and in good spirits.
Joy eliminates gloom and worry not only from one's life but also
from others' lives. Joyful people subconsciously develop the habit
of being positive because their feeling of cheerfulness eliminates
the possibility of being negative; they naturally respond with
optimism. When one is cheerful, one cannot be negative, just like
one cannot be crying when one is laughing and smiling. Therefore,
joy, cheerfulness, bliss and happiness are the basic ingredients of
PEP.
The absence of joy opens the door of our life to sorrow. This creates
distress and regret and leads us to a life of dullness. The body sinks
into a poisonous state as if it is stung by a reptile. Once we sink into
sorrow, we have no option but to live an unhappy life. It is wiser,
thus, to bounce back and consciously choose joy instead of sorrow
and live with PEP.
Courage
The word courage is derived from the Latin word corage, which
means heart. Over time, it has come to signify a strong heart.
People with courage have the mental and moral strength to face
-
Power Your Life with PEP
50
opposition, danger and hardship. Courageous people can overcome
any difficulty.
Those who are courageous eliminate fear from their lives and hence
are able to face dangers with a strong heart. With this state of mind,
they respond positively to all the occurrences in life. Though many
things perceived as difficult or unfair may happen to them, they
don't let those unfavorable incidents interfere with the way they
respond. Courage makes them respond positively. Courage is the
guts and the steel that forms PEP.
The opposite of courage is FEAR False Expectations
Appearing Real. This negative emotion appears because our life
doesn't have enough PEP. It creates anxiety and exaggerates our
dangers. While the dangers may not be real, fear is real. This
negative emotion both poisons and paralyzes us with the negative
energy it possesses. Fear can kill, and thus, we must always choose
courage over fear.
Confidence
Confidence is a positive emotion that quite instantly creates PEP.
Confidence is to do with belief in oneself. It is about trusting one's
-
PEP
51
own abilities. The word confidence originates from the Latin
word confidentia, which means firm trust. When one has
confidence in oneself, one is said to have self-confidence.
However, confidence, belief or trust is not something restricted to
one's self alone; it can be placed in others as well.
When one has confidence, one's responses are naturally positive
even when the situation, circumstance or person they are dealing
with is essentially negative. A person with confidence responds
positively.
Lack of confidence welcomes the negative emotion called
hesitation. Hesitation is indecision and doubt in disguise. It
corrodes faith and trust. It causes us to miss opportunities with its
toxic power. Conquer hesitation with confidence and live a life of
PEP!
Passion
Passion is the root of PEP, because it is one emotion that creates all
other strong emotions. One who is passionate can truly love, live
with faith, be inspired and can live with enthusiasm. Therefore,
passion is the root foundation of PEP. However, this positive
emotion if improperly used can lead to great disasters. For instance,
-
Power Your Life with PEP
52
when love becomes lust and inspiration becomes overconfidence, it
leads to disastrous results. If positively implemented, passion can
create the power that can fuel PEP.
Lack of passion leads one to a state of dispassion, wherein there is
no desire, no life. One who is dispassionate doesn't possess the
energy that can drive PEP forward. Slowly, a poison develops along
with indecision, lethargy and lifelessness. Choose positive passion
as you power your life with PEP.
Inspiration
The word inspiration is born out of the word in-spire, meaning
to create within us a spiraling energy that will arouse our mind to
creative action. Inspiration ensures that we are always in action.
One who is inspired is full of energy, courage and confidence.
Those who want to live with PEP must choose inspiration over
boredom. Boredom drains us and makes us lose all the power that
inspiration creates. A bored person can never respond with PEP, but
will surely make room for negative poisons to fester and destroy
growth. Eliminate boredom and live a life of inspiration and PEP!
Cheerfulness
Do you want to live a life full of PEP? Then, choose cheerfulness
-
PEP
53
over depression in your every thought, word and deed.
Cheerfulness eliminates gloom and worry and creates ripples of
happiness in those around us. Cheerfulness destroys the possibility
of NEP and other negative emotions. It is a strong expression of
positive power, joy and bliss. This emotion is far better than its
opposite: depression.
Depression is a killer. It is amongst the most dangerous of NEP and
is born only in the absence of cheer. One who is depressed has no
interest in living, is bored of life and is slowly, but surely, sinking
with NEP. Before depression attacks us increasingly and digs deep
into us, we must create the foundation of cheerfulness and live a life
full of PEP.
Compassion
Compassion is a positive emotion that kills indifference and apathy.
It is born with the sympathy we nurture and express toward others;
it's a sense of care and mercy. People who have compassion
understand other peoples pain and problems and empathize with
them instead of ridiculing them, and this understanding creates a
positive energy.
-
Power Your Life with PEP
54
There are others who are indifferent toward the problems that their
fellow humans face, they are unconcerned, aloof and detached. This
insensitivity creates negative poison. If you fill your life with
compassion and eliminate indifference, you will notice PEP and its
other positive emotions taking charge of your life.
Optimism
Optimism is about expecting the best possible outcome. An
optimist simply believes that all is going to turn out well. Generally,
an optimist will look at a glass that is half full as half full, whereas a
pessimist will find the same glass half empty.
Optimists do not react with negativity because they expect good
things to happen. They know that if they respond negatively, then
things will not happen the way they want them to. Both optimism
and PEP march in the same direction and work hand in hand; they
both are about believing, hoping and achieving. One cannot have
PEP without optimism, and one cannot be optimistic without PEP!
When optimism is absent, pessimism rules the mind. One is always
apprehensive and lives with doubt and hopelessness. Obviously,
this creates poisonous thoughts and leads us to a poisonous destiny.
Flip over from pessimism to optimism, now!
-
PEP
55
Appreciation
Appreciation is the recognition or the highlighting of the good in
someone or something. It is a positive emotion that creates positive
energy. It is magical, since one who receives appreciation becomes
very happy and excited. When we appreciate somebody, we create a
positive aura around us and deposit positive energy within us as
well. I believe that every day we have the choice between
appreciating or condemning someone or something. A positive
person chooses appreciation and uses it as a tool to never lose sight
of PEP.
When PEP is missing and NEP takes charge, one is always
criticizing and condemning. Criticism creates poison because it
focuses on only the negative and ignores the larger positive picture.
Such an attitude can never result in positive energy. To live a life of
positivity, learn to focus on the positive and appreciate others and
yourself instead of concentrating on the negatives and indulging in
criticism.
Enthusiasm
Enthusiasm is born from the Greek word entheos, which means
in God. People who have enthusiasm usually place their trust in
-
Power Your Life with PEP
56
God. Such people believe in the existence of the power that gave
them life. Enthusiastic people are happy, energetic and always
positive because they live with faith in God.
People who display enthusiasm can never be negative; they always
respond with a positive attitude. Enthusiasm creates a large amount
of positive energy. Once you choose to be enthusiastic and believe
in the divine power, you will joyously accept whatever happens as
the work of the Master Craftsman. Instead of being in denial and
resentful, you will positively accept whatever comes your way with
happiness and a welcoming spirit. Such an approach makes anyone
respond enthusiastically and builds PEP.
Lose enthusiasm and you will see lifelessness entering your
thoughts, feelings and actions. Instead of a positive energy, a
negative poison will rule your life. So choose to be enthusiastic
always. Live with faith, hope and belief in God!
Cumulatively, all the positive emotions discussed in the preceding
text create Positive energy Power or PEP. Let us observe the
working of these positive emotions and attributes and use them to
create PEP in our life.
-
PEP
57
By choosing these positive emotions, which then lead to positive
energies, we will be eliminating the negative opposites that maybe
constricting our life. For example, choosing compassion will
eliminate indifference from our life and the many other negatives it
would have produced as its by-products in the course of time.
Similarly, choosing faith will remove doubt and lead to hope,
enthusiasm and love.
Let's recall what all these positive emotions do cumulatively.
Positive emotions create an environment of positive energy. This
positive energy or happy aura we develop, in turn, makes us feel and
think positive. In such a positive environment, it is unlikely that we
will react negatively to people and situations. Therefore, Positive
Energy Power ensures that we continue to plant positive thoughts
and habits through constant positive attitudes and emotions. When
we start living with PEP and eliminate all the negative poisons, we
start the process of being ever positive and convert all our negative
habits into positive ones. All our responses steadily become
positive; so also our thoughts, feelings and actions. PEP gives birth

Chapter 6
Negative Energy Poison
NEP:
-
What is NEP?
NEP is an acronym for Negative Energy Poison. Just as
positive energy creates power, negative energy creates poison.
How does negative energy create NEP? It paralyzes thought; it
creates hesitation, fear, worry, anger, hate, jealousy, greed, sorrow,
pessimism and doubt amongst other things. All these lead one to
respond negatively. They create an environment of negativity
giving rise to negative thoughts, feelings and actions. NEP or
negative energy poison can never result in any positive action.
We don't realize it, but at times, when we don't fill our life with PEP,
poisonous negative energies enter our life without our knowledge
and lead us to failure and disaster. These negative energies build
negative habits, brick by brick. They capture the mind and take
charge of the thought factory. Cumulatively, they become so
poisonous that they can destroy life. Hence, I call them NEP
Negative Energy Poison.
Generally, negative energy is far more powerful than positive
energy. Negative energy can be lethal because it produces
chemicals and hormones in the body that create depression and
sorrow. People who live with NEP will generally be sad, dejected
and hopeless. It is difficult for them to choose a positive attitude
Power Your Life with PEP
60
-
because they are surrounded by negative energy, which paralyzes
them.
Slowly but surely, NEP leads people to a life full of sickness and
disease. The sunshine of positive living escapes these people
because negative energy has enslaved them. They seem to be
injected and drugged with the influence of negative emotions.
By now, we have understood that when such negative emotions are
present, it is impossible to think positively. This negativity will be
followed by negative thoughts, feelings and actions. Those who
live with NEP cannot escape from a negative destiny. The poison of
negativity is so strong and powerful that its influence and effect
lasts for a long time and becomes difficult to overcome. What is
needed is a strong antidote of positivity to slowly convert the
negative energy into a positive one. It is definitely possible to
convert it; however, it is not an easy journey. It can only happen
when every negative situation is confronted with PEP and changed
from the negative to the positive.
Some of the negative energies that create NEP are revenge,
jealously, ego, greed, anger, worry, cruelty, hostility, agitation,
disappointment, agony, frustration and guilt. Let us understand the
NEP
61
-
negative energies that create poison in our life and also how they
lead us to disaster.
Revenge
Revenge is an action taken in response to an injury received or
perceived as unfairness. It is a negative reaction and attitude that
makes a wrongdoing justifiable. Unfortunately, revenge can never
deliver peace, because it is a negative poison. Only forgiveness can
undo the wrong done to us. When we choose revenge, we fail to
realize its nature and instead choose to house a poison within us that
constantly emits toxic fumes. Instead of getting even with the one
who has wronged us, revenge is sure to suffocate us and steal our
joy and happiness. It is a negative poison and can never create a
positive power, no matter what. Although one will feel an
immediate sense of achievement, after executing this negative
emotion, one experiences a sense of regret. Due to the poison that
revenge carries, one will wonder why one ever chose to take
revenge in the first place.
Revenge is NEP. It will lead us to negative thoughts, feelings and
actions. The only way to flip over to positivity is to replace revenge
with forgiveness. Then this NEP would be transformed to PEP.
Power Your Life with PEP
62
-
Jealousy
Jealousy is another negative emotion, which emerges in response to
others and their possessions. When one feels a lack of something
and wants what others have or when one painfully desires others'
advantages, one becomes jealous. Jealous individuals focus more
on what others have rather than on what they themselves possess
and get upset. For a jealous person, the grass is always greener on
the other side. Due to jealousy, people react with negativity. They
may have enough to be happy, but instead of enjoying what they
possess, they lose their happiness because they are more concerned
about what others have. Jealousy, therefore, robs away one's joy and
happiness.
Why choose to become unhappy by craving for others' possessions?
Why not rather choose to count one's own blessings and vibrate
positive energy. The resentment caused by jealousy or envy for
others' good fortune leaves behind the poisonous influence of
negativity in one's life.
Jealousy is NEP and can never create positive energy. To flip over
from this NEP to PEP, one must focus on contentment and
fulfillment. These emotions will defuse jealousy and lead us to
think positively.
NEP
63
-
Ego
Ego is one of the strongest negative emotions. It is born from the
nominative Latin word I that translates to I, myself. It is an
inflated feeling of pride in oneself and a feeling of superiority over
others. Egoistic people feel high and mighty and look down upon
others with disdain; they don't respect others. Whenever they react
to something, they do so by only keeping themselves in mind. It is
only I, me, and myself for such individuals.
Ego is a negative emotion that kills the positive emotion of humility
that is needed to live a positive life. Humble people are able to
attract cooperation and get things done. To succeed and live a life of
joy and bliss, we must learn to give up ego and choose humility.
Greed
Greed is an excessive desire to acquire and possess more than what
one needs. Greedy people are never satisfied; they continue to
acquire and hoard only to show off to others rather than enjoying the
acquisitions themselves. This selfish and negative emotion makes
one blind to the reality of life, thus making one react negatively.
Though greedy people have enough, they behave as if they have
very little, and their actions and reactions clearly reflect their
negativity. Wanting more and more is a negative poison. It
Power Your Life with PEP
64
-
consumes one's thoughts, feelings and actions thus displaying
negativity all the time. Greedy people forget their need and focus on
greed.
Instead of greed, if the PEP of contentment was chosen, one would
attract far more positive energy, love and affection. Nobody likes to
be with a greedy person. Thus, we must learn to flip over and be
content by attracting PEP into our life.
Anger
Anger is a strong negative emotion that emerges out of displeasure,
frustration and helplessness. When something doesn't happen as
per one's expectations or when one has no control over important
matters, then one becomes angry with somebody or something.
Anger creates poison within; it raises one's blood pressure and
emits venomous thoughts, words and deeds. The strong feeling of
anger creates an environment of hostility.
When one is angry, it is natural for one to react negatively. Anger
takes away the power to think and reason from an individual. An
angry person is highly emotional, volatile and mostly unpredictable
at times. Being highly volatile and reactive, the only way an angry
person can react is by being negative, causing pain to oneself and
others too. Thus, anger is considered to be the most dangerous of all
the terrors lurking inside one's being.
NEP
65
-
It is sure to burn one's heart and soul far more than it could ever hurt
the one who is being targeted. One can choose to continue the
negative influence of anger by either suppressing it, or expressing it
or converting it into a positive power through forgiveness. Angry
people are people who are extremely impatient as well.
To eliminate anger, choose calmness, the PEP that can overcome
the NEP, anger. Calmness, in turn, will attract many other positive
emotions that create Positive Energy Power.
Worry
Worry is the most commonly found negative emotion. Most people
worry. Worry consists of an uneasy feeling; it is a troubled concern
or fear that strangles and chokes a person from the inside. It creates
anxiety and destroys the ability to think. Hence, worry causes
unhappiness.
A worried person is like a rocking chair going up and down but
getting nowhere. The thoughts of people who worry never progress.
They worry about what might happen in the future rather than
enjoying what is in the present. Worry can never have a positive
consequence, as it is a pure unadulterated poison that can only kill.
Instead of choosing worry, which is a negative poison, why not
invite tranquility that can create positive power. Tranquility is an

emotion that can give extreme calmness, and with it the mind can
truly think and introspect.
Cruelty
Cruelty is the lack of kindness, compassion and mercy. It leads to
behavior that is brutal in manner, while inflicting pain and suffering
upon others. This negative poison starts with a lack of
understanding that turns into indifference and finally peaks with
cruelty. The poison of cruelty makes one's thought and actions
barbaric.
One who is cruel does not realize how negative their actions are. At
first, the cruel thought lead to cruel actions, until slowly they
become a habit. One emits the poison of cruelty without even
realizing it.
It is better to choose the positive emotion of kindness as kindness is
sure to give us joy and success and build PEP than allow cruelty to
destroy us.
Hostility
This negative emotion reveals symptoms of one being very
unfriendly. It almost makes one feel that others are their enemies,
and this emotion vibrates ill will. Thus, it emits poison and is most
unwelcome. Instead of hostility, if one flips over to the positive

emotion of harmony, one could live a life of joy and bliss. Harmony
welcomes positive thoughts and people, as it expresses a
willingness to work toward compatibility.
Agitation
This negative emotion creates extreme disturbance in the mind
leading to negative thoughts, feelings and actions. An agitated
person cannot react positively.
Only when agitation is replaced with serenity can positive power be
attracted. Serenity on the other hand, eliminates all stress and
turbulence in our mind, thus creating Positive Energy Power.
Disappointment
When one develops a feeling of being let down, one builds the
emotion of disappointment in one's life, not knowing that this will
lead them to NEP. A feeling of being let down along with dashed
hopes and crashed expectations results in dissatisfaction. These
generate NEP. While it is true that we often feel disappointed, we
must realize that this feeling grows into a strong negative emotion.
We must desist it, and instead of being disappointed, learn to
develop the positive emotion gratification.
Gratification will dissolve the poison that disappointment created,
generating PEP.

Agony
Agony is another strong NEP. This intense feeling of suffering,
torment and torture gives us tremendous pain.
If only we learned to develop the habit of being blissful, this
positive emotion would transform our life, creating power and
defeating the pain that agony brings.
Frustration
Frustration is the result of feeling defeated or extremely
disappointed when expectations are not met. Sure, many of our
plans in life will not materialize, but why should one be annoyed
and frustrated creating further poison that one has to deal with?
Is it not sensible rather to flip over from frustration to peace?
Choosing the positive emotion of peace dissolves frustration. It is a
choice that we must make to choose to be peaceful or frustrated.
Guilt
Guilt is one of the strongest poisonous emotions. It is born out of
committing an offence or mistake and feeling extremely negative
about it. It pricks us from within, releasing negative poison.
Of what use is it to create this NEP! Nobody is perfect and if you
have made a mistake, use the positive emotion of innocence to

humbly accept your error and eliminate guilt, which is only
counter-productive. This is the only way to pass from negative
thinking to positive thinking.
All the negative emotions discussed in the preceding text create
Negative Energy Poison or NEP. Imagine living a life with all these
negative poisons! The very thought of anger, hate, jealousy, worry,
revenge, indifference and doubt creates panic in the mind. How
could one fill one's life with such negative energy? Of what good
can these emotions be? Can they lead us to any positive
consequence?
While positive energy has power, negative energy is poisonous.
Negative energy creates a toxic environment in our mind and body.
The body becomes listless and lifeless and instead of being
inspired, we become depressed.
We have all experienced what it feels like to be criticized unjustly,
to be condemned and treated with cruelty. How can this poison
motivate us to live happily? NEP is negative and cannot lead to
anything positive. When the mind is thinking of revenge, it is
consumed, controlled and constricted, unable to do anything else
but produce strong negative fumes that will make us feel negative
and act negatively. Many of us have experienced pessimism and

-
hopelessness and know how these can shroud a visible opportunity
in a cloud of uncertainty and doubt. While the positive power gives
courage to act, its negative counterpart creates hesitation and
paralyzes action.
PEP creates courage, but NEP creates fear. The former creates hope,
while the latter creates despair. People with PEP have faith in their
faith, but the ones with NEP believe in their doubts.
It doesn't take time to identify those who carry PEP in contrast with
those who carry NEP. The visible signs of joy and cheer are smiles.
They symbolize PEP. Sorrow expressed with a frown reveals NEP
instantly. Can you imagine living a life of hatred and worry without
any enthusiasm for anything? You would end up being dull, lifeless
and bored. Can this create any power to progress? Of course not!
These are sure to poison us into inaction and lethargy. NEP ensures
a negative attitude, produces negative thoughts, generates negative
feelings, creates negative actions and builds negative habits. NEP
will surely lead to a negative character and a negative life.
Does it make any sense choosing to live without trust, while being
confused and de-motivated? Will this catapult us into an orbit of
success? Rather, these negative poisons will enslave us. All the
negative energies mentioned are destructive and some can
NEP
71
-
devastate us. Surely, we have all experienced negative emotions
such as anger and its power to create a terror within, fear and its
paralysis, indifference and its freezing chillness, cynicism and its
vicious fumes and ego and its singular loneliness.
No doubt NEP can be terribly destructive! Each constituent of this
negative poison is extremely toxic and lethal. Some may destroy
instantly, while others may act as a slow poison, but cumulatively
NEP will kill whatever PEP creates. Do we still want to choose
NEP? Would anyone still prefer to fill one's life with these negative
energies? If it were a choice, would one adopt these poisons to be
the energy of their life?
Flip over from NEP to PEP
I believe one requires Willpower to turn ones life over from NEP to
PEP. These can be visualized as two sides of the same coin. We must
make a choice and flip from NEP to PEP the positive side. To
change from NEP to PEP, it is important to introspect and check
whether our mind is producing negative thoughts. If we realize that
we are producing negative thoughts, we need to use our willpower
to stop this NEP from being produced. This may need grit and
practice; but once we make it a habit to flip over from NEP to PEP,
the subconscious mind becomes trained and programmed.

Whenever a situation of NEP confronts us, our willpower should
react and respond with a positive attitude. PEP will conquer NEP if
we develop this strong willpower. It needs practice and
commitment, but it is not difficult. We must consciously choose to
be positive. If we don't, NEP will arrive, occupy our mind and
destroy us. NEP is poisonous. It can transform positive power into
negative poison destroying our joy and bliss and all the positive
emotions that we could otherwise choose to live with. Therefore,
we must become champions in flipping over from NEP to PEP!

A man who bought a new shiny car
came out to the porch to admire it.
To his astonishment, his 4-year-old
son was scratching the car with a
stone. Enraged, the man ran to his
son, screaming in anger, took the
little boys hand and hammered it as
punishment.
After the man cooled down, he took his son to the hospital.
However, the child lost his fingers due to multiple fractures.
Devastated, the man went home and kicked the car
many times. In sadness, he knelt down in front of
the car. He took a look at the scratches, the child
had written " LOVE YOU DAD.

Chapter 7
My PEP Story
-
What better way could there be to endorse PEP than sharing my
personal story of how PEP transformed just about every facet of my
life? That's why I call this chapter My PEP Story. This story
started when I was a teenager, bubbling with the positive energy
derived from reading all kinds of books on positive thinking gifted
to me mostly by my father. It built in me a storehouse of positive
energy, which I did not understand initially. But I was charged and
excited with this unstoppable positive energy. Authors like James
Allen, Norman Vincent Peale, Dale Carnegie, Napoleon Hill,
Robert Schuller and J.P. Vaswani further influenced my thoughts
and feelings and put me into action.
When I started my positive journey of life, I attempted to think
positively. I used to read positive books, use positive
autosuggestions and mingle with positive people; all these
activities filled me with a lot of positive power. However, a few
years later, I discovered the power of PMA or Positive Mental
Attitude. I realized that I could only think positive if I had a positive
attitude, but I did not know how I could develop a positive attitude.
Yes, several positive thinkers suggested many ways, but none

explained to me how one could definitely and incessantly think
positive. It is only now, two decades later, that I discovered PEP and
I realize, in hindsight, how my story had PEP in it all the way. When
I started, I was positive as if by chance, but today, I am positive by
choice.
The positive emotions of faith, hope and courage made me start an
advertising agency at the age of 16, and by the age of 18 I had
enough earnings to buy my own car. My friends found it weird
because they were still engrossed in activities like studying, playing
and enjoying life. My positive energy gave me enormous amounts
of focus and direction. It gave me the confidence to start my success
journey before others could even think about it or plan for it.
Normally, a youngster would be paralyzed with fear, but I found
myself confident and full of faith. Instead of being uncertain, I was
self-assured, patient and passionate, only due to my optimism.
Instead of questioning myself, Can I do it? I would expectantly
tell myself, Yes, I can do it! And this made things happen. The
positive energy in me created positive thoughts through a positive
attitude, which then eliminated all negative options and
possibilities. I was so positive that I would declare, Nothing is

impossible. I have removed the word impossible from my
vocabulary!
My success as a teenager was only the beginning of my PEP story.
From then onwards, it was one success after another. When I turned
20, I collaborated with my father to launch the retail brand Kids
Kemp. At all stages of my early years, my father was more than
just a parent. He was a good friend and a guiding light, who helped
build my positive energy and emotions that supported me
positively. There arose a time that called for us to let go off a brand
