D-2Classified by U.L. for use inspecific combinations withGrouse-Hinds Arktite.
DApplications• Designed to supply power to portableor fixed electrical equipment such asmotor generator units, welders, pumps, compressors and similar apparatus.• Ideal for use on shipping docks, ports, and other "ship to shore" applications.• Suitable for use in locations where aweatherproof enclosure is required.• Rough usage construction.Features• Available in 30-, 60-, 100-, 200-, and400-ampere units.• Available in two grounding styles: Style1, shell grounding only; and Style 2, shelland extra pole grounding.O Grounding strap in Style 2 Recep-tacle from extra pole to receptaclehousing.© Screw locks receptacle housing andinterior into an assembly— also permitseasy field conversion to reverse serv-ice.© Receptacle interior retaining ring.O Raintight mounting box gasket.© Grounding detent springs in Style 1and Style 2.O Longer ground terminal in Style 2 re-ceptacle "makes first, breaks last."© Floating-type plug terminal self-alignsto receptacle contacts.© Screw locks plug housing and inte-rior into an assembly; also permits easyfield conversion to reverse service.(30,60,100 A)© Grounding strap in Style 2 Plug fromextra pole to plug housing.© Cable grip assembly.O Arc snuffing chamber.© Plug with clamping ring has neo-prene gasket. Ring threads onto screwcap receptacle to provide raintight as-sembly when properly tightened. Avail-able in 30-, 60- and 100-ampere units.• Neoprene bushing compressed bycable collar prevents entrance of water.Bushing is highly resistant to hydro-carbon deterioration and is self-extin-guishing.• Locking screw and slot prevents cablecollar from "backing off."• Brass contacts exert constant pres-sure along entire contact surface andprovide electrical continuity.• 30-, 60- and 100-ampere contactshave beryllium springs; 200-ampere

contacts are split-type; 400-amperecontacts have four spring-loadedborosilicate bearings.• Choice of receptacle types: weather-proof spring door and raintight screw cap( 3 0 - , 60 - and 1 0 0 - a m p e r e ) .Weatherproof spring door and raintightclamp cover (200-ampere). Raintightclamp cover (400-ampere).• Insulating blocks provide greatestdielectric and mechanical strength andlowest moisture absorption, lowest "arctracking."• Positive polarization: only plugs ofsame style, number of poles andampere rating can be used together.• "Circuit breaking": in 30- through200-amp units, any arcing created asline and load terminals disengage issafely confined deep within terminalcavities. Plugs may be withdrawn in anemergency under full rated loadswithout separate disconnect switches(400-amp plug for disconnecting useonly—not for current rupturing).• 30-, 60- and 100-ampere Powertite®plugs also suitable for classifiedlocations when used with AppletonEBR, EBRH or DBR explosion-proofinterlocking receptacles (see CatalogSection L).Standard Materials• Plug, receptacle, connector andmounting box housings: copper-freealuminum.• Insulating blocks: fiber glass rein-forced polyester.• Contacts: brass; 30-, 60- and 100-ampere have beryllium copper springsand 400-ampere has borosilicatebearings. 200-ampere has split-typecontacts.Standard Finishes• Aluminum plug, receptacle, connec-tor and mounting box housings: epoxypowder coat.• Insulating blocks and contacts: nat-ural finish.Options• Special Polarization: Add suffix— P4to catalog number of receptacle orconnector. Prevents plug insertion ina receptacle or connector wired for adifferent voltage.
Pin and Sleeve Receptacles,Plugs, and Cable Connectors:Powertite® Series
Suffix— P4: Looking at face of recep-tacle, the receptacle interior or con-nector interior is rotated 22-1/2° (rel-ative to the polarization rib) clockwiseof standard and plug is polarized tocorrespond.• Reverse Service: Add suffix— RS tocatalog number. Useful where a "hot"plug feeds a dead receptacle.30-, 60- and 100-ampere— add suf-fix— RS to catalog number (or may beeasily performed in the field with ascrewdriver only) when matching plugand receptacle are ordered.200- and 400-ampere— add suffix— RSto catalog number. Available as a fac-tory assembled item only at extra cost.Compliances• UL Standard 498, 1682.• CSA Specification C22.2 No. 42.• Appleton malleable iron productsconform to ASTM A47-77, Grade32510, which has the following prop-erties: tensile strength, 50,000 psi;yield, 32,000 psi; and elongation, 10%.• Appleton aluminum products areproduced from a high strength copper-free (4/10 of 1% max.) alloy.Product Cross Reference• For classified location plugs, recep-tacles, and connectors, see CatalogSection L.Illustrated Features:
Spring Door cover of the 60A and 10OA unitsmay be located at any position in a 360°circle by adjusting a setscrew. Set screwalso allows complete removal of cover.Spring door available on 200A units.
NOTE: Spring Door cover in open positionfor illustration only.
eooACP plugs are supplied with four bushingsto accommodate a wide variety of cablediameters. 30 Amp plug clamp used in firstposition with smallest I.D. bushing providespositive grip on cables as small as .390",such as are used in oil rig installations.
2nd Position
ThreadedSpringDoorhousing
30A, 60A and 100A Spring Door and ScrewCap receptacles are threaded to acceptclamping ring ACP plug. The ring threadsonto the receptacle to form a raintightassembly with plug in use—and also toprevent plug fallout. When the plug iswithdrawn, the gasketed Spring Door covercloses tightly against receptacle openingautomatically, providing weatherproofprotection. Spring Door has stainless steelspring and shaft.
Reversible cable clamp (just loosen screwsand flip over) permits wide cable range. Each position accommodates one of twobushings. Convenient in installations havingdifferent cable sizes.

PLUG—Equipment grounding conduc-tor is wired directly to a solderless lugwhich is connected to the plug housingwith a pressure connector. All terminalsare "current carrying."RECEPTACLE—Two detent springclips engage the grounded plug hous-ing on plug insertion—grounded plugshell makes contact with receptacleground spring before line and loadpoles are engaged. Grounding path ismaintained until after current-carryingcontacts disengage. All terminals are"current carrying."
PLUG—Equipment grounding conduc-tor is not only connected to the solder-less lug in the plug housing, but alsoto an extra grounding pole. Groundingpole has copper alloy grounding jumperstrap that connects to plug housing.
RECEPTACLE—Two detent springclips engage grounded plug housing onplug insertion. Jumper from extragrounding pole is electrically connectedto a screw on receptacle housing.Longer grounding pole "makes first andbreaks last."

Reverse ServiceUseful Where Energized Plug Feeds Dead Receptacle
Standard ServiceEnergized receptacle has recessedmale contacts to eliminate danger ofaccidental touching. Plug has femalecontacts that are energized only uponinsertion in receptacle.

Reverse ServiceReceptacle houses a dead plug in-terior. Plug houses an energized re-ceptacle interior, which has recessedmale contacts to eliminate danger ofaccidental touching.

Special PolarizationStandard Powertite® receptacles, plugsand connectors have positive polari-zation, which ensures that only plugsof the same style, number and ampererating can be used together. In in-stallations where there are different linevoltages, the SPECIAL POLARIZA-TION option is desirable. This allowsonly plugs and receptacles wired forthe same line voltage to be mated to-gether. The receptacle or connectorinterior is positioned 22-1/2°, relativeto the polarization rivet, to the right (asspecified) of standard, and plug is po-larized to correspond. This makes itimpossible to mate plugs and recep-tacles of dissimilar voltages.
