This month Pilgrim will be hosting two Open Houses. The first onewill be Thursday evening, October 17th from 4:45 to 6:30 p.m. andthe second one the following morning, Friday, October 18th from8:00 - 10:00 a.m.
If you know anyone that is looking for a GREAT school, please sendthem our way! We will have information available and personalguided tours by our Student Ambassadors.
We encourage our current families to come as well. This is a greatopportunity to meet with the teachers your child will have next yearand learn about what Pilgrim has to offer.

Chapel ServiceWednesday, October 2nd, 2013
Chapel service for Early Childhood, Toddlers - Kindergarten,
will be held in the gym. Chapel will be led by Ms. Bertrand1st-8th Grade Chapel will be held in the church.

Parents are welcome to attend!October Chapel Project: - Help us put shoes on the feet of homeless childrenand families ! Money donated through chapel offerings will be given to Star of HopeMission of Houston , to buy shoes for the homeless.
Star of Hope is a Christ-centered community dedicatedto meeting the needs of homeless men, women andtheir children. Positive life changes are encouragedthrough structured programs which focus on spiritualgrowth, education, employment, life management andrecovery from substance abuse.
Hearing, Vision & Diabetes Screening
We will have Hearing, Vision and Diabetes Screening next Monday, October 7th, forthose who have signed up and paid to be screened. If your child is in one of the agegroups listed below, you will need to have them screened at Pilgrim by Pine Woods Screening Services, LLC or by your family doctor. If you choose to have your childscreened by their doctor, we must have proof of the screening and the results from yourdoctors office. This is required by the State of Texas. It is not too late to sign up!
Hearing and Vision Screening is required by Texas State Law for: All children who were 4 years old as of September 1st, 2013 All kindergartners, first, third, fifth and seventh graders All first time entrants from another Texas school who are not in the above categories unless he/she can bringwritten documentation from the other school
All first time entrants (4 years & up) from an out-of-state school
Non-invasive Diabetes Testing for Type 2 Diabetes is required by Texas Bills 2989 & 2721 for: All children in first, third, fifth & seventh grades.
Scoliosis Screening is required by Texas State Law for: All children in sixth grade.

Want to "Go Green?"Have you been wondering, Who is that guy at the front gate on Fridays? Hes Pilgrim Lutheran Church member, Charles Percy. Charles salvagesvaluable metals from broken electronics and appliances. He accepts almostanything with metal in it, like TVs, VCRs, DVD players, fax machines,computers, monitors, microwaves, small kitchen appliances, anything witha power supply, power tools, old car batteries, window AC units, aluminumcans, you name it!
Items may be dropped off at the parking lot gate on Fridays before and after school, or yourmay contact Charles if you have a large item that needs to be picked up.

Not only does Charles help out by giving you and place to take your junk but he also recycles
all of the metal from the items brought in, and he donates ALL of the proceeds back to PilgrimLutheran School.

Parent/Teacher ConsultationsOctober 24th and 25th
On Thursday, October 24th, and Friday, October 25th, PS - 8thgrade parents will have an opportunity to meet with their childsteachers. This is the time to discuss how your child is doing thisyear and ask any questions you may have for the teachers.
Early childhood will have a normal schedule these two days butK-8th grade will have early dismissal at 11:30 a.m. both days toallow the teachers time to meet with all of the families. Childcarefor K-8th will be available for those who normally utilize extendedcare. If you do not normally use extended care but will need carefor the days, the drop-in rate is $8/hour. Please sign up with the
school office if you do not normally use extended care to ensure we have space.
K-8th grade parents will sign up for times to meet with teachers through Sign Up Genius . A link will be provid-
ed for you in the next week to sign up. PS and PK parents will sign up directly with your childs teacher. For questions regarding the consultations, please contact Amy Benitez at [email protected] or ext. 103.
