PPES Works capabilities have been showcased in recentwork which has involved much specialised technical civil,mechanical and electrical engineering, such as in theconstruction o the New Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN)

Sarawak or State Legislative Assembly building, BorneoConvention Centre Kuching and at the Islamic InormationCentre in Kuching.

PPES Works together with its joint-venture partner constructed the New DUN Sarawakbuilding located on the banks o Sungai Sarawak in Kuching. The RM296.5 millionDesign & Build contract was awarded by the State Government o Sarawak. As parto an overall masterplan covering a 172-acre development, the New DUN Sarawakbuilding comprises a 9-level building surrounded by special cluster columns resemblingtrees o the rainorest, a glass curtain wall covering the entire Tower Block, a ribbedatrium ceiling and a massive Payung Negara roo.

PPES Works constructed the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK)or the Sarawak State Government (Contract value: RM195 million).Located on The Kuching Isthmus, the States rst major convention andexhibition centre showcases its unique theme inspired by Sarawaks lushrainorests as eatured in a giant green ririg lea rootop, landscapingand water recycling eatures. With BCCKs total foor area o 36,500 sqm, its largest unction hall will be able to accommodate up to 5,000delegates or a 200-table banquet or a 200-exhibition booth venue. Anadditional 14 meeting rooms make up alternative venues or unctions.

PPES Works constructed the uniquely designed andtechnically challenging new Islamic Information Centrein Kuching comprising a cluster o six inter-connectedbuildings eaturing ethnic design elements rom the manydierent communities o Sarawak. The Project includedthe incorporation o Iban moti carvings on the buildingacade, a Bidayuh Barok, tall Melanau main columns inthe auditorium, Malay house roos gable ends, Chineseroong, and Orang Ulu motis on columns.

Developing Transportation Corridors & BridgingCommunities

Sarawaks unique topography o vast undeveloped landand an extensive network o river tributaries pose a naturalchallenge or inrastructure development projects especiallyroad networks. In many instances, bridges, causeways anderry ramps have been built to complement the road system.PPES Works eorts in road construction have linked previouslyinaccessible rural areas to urban communities and opened

up vast areas or economic growth in Sarawak.

The Tanjung KidurongSuaiBakam (TKSB)coastal road rom Bintulu in centralSarawak up to Miri in north Sarawak wasthe single largest Federal Governmentroad project ever awarded in Sarawak atthat time (2002). Valued at RM581 million,the TKSB coastal road today providesa shorter traveling time and distanceby 48 km. Construction o the 178 kmroad included 3 major bridges, 22 minorbridges, over 300 pipe culverts and 68 boxculverts.

The TubauBakun access road, valued atRM 219 million, serves as the main accessroad to the Bakun Dam. One o the manychallenges o the project was havingto cut through hilly areas the deepestroad cut in Sarawak was made at BukitMenjawa comprising 18 steps o morethan 100 m height.

Airports & Sea ports

The construction o airports and sea ports plays a vital role inpromoting overall growth and development. This is particularlycrucial or interior areas without any existing road network.With the upgrading o Mulu Airport by PPES Works, it is nowable to accommodate larger aircrat bringing in more touriststo the world amous Mulu National Park. The Tanjung ManisAirport (completed in 2001) and the upgrading o MukahAirport (completed in 2005) provides an important air link

to the Tanjung Manis Timber Processing Zone which is a keygrowth area o the Sarawak Corridor o Renewable Energy(SCORE). The 950 m berth acility at Bintulu Port (completedin 2000) has considerably expanded the Ports capacity orvessel-handling.

Water works

PPES Works expertise includes water-related works such asthe construction o water treatment plants, pipe-laying works,tunnel construction and dams.

PPES Works won theprestigious MalaysianConstruction IndustryExcellence Award 2003(Medium-scale project)or its work in upgradingthe Mulu Airport besidethe United Nationsdesignated WorldHeritage Area MuluNational Park.

PPES Works built the Gerugu Dam as parto the larger Sarikei Regional Water Supplyproject which also included construction oa 21.45 km main pipe along the Sarikei - Sibu

trunk road, distribution mains, three servicereservoirs, and a booster pumping station.

The extension o Swinburne Universitys

campus in Kuching included newclassroom blocks, conerence and multi-purpose halls, sports acilities, studenthostels and a multi-storey car park. PPESWorks was proud to have been ableto keep the Universitys acilities ullyoperational during construction o thecampus extension, despite physical andsaety constraints within a very congestedconstruction site.

The Company has a long history o undertaking buildingworks such as educational institutions (Swinburne University[Sarawak Campus] Extension, UNIMAS Campus, Tunku PutraSchool and hospitals in Dalat and Sarikei). Also included inits expertise is the construction o commercial premises suchas actory plants (CMS Cement Bintulu plant, CMS Steelplant).

PPES Works is proud to have been tasked to constructseveral Government hospitals as part o its eort to provideadequate acilities or the Rakyat throughout the large state

o Sarawak.

With the completion o the Dalat Hospital in 2003, apopulation o 10,000 people in the surrounding areas nowhave access to general health care without having to travelar to the nearest large town in Mukah. Similarly, PPES Works,together with its joint-venture partner, was also involved inthe construction o the 268-bed Sarikei Hospital, which hasenabled more rural communities to seek proper medicalcare nearer to their villages.

PPES Works undertook civil works andconstruction o inrastructure and residentialbuildings o the Sarikei Hospital development.

Set on a 22-acre site, the new Tunku Putra Schoolcampus in Petra Jaya, Kuching, compromisesnumerous single-storey buildings with classroomsand specialist labs, as well as a multi-purposehall and administration block.

Following a competitive bidding exercise, a JV between PPES Works and ChiyodaMalaysia was awarded the RM120 million contract by ASSAR Chemicals to developPhase 3 and 4 o the Independent Oil Terminal (IOT) project adjacent to SenariPort in Kuching. The project included engineering, procurement, constructionand commissioning o the bulk depot acilities. PPES Works also undertook sitepreparation works on the 16.2 hectare site which involved land reclamation.

PPES Works was tasked to undertake thecivil works or both the Plant and Non-Plant zones o the 2 X 135 MW MukahCoal-Fired Power Station (in Sarawak). Asthe turnkey contractor or the Non-PlantZone, PPES Works scope o works includedinrastructure works, site-clearing, earthworks, construction o the administrationzone, stores, workshop, sta housing andsupporting amenities. In the Plant Zone,PPES Works was responsible or civil worksat the Main Power block, fue gas system,coal-handling system, other inrastructureand water-related systems including the ashpond and cooling ponds.

In 2003, PPES Works was awarded a 15-year contract by the FederalGovernment o Malaysia to maintain over 600 km o roads in Sarawak,specically rom Sematan to Sarikei in the southern hal o the State.Through a proessional maintenance management system, theCompany conducts ecient and eective routine and periodicinstructed works in its eort to be a true partner to the Government by

ensuring better quality and saer roads.
