HISTORY Creating a game reserve

Established a reserve area known as Hailey National Park in 1936.

The preserve was renamed in 1954–55 as Ramganga National Park.

Again renamed in 1955–56 as Corbett National Park.

GEOGROPHY located between 29°25' to

29°39'N latitude and 78°44' to 79°07'E longitude.

Cover the Patli Dun valley formed by the Ramganga river.

present area of the Reserve is 1,318.54 square kilometres

Including 520 square kilometres of core area and 797.72 square kilometres of buffer area.

The core area forms the Jim Corbett National Park while the buffer contains reserve forests (496.54 square kilometres as well as the Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary (301.18 square kilometres .

The reserve, located partly along a valley between the Lesser Himalaya in the north and the Shivaliks in the south.

1. Dhikala: The place is a well known tourist destination in Jim Corbett National Park.

Situated at the border of the extensive Patli Dun valley from where the Ramganga flows in numerous channels,

it offers outstanding view of the valley, with the Kanda.  

2. Garjia Temple: Garjia Temple is situated 14 kms away from Ramnagar, on the way to Ranikhet.

There is a huge rock in the middle of river Kosi, which has been named Garjia Devi after the deity.

Thousands of devotees from across the globe come to visit the temple.

3. Corbett Water Falls: Corbett Water Falls are

situated 25 kms away from Ramnagar.

The place is popular among tourists for not only the water fall but also for the tweeting of birds in the background. 4. Bijrani:

Bijrani was established by the then ruling British govt. as a shooting block.

The place was much more popular during the British period for offering quality hunting games.

5. Jhirna: Jhirna is a rest house, which is

situated inside the southern boundary of the Jim Corbett National park.

The place is known as best habitat for the Royal Bengal Tiger. Additionally, other animals like Leopard, Deer, Sloth Bear and Wild Pig with various species of birds can also be seen here. 6. Corbett Wildlife Museum:

At Corbett Wildlife Museum, you will find the life history of Mr. Jim Corbett, his belongings and some skeleton of various species of animals and birds.

The Museum is established on the property bought by Jim Corbett in 1915.

learn the importance of wildlife while roaming around the vast and majestic vicinity of the Corbett Reserve.

the museum beholds many attractive belongings of Jim Corbett including personal articles, paintings, sketches, manuscripts and last hunt of its own.

The whole museum has glorifying attractions that catch attentions of all the tourists.

It is the place where the animal lovers can also make some good purchase of handmade rural items and handicraft items that reflect the images of tiger and other wild animals.

The best time to visit this museum is during the months of January and March.

The timings for visiting this museum is between 7.00 A.M. to 6 P.M.

FLORA A total of 488 different species of plants have been recorded

in the park. Tree density inside the reserve is higher in the areas of Sal

forests and lowest in the Anogeissus-Acacia catechu forests. Total tree basal cover is greater in Sal dominated areas of

woody vegetation. Healthy regeneration in sapling and seedling layers is

occurring in the Mallotus philippensis, Jamun and Diospyros tomentosa communities, but in the Sal forests the regeneration of sapling and seedling is poor.

FAUNA Over 585 species of resident and migratory birds have

been categorized, including the crested serpent eagle, blossom-headed parakeet and the red junglefowl — ancestor of all domestic fowl.

33 species of reptiles, seven species of amphibians, seven species of fish and 37 species of dragonflies have also been recorded.

Bengal tigers, although plentiful, are not easily spotted due to the abundance of camouflage in the reserve

By Air:

As the national park does not have any airstrip or helipad, the tourists have to rely on Phoolbagh airport in Pantnagar. The airport is 50 kms away from the Corbett Park. From there you can get taxi and other vehicles to visit Jim Corbett National Park. At Phoolbagh, you can take flights to travel to major cities of India.

By Rail: The railway station in closer proximity to Jim Corbett National Park is Ramnagar. This is only 12 kms away from the Corbett Park. The only train plies between Delhi and Ramnagar is Ranikhet Express.

By Road:Jim Corbett National Park is around 300 kms away from Delhi. To visit the place tourists can follow the route of Delhi to Hapur-Murababad-Ramnagar. If you are going through road, then you have to take left around 7 kms ahead of Muradabad. Maximum visitors to Jim Corbett National Park prefer roadways.

CONCLUSION Love with animal & Respect the wild animals and

maintain a safe distance from them. Remember, you are in their home and they get first priority.

Do not smoke or light campfires in the forest. Accidental fires can destroy this wonderful jungle in no time.

Don’t get off your vehicle at any point in the Park except where it’s allowed. This is for your own safety and the safety of wildlife.

The Park is not a zoo; so don’t expect to see wildlife everywhere. Corbett is breathtaking even in its scenery.
