Production Commentary

Slide 1: Design ProgrammesWhen I was making my Front cover, I used the google images to get a rough idea on what games magazines looked like, I then searched Guild Wars 2, So I could get an idea on what types of pictures are out there so I got a basic idea for the front cover. After I found an image I liked, I uploaded it to Photoshop and cropped and resized it. I then on about making the actual front cover. I used a Barcode that I found on Goggle. And the rest I made e.g. The text and the information.

When it came to making the double page spread, I started off writing my 2 story’s leaving gaps that I would be entering images. Then, after I had all my text, I looked on google for the relevant things to fill in the gaps I had left. This would make my double page spread more appealing.

Slide 2: FORMATSMy format was a magazine, The genera of magazine I did was games. This is because games are of interest to me and I thought it would be an interesting thing to do. I made a double page spread and a front cover of this supposed magazine.

There's are a few examples I looked at to give me ideas on my front cover:

Slide 3: Conventions & Visual Language

The genre conventions I have used would be games. I used this for both my double page spread and my front cover.

On my front cover the use of the Gutenberg Principle was used becauseAs you can see the name of the magazine is at the top of the page, thisWould be the first place you look when looking at a magazine, the titleIs across the whole of the top, making you see it again when youLook at the strong fellow area. On the axis of orientation you can see thatI’ve left it quite empty so that you can soak in the image on the front coverAlso on the bottom of the front cover there is text on both sides, this is Done so it doesn’t clog up the mid or top of the magazine, giving you a lotOf time to check the image put. Also along the bottom of the magazine there is a heading, this would be one Of the last places you look, making you wonder that little bit more.

The connotations of colours on my front cover is quite simple, I have used the red on the image to show danger, also this is because the revenant’s (New Character) colour is red. And the fonts I used were very basic, this was to try not to distract any attention away from the main image.

Slide 4: AudienceThe chosen target audience for my magazine are:Between the ages of 13-19.The chosen gender is male but could be for female’sThe social status for my chosen audience would be middle to lower class.I think the magazine meet the requirement for my target audience because as you can see the words on the double page spread are normal words, with nothing to fancy. And also as you can tell by the type of texts and the fonts I used that this magazine isn’t for upper class persons. Also as you can see by the colours that is for people of the ages of 13-19. Last but not least as you can see, the magazine is about games, and the average gamer is male, with obvious exceptions.
