Ref: SEA 169.PR Date: 14 August 2003 sea win key urban operation equipment support contract SEA’s Battlespace Systems Division has been awarded a three-year contract by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) in support of its Urban Operations Study Technology Demonstration Programme. The company is contracted to identify and trial a range of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) and Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) that could be used to enhance the capability of ground forces operating in the challenging urban environment. The overall objective is to identify “quick wins” for the equipment programme. Commenting on the contract, SEA’s Battlespace Systems Division, Managing Director, Paul Phillips, said: “The contract requires us to inform the MOD of equipment that could reduce or eliminate shortfalls in the capabilities of UK ground forces when operating in the urban environment. Each identified item of equipment will undergo safety, human factors, logistic support and training assessments. The contract also includes assessment through urban trial at the MOD’s training village on Salisbury Plain.” Continuing Paul, said: “This study examines what is currently an extremely topical issue with respect to worldwide events, and will be undertaken in close cooperation with the Army, Dstl, QinetiQ and other MOD partners.” SEA has engaged SVGC Ltd, as military Subject Matter Experts (SME) as a subcontractor in support of the programme.
