1. Our compassionate teacher Shakyamuni

With great compassion taking to yourself this world of dregs and strife,

You made five hundred mighty aspirations.

Like a pure white lotus you are praised; all those who hear your name will not fall back to sorrow.

Teacher loving and compassionate, I bow down in homage!

Guru, Teacher, Bhagavan, Tathagata, Arhat, completely perfect Buddha, Glorious Conqueror, Teacher of the Shakyas, to you I bow, pay homage and take refuge.

2. Glorious Vajrasattva

Primordial wisdom of means, adamantine state beyond all concepts,

Realised within the nature of the mother, transcendent knowing without object;

In everything, you show in a multitude of ways the distinct facets of your compassion.

To you, great Vajrasattva, I bow down in homage!

3. The Bhagavan Buddha of Boundless Life and Wisdom

Amitayus, first of all the leaders of the world,

Glorious one destroying every menace of untimely death,

Of all who suffer, unprotected, you are refuge,

To you the Buddha of unbounded life, I bow down in homage!

4. Amitabha, Boundless Light

Turning the Wheel of Dharma in your Buddhafield of Great Bliss,

Ever watching over all sentient beings with your compassion,

Acting to benefit beings according to the promises you made,

To you who rests in equanimity, Infinite Light, I bow down in homage!

6. The Medicine Buddha

Lord who looks on all with equal love,

Bhagavan, Tathagata, Arhat, completely perfect Buddha, Lord of Medicine, Radiant King of Lapis Lazuli, to you I bow, pay homage and take refuge.

7. The Regent Maitreya, the Loving Protector

Lord whose great and fiery love burns up the tinder wood of hate,

Whose wisdom light dispels the gloom of ignorance,

The Dharma regent, the guardian of wandering beings,

To you, residing in Tushita, I bow down in homage!

8. The noble Avalokiteshvara

Your thousand arms are like the thousand Chakravartin kings,

Your thousand eyes the thousand Buddhas of this happy age,

You who teach according to the needs of beings,

Revered Avalokita, to you I bow down in homage!

It has been said that this final syllable Hrih may legitimately be added to the mantra with last recitation..

9. The revered and noble Mañjushri

Throughout the vast, profound abyss of all that can be known,

All the Tathagatas’ power and might

11. The noble Vijaya (Palden Lhamo)

Glorious goddess, colour of the autumn moon,

Three-faced, eight-armed, serene and ravishing,

You who grant the supreme gift of life and boundless wisdom—

To you Vijaya, noble one, I bow down in homage!

12. The revered and noble Tara

Activity of all the Buddhas of the triple time,

Enlightened Lady, you on whom I’ve meditated for countless of my former lives,

Shining white, one-faced, two-armed, with seven eyes,

13. The prayer to the Guru who is the union of all the Buddhas

Guru in your eightfold emanations,

The eight great vidhyadharas,

And the eight Close Sons of Buddha,

The deities of the eight great sadhanas,

I pray to you, please grant your blessing.

Dispel all outer, inner, secret obstacles

And to our aspirations bring fulfilment;

Supreme and ordinary accomplishments, please grant to us.

14. Finally, the wrathful union of Hayagriva, Vajrapani and Garuda

Body, Speech and Mind of all the Buddhas of the ten directions,

Garuda king and Hayagriva and the Lord of Secrets,

All united, first of all the wrathful,

To you, the thought of whom destroys a host of obstacles, I bow down in homage!

For all of you who have received teachings from me and have a Dharma connection with me, it be would be best to recite all these prayers and mantras every day. Otherwise, recite whichever you wish, especially on the 8th, 15th and 30th days of the lunar month, and on the four great anniversaries of our Teacher Shakyamuni. Whenever you do so, the benefit will be immeasurable. I, the Zhadeupa Ngawang Chökyi Lodrö, an ignorant monk of Shakyamuni, entreat you with folded hands.
